Well as Walt said, Disneyland (and by extension WDW) should never be a museum. Change is inevitable, like it or not, and today's masses are less than enthralled with the 'old-fashioned' and 'worn-out' COP. I'd prefer it if it stayed, but in the end it will have to go. That's the harsh reality of things.

This has ben a rumor for a while. They recently rehabbed it, so it would be strange to close it. WHile I hate the thought of it being gone, I have to say that when it's open I've never seen very many people going in. A shame, but Walt probably would've yanked it out a long time ago and replaced it with something much better. And that's the question. What to replace it WITH?

re: COP as National Treasure

I think at this point, in the history of American Popular Culture, the COP should be considered for the National Registry. It is an important cultural and historic icon, so even if it is removed from WDW it should be preserved somewhere such as at the Smithsonian, where people can learn about its importance within a proper context. I think it would be better appreciated and I bet at the Smithsonian people would line up to see it. Just a thought.

I have to say the last few times we went to COP there were only about 10 people in the whole theater. Its a nice break to at least sit down! If they do replace it I hope its something good..........Bring back Mr. Toad. ha.ha.

Well, then advance the ride to have better animatronics and other ways to make it more entertaining to today's audiences. There's a whole lot more ways to make an attraction entertaining to guests than just flat out getting rid of it.

It's pitiful that a ride about moving on and progressing has been left stale and boring to many park guests. As sad as this is, the only ways to make CoP more interesting to the masses is to add a loop or Disney film characters. I would wish neither of these onto the Carousel, so getting rid of it may be the only merciful thing to do. :(

Although I'm a big fan of COP, the fact is that there are always too many empty seats during the show.

Regarding the choice of language used by the OP, I agree with you. It doesn't make you a prude.

Good taste o-meter running at 10.

Carousel of Progress has been a favorite of mine. I agree with all that the anamatronics in this ride is very dated, even with the improvements of the last scene. I don't think that this ride should go away. I think the concept of the rotating theater needs to stay because you don't see this in any of the other disney parks now. I think the anamatronic robots need to be replaced and a new fresh show based on the progress theme needs to be put in its place. Disney can put the latest entertainment technology in this new version, and spruce up the exterior of the venue to make it a marquee place to go. If Disney had to take one venue out of the park, it has to be the hall of presidents. That is definitely a waste of anamatronics! Boring show which brings hardly any guests.

The thing is, it's a good attraction. What it really needs is to be seriously updated. I mean the technology in the current ride has already been for the most part surpassed.

COP 2.0 will be finished at Epcot in February. It is called Spaceship Earth.

I love COP as much as the next Disneyphile but I would much rather see COP demolished and replaced than continue it its current condition. It really needs a SSE or HM style refurb and I just do not see Disney putting that kind of money into an attraction that simply does not attract your average Disney guest.
