Yes, very sad. He had a thread here, too.

About 10 or more years ago, right about the time that River Phoenix died from an overdose at the Viper Room in L.A., a lot of people bemoaned the fact that young Hollywood had never learned from John Belushi's OD death another 10 years prior; and they hoped that River Phoenix's death would sound a warning. But people at the same time said that the vortex of drugs and Hollywood would forever have its victims, that new generations would, unfortunately, suffer the fates, leaving those deaths in vain.
My view is that sometimes the lessons of the past never sink in for the new generation, but that each life is still precious; and if even a few people learn from these situations and make better decisions, at least the deaths will have had SOME positive effect on those left behind.
EDIT: He may not have died from an OD of illegal drugs. If that is the case, my above comments (and the next post below) still apply as a cautionary tale, but not here. Nevertheless, however, it is still a huge tragedy and very, very sad. Either way, his family and friends have my sympathies and prayers.

P.S.: I did not know that Brad Renfro had a child. Do we know that is true? It was not mentioned in the news reports....
