Galveston Weather Delay
As of 8:40 a.m. Eastern on January 12, 2013
The port area in Galveston, Texas, is currently experiencing heavy fog and the channel between the terminal and the Gulf of Mexico has been closed to all inbound and outbound vessel traffic.
At this time, the Disney Magic® is offshore waiting for the fog to clear and for the port to reopen. Once the port reopens, the onboard Guests will need to complete the debarkation process before boarding can begin for today's sailing.
As a result of this unexpected weather delay, we are asking guests to postpone their arrival to the terminal building by at least four (4) hours after your selected port arrival time. Due to the nature of any weather condition, it is possible that further delays may occur. We will continue to monitor the fog conditions closely and will be sending updates as needed.
For additional details and the most up-to-date information on this delay, Guests are invited to call 1-866-325-4243.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this unexpected weather delay and look forward to welcoming you onboard later today.

Yeah, at like 10:30 Tracey called me and was talking about how there's 2 cruise ships sitting off the coast waiting for the channel to open. We live a few miles from Galveston Bay sorta by where the Houston ship channel is (Kemah, TX) and it's not really foggy here. Here's a map.

Tracey sent me a great website link with a bunch of Galveston webcams:

http://www.galveston.com/webcams/

The Harbor and Cruise cams are the ones that show the exact area of the cruise terminals. If you look at the Harbor cam, the pier you see at the bottom is where we go to watch the Magic when she comes & goes. The platform on the right is the OceanStar oil rig museum place. Cruise cam looks directly at the cruise terminal piers near the top left corner of the shot. See the big white yacht poking out mid-screen on the far left? That belongs to the guy who OWNS the Landrys properties. Yes, that would include Rainforest Cafe(s), T-Rex, Yak-n-Yeti, etc. etc. etc.

I think the Carnival Magic is due to come in today, too. That ship is similar in size to the Dream & Fantasy. When/if the Carnival comes in she will park in front of the Disney Magic. Disney docks at Terminal 2 which is the furthest from the webcam.

We just drove past the terminals, saw the Magic & Crown Princess docked. Fog out on the sea wall is super dense. We're thinking the ships won't be getting back out tonight.

I feel bad for those sailing out. I wonder how this will effect their ports! I assume Disney is doing the best they can though and i’m sure they will enjoy their cruise.

Will it be effected?

It goes like this right?:
Day 1: Galveston
Day 2: Day at Sea
Day 3: Day at Sea
Day 4: Grand Cayman
Day 5: Cozumel
Day 6: Day at Sea
Day 7: Galveston

Will it only be a one stop now?

I don't know if the ships got out or not. After dinner at Rainforest we drove back by the terminals again. At 7:30 they still had passengers arriving and the fog had really really thickened. We could see the Funnelvision as we drove past. I'm sure there's fun to be had even sitting at the dock. On the Gulf side of the island, on the sea wall, the fog was tremendously worse. You couldn't see the water line from the sea wall. Super duper thick.

I don't guess there is anything preventing them from going on with normal first day plans. Personally I'd be happy just to be on the ship. :D

I looked at the other webcams on the island. Maybe the temps have dropped enough for the fog to dissipate. The Princess is still docked. Marine Traffic shows the Magic still in port. The advisory on DCLs site said all guest should arrive no later than 9 pm. It's 11:30 now.

I don't think they are going anywhere tonight.

Looks like the ships escaped in the wee hours last night. We've had a 30 degree temperature drop overnight. The ships were gone by 5 this morning. Hubby was up just after 5 and said it was soon after he watched the Carnival Magic come in on the webcams. As big and impressive in size as the Crown Princess was, the Carnival Magic is definitely bigger. I'd love to sail on her!

If you note the itinerary, there's only 1 at-sea day coming back from Cozumel. I'll bet they can close the distance and still make both ports. Worst case is shortening the first one but I'll bet they can make it.
