Heath Ledger...Dead. R.I.P.

The current report on CNN says that the pills found near him appear to be over-the-counter sleeping pills. Could have been a bad reaction to the pills or accidental overdose...

I was reading on Wikipedia that he was having some severe sleep problems in preparing for his role in the Dark Knight (only sleeping a couple hours a night).

Yikes

They will re cast if they want to reprise the character.

EDIT:

From the NYTimes.com

The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment in Manhattan owned by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, according to the New York City police. Signs pointed to a suicide or an accidental overdose, police sources said. Mr. Ledger was 28.

...

The police said they did not suspect foul play. Officials said they believed Ms. Olsen, 21, was in California and that Mr. Ledger had been living in her apartment. Ms. Olsen attended the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, for the premiere of “The Wackness,” a film in which she stars with the actor Ben Kingsley. It was not clear where she went after the film screening.

The Dark Knight is in post production. Rumors from people that have "read the script" say that he probably wouldn't appear in a third movie. The next villian is Two-Face.

I don't think this is giving anything away because there could be fake scripts bouncing around.

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
Major bummer :(.... I saw him and his 'handlers' a couple of times this summer... when they were filming by my office. :(

Correct... TDK is 100% in post... its all CG fx, touch-ups, and audio (scoring...etc) now.

The next villan is Dent/Two-Face, which will come into play in TDK. 3rd script isnt even penned yet... due to writers strike. The plot synopsis (for the 3rd movie of this re-boot) may be floating around.. but nothing concrete.

Annyway... yeah.. this is a bummer. I still cannot believe it. :(

Did you guys see Brad Renfro (who you may or may not know) died of a drug overdose the other day too. He also left behind a child.

Yes, very sad. He had a thread here, too.

About 10 or more years ago, right about the time that River Phoenix died from an overdose at the Viper Room in L.A., a lot of people bemoaned the fact that young Hollywood had never learned from John Belushi's OD death another 10 years prior; and they hoped that River Phoenix's death would sound a warning. But people at the same time said that the vortex of drugs and Hollywood would forever have its victims, that new generations would, unfortunately, suffer the fates, leaving those deaths in vain.

My view is that sometimes the lessons of the past never sink in for the new generation, but that each life is still precious; and if even a few people learn from these situations and make better decisions, at least the deaths will have had SOME positive effect on those left behind.

EDIT: He may not have died from an OD of illegal drugs. If that is the case, my above comments (and the next post below) still apply as a cautionary tale, but not here. Nevertheless, however, it is still a huge tragedy and very, very sad. Either way, his family and friends have my sympathies and prayers.

P.S.: I did not know that Brad Renfro had a child. Do we know that is true? It was not mentioned in the news reports....

Ironic that Mary-Kate Olsen is a star of "Weeds," a comedy about dealing drugs as a normal part of life.

Drugs are not to be taken lightly. Period.

I heard the news on the radio on the way home from class this afternoon. The reporter/DJ was saying that he was found in bed by the maid when she went to wake him for a massage (his masseuse had arrived). Apparently, there is speculation that it was a heroin overdose

Over the counter sleeping pills was the last I heard. Autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, but the "unofficial" word is that it was accidental.

Renfro Remembered at Funeral

Hundreds of mourners turned out Monday to bid a final farewell to Brad Renfro.

The former child star was remembered at a funeral service in Knoxville, Tennessee, before which his family accepted condolences from some 600 well-wishers at a local mortuary.

His great-uncle, Michael Earl, officiated at the service, touching on Renfro's history of addiction, but focusing more on the positive aspects of the actor's life.

"Brad had problems just like I have problems, just like you have problems, just like all of us have trials and tribulations that we go through," Earl said, per the Knoxville News Sentinel.

"He lived life, and he enjoyed it. Whatever he did, he did it hard as he could."

Renfro was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Jan. 15. He was 25.

An autopsy was performed last week, but the cause of death has yet to be determined. Toxicology tests typically take about six weeks to come back.

In a surprise twist, Renfro's family revealed in an obituary placed in the Sentinel that the actor was survived by a young son, whom they referred to only as "Y Renfro" in the announcement in order to protect his identity.

Renfro's father and stepmother told TMZ that the boy lives with his mother in Japan and that Renfro spent time with his son before his death.

Renfro got his big break in show business at age 12, when he starred opposite Susan Sarandon in The Client.

Over the years, he continued to work steadily but never regained the same buzz factor as his early days, as rumors of his substance-abuse problems frequently outweighed all other publicity.

This makes me so very very sad...I heard the news while listening to Hannity on my drive home. I was so shocked...I've never heard a word about him being depressed and/or into drugs. I really loved his work, totally thought he deserved an Oscar for Brokeback. When I heard the news I just started shaking, obviously it's not like I knew him, but so young and talented, with so much to live for. I will pray for his family. I guess you just never know what is really going on in someone's life.

He will be missed.

I am in complete disbelief.

Really admired this guys talents as an actor and I am soooo psyched for Dark Knight...
it is going to be so much darker and strange to watch it when it comes out... that is if he finished filming it all...
It's like Brandon Lee in the Crow all over...
the death... much different.

I didnt see him as into drugs...
guess it can be hidden all to well.
Very sad day indeed

R.I.P.

:(

Taryn, you just said everything I've been trying to say since I heard he died. I'm still stunned and speechless. He really will be missed.
