How mad I am about the carousel of progress going away in 2009.

Hmm...

rrrright....

::fails to mention they have also dumped flying saucers, pack mules, rocket rods, people mover... so on... so forth::

You forgot to mention the Hall of Chemistry and the Hall of Aluminum Fame.

But, the Flying Saucers and quite possibly the People Mover will return.

Um... :lookaroun

Although your change reflects above the first post in the thread, it hasn't changed the thread title on "New Posts" or at the top of each thread page.

Just thought I'd point that out [I think the forum software tracks the thread based on the original title, so maybe Steve {the Boss} has to change it?]

I know. I tried all of my tricks, except for one, but that would be overkill, KWIM? The title doesn't bother ME enough to "poof" the whole thread.

Do you mean the original ( http://www.yesterland.com/saucers.html) Flying Saucers? I wanted to ride that on my first trip to DL, but I wasn't tall enough. On my next trip it was GONE. :(

Back to the original topic. CoP was one of rides that I remember from my first trip to DL and it has a special place in my heart. I missed the escalator going to the second floor to view the "City of Tomorrow" when it got moved to WDW, but that can now be seen briefly on TTA.

DMC-12

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
I did CoP a couple times about a week ago. The mouth was all messed up on the father in the 50's scene. Only the left half of his mouth was moving a lil bit. The other half looked clenched. Looks like he had a stroke... or he was just doing his impression of Lester Holt.:lookaroun

The whole theater stunk like mildew. The cat in the late 90's scene was just laying on top of a gift box... as if it were dead... no movement whatsoever. And the fathers eyes in the late 90's scene didnt move...lol. Verrrrry creepy.

If they are not going to maintain this attraction... or update it... then its really time for it to go.

I've heard the rumors about the carousel of progress going away for good and I'm not really happy. It was one of my favorite rides in walt disney world. Me and my aunt went on it Every time we were in disney world. It should Kept in tomorrowland forever! Whos with me!?

It should be updated and moved to Epcot or eliminated. (IMHO)

The COP was originally an exhibit at the 1964 World's Fair. It is not only a classic but a piece of history. IMO it should not be changed but preserved. We can enjoy it and see it not only through Walt's imagination but through his eyes.

If they must kill it, at least consider shipping it back to Corona Park in Queens, perhaps for a worlds fair museum type thing in the park there with the few remaining things left from the world's fair in 1964.

CoP is one of our favorites, a classic 'must do'.
We rode it again on our 12/9 - 12/16 visit this year.

A couple of observations:

1. Even though it's a 'must do' we rode it only once. I think many people approach CoP that way and thus the attendance is low.
It's not like Buzz LightYear where you ride again and again.

2. The last scene where the son and the grandmother are playing a video game seems out of date in terms of the video game graphics. The scene is supposed to be in the advanced future but the video game looks like it's from the '80's or '90's.

If they do decide to move CoP to make room for new rides in Tomorrow Land, then EPCOT might be a good place for it.
Just don't discontinue it.

Tks.

This rumor will continue until Disney actually decides to do something with the attraction. Unfortunately, I believe they will 86 it. I wish they would fix it, but I think if they were going to, they would have. Which is sad, b/c it has become a must do for me and my DH. (We just learned about it it 2005...had never been on it before then. Now we absolutely love it.)

That's the key! I wonder how many people visiting the World are aware of what the show really is, or even that it exists? For example, in the vacation planning guide booklet that Disney sends out, it (along with CBJ and I believe the Tiki Room) was exempted from the map of the MK. It doesn't help that it has minimal signage and is located in the quiet corner of Tomorrowland. Disney have done a pretty good job of hiding this gem of old-school WDW.

Actually I dont think it was meant to be in the advanced future as much as 1-2 years ahead or present day when it was made like that (which was the early 90's IIRC)

Saw it in '64, loved it from the start. Hopefully it will get a new 'last scene' and carry on. It is a must see at each of our visits.

Worse still, they treat it as more of a meet-and-greet for Buzz Lightyear than an actual attraction. When I was there in September, I was watching as people were simply herded to the right toward Buzz. I had to actually ask to go left to the attraction. Interestingly, once I did that, people started following. Maybe they thought they were going to meet another character, but we managed to fill almost half of the theater, which I thought was pretty good for a non-busy time of year.

That's exactly what I've said has been the problem of this attraction all along. It's always very minimally advertised. (With the exception of this time of year, when it's advertised simply b/c it's a refuge for people to go so they won't have to wait in long lines.) If people knew it existed and what it was, then yes, they might actually want to go on it.

I ignored the "raggedness" of the attraction and simply enjoyed it for what it is. A wonderful attraction that tells the story of how things have changed in the past 100 years...kinda. And if Disney actually decided to do something to update it, I"m sure it would be even more enjoyable.

But as I said, I unfortunately don't see that happening. Otherwise they would have already done it.

It's not the advanced future. It's Christmas, 1999. CoP chronicles the progress made during the 20th century, from the turn of the century to the end. The final scene was installed in 1994 and the Imagineers put in what they thought we would have five years later. Unfortunately, like most predictions of the future, they got it a bit wrong. :)
