Hollywood Studios Sorcerer Hat

YES.
Only problem: what will be the park's new signature landmark? Back to the water tower? Something new? Either way, I'm excited that the hat/pinshop is coming down - I like it, but just not in that place, especially because it completely blocks the Chinese Theatre.

Well, as Hollywood Studios the landmark could become the Chinese Theatre, at least on its "main street." but DHS isn't short of landmarks....

From a photography perspective, I like both. However, Grauman's fits the architecture and general feel of the area (for long and wide shots) so much better. From a fan perspective, Grauman's is definitely the better aesthetic option. Move the BAH over to the backlot area.

I honestly don't think it could be moved to a different non-Studios area of property just because it has become so entwined with the Studios. For many people, even more casual guests, it will always be an icon of the Studios. It's not something that I think could be transitioned into a location elsewhere. It's not like an AA that can be "re-skinned" for another attraction.

Anyone who is in love with the hat really needs to spend a half hour on their next trip walking down Sunset, Hollywood, Vine, and back to the GMR paying attention to the detail and cohesive theme that has been created throughout the entire area. I know a lot of us like to breeze through there en route to our next fastpass, but really stop and smell the roses, listen to the background music, and then look at the hat.

If you still feel the same way, we can agree to disagree, but the hat has been around 8 years too long.

Yeah, thats good stuff right there! I don't think anyone actually dislikes the hat, just its placement!

Ehh... I don't really like the hat, and not just because of where it's located. All of Disney's design, at its greatest, has fallen into one of two categories - immersive and detailed environments (New Orleans Square, Magic Kingdom's Frontierland, Tokyo DisneySea) or great architecture (Space Mountain, all of the original EPCOT Center). The Hat falls into a third, and rather recent category which I'm not as fond of - "giant objects". Huge, blown-up things like the hat, the Mickey wand, other oddballs from Imagineering history are neither artistically inspiring nor particularly immersive. In the end, I really think such design is just tacky and Vegas-esque.

I'll be glad when it's gone. :sohappy:

I think the hat should be gone entirely and not moved. The one thing that should be moved is the true icon, the earful tower. It should be moved to the entrance of the park, so its more recognized as the park's icon.

The hat should never have become the park's icon. It only symbolizes ONE movie, and a Disney one which makes it feel self-indulgent.

I love the hat because I like to see an icon when I walk into a park. To me a rplica of the Chinese Theater doesn't say Disney. But if it does come down I want to see a big ticket, in your face item there...like a fully armed and operational Death Star.

Why can't it be moved to DTD?

It depends on the "Disney" you want to represent. If you want to present the OCD company that produced Epcot, DAK, and Tokyo Disney Sea, the hat needs to go away. If you want to show the tacky company that crapped out direct-to-video franchises, the plastic hat in its current location is fine.

Nice work! I really like the ones with it at the front entrance and at the Animation Courtyard.
I do not think you fully understood the implication of those Animation Courtyard renderings. Placing the BAH, or The Magic Carpets of Aladdin (another fan favorite idea for the courtyard) would all but eliminate the existing courtyard due to the size.

The hat is a source of envy for both Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Sorcerer Mickey really is an odd icon of Disney "magic", because Mickey did an awful job.

Exactly. Let's put it this way. During the busier times (xmas, spring break) they take out the merch cart (aprox 5'x8') to make more room in the courtyard. No way in heck would the hat EVER be put there.

Plus, I just don't think it would physically fit. And even if it did, it would ruin the area's aesthetics even more than does now.
