Come on everybody -- it's a 1 in 650 (not sure of actual size) chance of answering 6 disney questons over 40 minutes, or watching a person answer 6 disney questions over 40 minutes. This thing was 3X slower than the show ever was. Ideally they should have rolled through at least 6-7 contestants a show. I can't tell you the number of times I went and the same person was in the hot-seat from the last show, and nearly carried into the next show. What a bust!

I hesitate to bring this up again in a thread that has turned into a bashfest, but why does Midway Madness need to go in this spot? I realize you all think it's too late, the deal is done, whatever. But the simple fact is, there are other places in Disney-MGM this new attraction could go. This is yet another example of how Disney has adopted a mentality of kill and replace rather than add in the spaces you've got. There's the old Doug Live! building, the Hunchback Theater, and there must be other undeveloped spaces here and there behind the scenes they could adapt.
There is nothing wrong with Who Wants to be a Millionaire. It is a show about television. It is interactive. It is fun, especially if you enjoy trivia game shows as I do. It gives you a chance to win prizes (where else in Disney World besides Club Cool are you going to get something for free?).
So the show isn't as popular as it used to be on TV. When I was there in May, the line for it was just as long as any other that day. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of passing it in favor of the lame Lights, Motors, Action. I figured I'd somehow get to come back to Millionaire, but I ran out of time.
I enjoyed the California Adventure version of this show, and know the Florida version would have been just as great. I think it deserves better than the nasty responses it has been getting from people on this thread, but you're entitled to your opinions. I'll be signing the petition this evening, if only to show support for an underdog cause. Will it do any good? Probably not, but you never know.

This is the only show that includes the audience. Even if they changed it become "Deal or No Deal" or "The Price is Right" the level of interactivity between the audience and the the rest of the show would be minimal. Since Millionare is basically a dead TV Show, there is no reason to keep the MGM attraction...

Basically, WTBAM: Play It! was itself played out. Instead of Disney continuing to neglect the Disney-MGM Studios by letting attractions run past their prime, they are replacing Millionaire. This is the first step in the right direction for the renaissance of the Disney-MGM Studios. Out with the old, in with the new. Why this exact location? Who knows, but I'm assuming they thought this would be a good place, or maybe, they are thinking ahead. Who knows what the future has in store for the rest of the park?

Can they also either kill the Great Movie Ride or bring it into the 90's?
I think the GMR is a vital part of the Disney-MGM Studios. It is like D-MGM's Spaceship Earth. I do agree that many parts certainly need to be updated. Alien, the film at the end, etc.

Name a great movie from the 90's.

I don't have that much time to list them all

Of course, most of them wouldn't be available for the Disney ride, so I guess you do have a point.

Yes, lets update GMR by changing the Alien scene into Alien vs. Predator!

Just to let you know, the film at the end was updated last year. The new cut features Pirates of the Caribbean and the Chronicles of Narnia along with other films (Including many of the old ones).

Why in any sense would anyone want to save that attraction??? I understand people got a big thrill out of it but when I was there, there was hardly anyone there and most of the folks there were locals with AP's who all knew each other and played millionarie all day in order to try and win the cruise.

No thank you let this thing die and lets a real attraction in there not some campy game show wannabe. Let it die and use some grammar and make some sense. This isn't a classic attraction. It never was meant to be. It was there to fill up empty space because they were trying to be cheap and lets face it. That studio was a lot less expensive to build than a decent dark ride. Its time for something to and good bye to that attraction and let it die its death and be gone.

Take your own advice.

  1. Get a website to host your campaign (I used this method with the Dreamfinder Forever Campaign-not spamming just giving an example :lookaroun) Also, Grizz used D-Troops to host all of his campaigns-and most of them were successful-for a time.

  1. Sorry to burst your bubble, but websites such as these never change Disney's Policy... When things happen at Disney, its not because some nut put up a website, and convinced other nuts to look at it. Anybody who seriously thinks they affect the policy of a Fortune 100 company with a grassroots fansite and the support of rabid lunatics seriously needs to re-examine their life.

Rides > shows

Attractions based on animated movies > real people

I enjoyed Millionaire for its time but it's run it's course and an actual RIDE needs to be put there that has alot of repeatability.

Not happy if there are layoffs, but that's the nature of Live shows at parks. Goes with the territory.

Not completely true, before D-Troops shut down, they were credited with extending the life of Carousel of Progress and having it open for a full year- not seasonally.

I understand that to just have a website doesn't mean anything...You have to have and do more. But I'll just stop there because I know where this is gunna end up going...:lookaroun

Right, credited by people involved in the website, not by anyone who actually made any decisions

I think I'd credit it to better attendance and the fact that SGE was a bust.

I was going to ask, "credited by whom?" Are those credits in print at any reputable source?

Just wondering, that's all.

It is still open, is it not? And yet, D-troops has been gone for awhile now.

Ok, so I feel the hatred. Many of you need some serious counselling:lookaroun . If you don't like MGM so much, then don't go. Universal Studios is waiting for you. I agree with some of you MGM needs a major overhaul. It's a 1/2 day park at best. Matter of fact, myself and a group of 4 others covered the entire park, in about 5 hours. The way I see it, is Disney needs to take a serious look at expanding the park. Not size wise, but attraction wise. By utilizing the space they already have and creating more attractions, it should warrant a longer stay. LONGER STAYS = MORE MONEY. Also, how great of a ride can they really put in a space the size of WWTBAM? Do you really think they can put an E-ticket ride in there? As a normal non-AP vacationer, Disney has got to give me a reason to spend $1500 on a vacation. As much as many people will disagree, the refurbs to POTC, future refurbs to The Haunted Mansion and all the new pixar rides/shows, just don't warrant my $1500. The refurbs are all overdue, and many of the new pixar rides/shows are what I would consider remakes. Disney will not be able to generate a Everest type hype with a ride in the WWTBAM studios. So why do away with it, just add an attraction in the empty spaces they already have.

Hey everyone! I am the one who originally posted the e-mail to either help me save the attraction, or at least be able to live my dream of at least hosting it once!! Some of your comments about it have actually hurt me pretty badly and especially hurt my dreams:cry:. As has already been said there is a LOT of empty space in MGM, so WHY take out an attraction that still fills up to capacity everyday to put something new there while still leaving the ABC theater, Hunchback theater, and several soundstages completely EMPTY?!?!?!?!?!? That is sort of STUPID don't you think?? I have already applied as a cast member online, but like I said it could only be seaonal because I live 10 HOURS AWAY!! I don't know if that will help me in wanting to host it or not but if anyone thinks it will please help me get this to someone higher up in Disney. Remember these Are MY DREAMS, and I know you all wouldn't like it if someone crushed your dreams!! Just remember that when you are bashing someones future career hopes and dreams!!!! Anyway to those of you who are in support of trying to at least hlep me get there or get Disney to simply re-locate the attraction you can join as a friend of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Play It! on myspace and leave me messages and comments!! Go to myspace.com/millionaireplayit or myspace.com click search click display name and type Who Wants To BE A Millionaire? Play It! then add it as your friend. Thanks!
