We have been the last 3 years this time of year. Crowds are not too bad. The school in the south will have just gone back to school so the wait times are not to long. But the heat will be out of this world. I would suggest taking advantage of both morning and evening EMH to help with the heat. Take in lots of shows in the A/C and do TS meals to help keep you cool. Stay away from soda and drink lots of water. And most of all HAVE A AWEOME TRIP!!!!

We are arriving on the 25th. This will be our 3rd time going at the end of August. It works for us. Schools in my area don't go back until after Labor Day. Southern schools are usually back the middle of August so that means it's less crowded then it is in early August.

Be prepared for heat, be prepared for needing an afternoon break, be prepared for occassional thunder storms

I agree with all of the above - it is hot and humid.

Bring ponchos and take advantage of the rain to hit the parks. It will be cooler and less crowded.

You may also want to consider spending some time in the waterparks.

We will be there, too!! Our 4th August trip and yes, it's hot. But it's hot everywhere so it's not a big deal. Crowds are not bad... it is busy but not crazy. Go early to any park, pool in the afternoon, go at night to EMH park. It has not rained much for us, usually a shower that is over in 10minutes. Bring several pairs of shoes so you can change from AM to PM. Lots of sunblock. We may have a dining plan by then so be prepared and check the boards a lot for announcements. Enjoy - it's awesome!!

We will be taking our 1st August trip this year.
We have been in June, September, & November.
I am sure August will be our hottest trip ever.
But, we are from the south & are somewhat used to hot & humid during that time of the year.
I am hoping that the crowds at the end of August will not be as bad as some of the other months when we have visited.

Hurricane season is normally in full swing... But Disney does not close up shop unless they absolutely need to.. If you have flights I might want to consider trip insurance. August is a great time to go... Use your fast passes for big rides (also be aware of the new rules regarding the times), drink plenty of fluids, bring dollar store ponchos, and HAVE FUN! Oh and bring at least two pairs of shoes.. you ARE going to want to get wet cuz its so hot and nobody wants to walk around in soggy shoes....

August Trip

We will also be there in Aug. (3rd throught the 10th). I am a teacher so I am stuck going in the summer. We have been there in June, July, and August and they are all hot and crowded. But is it Disney, I wouldn't be anywhere else. We go to the parks in the morning, swim in the afternoon, and back for EMH in the evenings. We carry water and wear Crocs or flip flops for those occasional showers and always have ponchos on hand. Definitely use the fastpass system. We have been doing this for the last 6 summers, so we have learned how to get all the rides in, multiple times, during our stays.

We used to do the water parks, but being in the summer they are always so crowded, and I didn't feel we really got our money's worth. We would never stay more then a few hours and usually only made it to one of the water parks during our stay. Now that my children are getting older we may take advantage of them more in the next few years.

Don't forget you are in Disney, not at work or dealing with the stress of home. So even if it is hot and crowded, just do your best to relax and enjoy. If you have children, just watch their faces and expressions as they take in the magic of Disney, there is nothing like it, whether is is cold or hot or crowded or empty.

I was getting ready to post the same question as other than our first Jan. trip last month we've only been in April/May. Coming down again though from 8/14-8/18 so nice to hear the crowds aren't that bad. It was actually busier than what we expected last month (late Jan.) but still not bad.

I know a lot of people will say to avoid the park that's open late for EMH because everyone staying at a WDW resort goes there, but when it comes to a late August trip, I'd say it's almost better to avoid going to a park AT ALL in the morning or early afternoon. Wait until after lunch, then go in the afternoon to a park open late for EMH. The heat will be at its worst, but everyone who was there since park opening will be wilting in the sun and done for the day. You'll have few hours where crowds aren't so bad (and they won't be nearly as bad as the rest of the summer when all school are out anyway). When the sun starts to set, it'll still be hot and humid, but at least you're not roasting in the sun. Stay out as late as you can handle, go home, take a shower, sleep late, get a late breakfast and swim in the pool and rest till the next afternoon. Repeat.

Either that or take advantage of the morning EMH that day. Get up super early and be prepared to call it a day by early afternoon, because you'll probably be spent.

We will be there the 19th through the 24th of August. Crowds will not really be so bad and we will probably see the Fall decorations starting to go up. Downside: crazzzy hot. Bring lots of water bottles (freeze them in the hotel, too) to stay HYDRAted and cool. I also bring zip locks and wash cloths. I wet the cloths and freeze them and put in the zip locks. It helps to wet yourself throughout the day. Take lots of breaks and pace yourself. Afternoon dips in the pool help, too.

Have an amazing first trip!!!!

When you arrive it's going to be hot and humid. It is going to rain on some of those days. Just accept it. Get some ponchos and have fun. As long as there is no lightning you will be fine.
