Hollywood Studios Sorcerer Hat

I would absolutely love it if the Hat was taken down.

BUT, they would HAVE to update The Great Movie Ride if they do that.

They can't have the centerpiece of the park be a ride dedicated to exciting movies from yesteryear and mostly the 80s.

Seriously, time to give it a HUGE overhaul.

The classic movies are still classic that isn't going to change.

This was a whole thread a few weeks ago and I think the general sentiment was that classics are classics the ride should be left alone, but it is nice when they update the final montage to include newer titles.

I totally understand this argument.

HOWEVER, most of the scenes are from movies that were released in the 80s. The ride was originally trying to be hip by mostly including movies recently released within the past decade.

Well, that decade has come and gone and I think its time they can replace it with movies that are more hip. Don't get me wrong, singing in the rain and the classics can stay. But, still, in general, all the effects and AA's and the ride systems and many of the scenes should be fixed/replaced/changed to make it up to date.

I'm confused as to what movies you think were released in the 80s. Because the only one I can think of is Indiana Jones.

As for the movies being "hip", it's called the GREAT Movie Ride, not the Hip Movie Ride.

What if hip movies are great? :lookaroun:lol:

Seriously, replace Tarzan with Lion King and Alien with Star Wars original trilogy scene and I'm a happy camper.

I'd say no to the Lion King. Disney movies are represented enough throughout the parks, there's no need for them to be in the GMR. And Alien is a terrific movie, no need to get rid of it. Star Wars would be nice, but there's really o need to get rid of Alien.

Raiders and Aliens were the only two movies from the 80s. Actually, Alien which is the film being depicted came out in 1979. So, fail on that argument.

Veto Lion King. Get your Lion King fix somewhere else. I can handle replacing Tarzan, but not with an animated feature.

Veto replacing Alien. It's one of the coolest parts of the ride.

You could put Star Wars in if you had extra room. But you don't. And SW + Alien shifts the balance towards too much sci-fi (and more 70s/80s stuff). Also Raiders + Star Wars = too much George Lucas. Plus, you've got Star Tours 2 coming in just down the way. I'm all for more Star Wars, but not in GMR.

DtD is a great idea for a possible relocation!!?

I guess however it is now the Parks Icon, so either something new will have to be built/used, or the Hat will have to move somewhere it can still be seen!!!

Who knows when DHS is concerned, thats one park with no fixed ID, just about anything goes and can almost make sense to some extent!!!
I happen to love the hat, but not the current location. I think it would look great somewhere outside the entrance of DHS.

Even though it's looked at as one of the best animated movies by many and it's a movie the next generation of parents were raised on?

I mean, if Alien is a great movie then Lion King must be beyond classic by now.

Both are beyond classics. But there's plenty of Lion King in the parks already.

This post gets full backing from me.

Don't cave into wishes for Lion King or Star Wars (already given prominent place in ride ending) Disney. Even if you put them in, people will want more elsewhere.

^Love it! The hat really makes Hollywood Blvd. look smaller than it actually is...
