HKDL gets new castle, frozen land and marvel land.

I was at HKD around 9 years ago, and it really soured my love for Disney. The castle was pitiful, Tomorrow Land was so tiny that it belonged to a local carnival, etc - it was all just very underwhelming.

We were literally done in a few hours and then left.

I look forward to seeing the changes.
I was there last year, and as I’ve said elsewhere it was a revelation. We’d be back this year if we weren’t already booked elsewhere. But I can see your view from 9 years back.

Current wait times on the app seem more like what as a western tourist I’d expect, but we went last year the week after golden week. Times not on the weekend were a lot like your 2016 times. The Saturday was busy but not Orlando busy, and hardly anyone used paid fastpass. It was great.

If it’s still on offer I’d say look at the Explorers semi buffet with Momentous viewing and also the Jack Skellingtons Nightmare Before Dinner meal (both book in advance). Happy to answer any questions as a tourist!
Thanks Marni, appreciate it. Definitely looking forward to the semi buffet at the Explorers, however you can only book two weeks in advance so will try again after summer.

From the 2023 Annual Report,

"Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is undergoing a multi-year expansion estimated to cost HK $10.9 billion ($1.4 billion). The Company and HKSAR have agreed to fund the expansion on an equal basis through equity contributions, which totaled$57 million and $148 million in fiscal 2023 and 2022, respectively. To date, the Company and HKSAR have funded a total of$773 million."

That’s pretty well known info. The agreement that was signed by both parties still has about 500 million USD unused that was designed for quinjet

Everything else in the original expansion is now finished. We still have no idea what’s happening with quinjet but while it’s either not being built or confirmed cancelled the resort is still technically undergoing an expansion even if they aren’t doing anything right now

Apparently a rumour from a leaker (I’m not very up to date with how reliable the Disney leakers are) has said that there is still a E/mega E/F ticket coming to Tomorrowland and the updated plans for it will be announced this year

Though it also seems like Shanghai is getting a midway mania and a marvel land, if the same leaker is to be believe

Seems to favour Shanghai (though if marvel land is one ride it will end the parks with the same ride count) considering the e ticket for Hong Kong is years delayed and Shanghai is a total new land, but maybe HK while showing profit still isn’t showing enough to go beyond the original expansion

I always thought midway mania would work real well in HKDL.
There's really no good reason they don't have one, given that they have a whole Toy Story Playland and all.

It would also be (theoretically) a cheap, easy expansion given all that has happened with their Avengers E-Ticket.

Some part of me want HKDL to fill up the gap between Toy Story Land and World of Frozen with Toy Story Mania and Alien Swirling Saucers (two indoor attractions coz TSL is basically completely outdoor right now but it rains often here)
But at the same time I'd wonder if the plot can be used for another small yet impressively immersive themed land rather than just clones

Like I said, the similarity. Especially given how… wanting HKDL is for more attractions. I’d prefer the money be spent on something totally different.

DCA is hardly a model of how to do a park right.
I'm just saying that those two attractions are far more similar than TSM is to Antman in my view.

I definitely would be happy with something better, but they could do worse than putting a Toy Story attraction in the Toy Story Land.

Potential clash with Ant Man ? Given the similarity I’d prefer a good Peter Pans flight
I would love to see PPF at this park, do you think Disney would actually build an old school fantasyland attraction so late after the park has been open. I feel like they would go for a newer IP.
Also, why does it seem like current Disney has an aversion to building smaller scale fantasyland style C-Ticket dark rides... so many of their parks could benefit from these filler attractions, including HKDL

I believe there were rumors that SDL was also planning on adding a Midway Mania to their TSL, so I wouldn't be surprised if HKDL wanted to go in a different direction. Their TSL really needs something though, as it's by far the most lacking and skippable land in the park. Fantasyland at least has IASW as a headliner even if it's missing almost all the dark rides found at the other castle parks.

I’d argue HK is the park least in need of c tickets considering its entire lineup is functionally c tickets (FEA is a strong D, mystic manor, runaway mine cars and space are E everything else is a C or a B)

HK desperately needs a top of the line “come halfway around the world” for this because right now it offers precious little that you can’t get from going to another park, it’s reached the point where it’s not an active waste of time to go but it still really isn’t actually attracting anyone from another park

Totally agree! Peter Pan could be a captivating addition to Fantasyland. Disney has also at least shown a willingness to further develop rides based on classic IP with new technologies. With Pirates and Peter Pan at SDL being prime examples. (But Peter Pan in HK could potentially clash with Shanghai? Regardless, I personally would like to see it at the park in the future)

Epcot’s FEA might be a D, but HKDL one is definitely an E.

I agree HKDL needs a big headliner, but I argue many have visited the park because Mystic Manor has gotten so much praise, but on a whole, Mystic Manor isn't enough. I was arguing the park still needs more attractions in general, its still lacking rides for being a castle park. A huge E-Ticket will draw people, but they still need more supporting attractions. HKDL was so under built, adding something like PPF is a no brainer and should have opened with the park.

I will reiterate what I want for HKDL: An Aladdin magic carpet ride using PPF technology.

If we get Toy Story Mania, then I'd prefer it to be themed to another Pixar property, maybe Monsters or Inside Out.
