Heard it from 2 different CM's, seems that they also talk an awful lot about problems with various rides and such, from what was said..it was an design flaw that is making getting to the yeti's innards a problem....take it for what it's worth

But you heard it from Operations CM's right? Not the actual CM's who work on him and repair the ride. There is a problem accessing the inside of the figure, it may be difficult and a pain in the butt but still accessible. Especially when you have 200 lbs of Yak hair that is held to the skin with hundreds of snaps and zippers.

my take from it that it wasnt inside the figure...the problem resides in the machinery under or behind the yeti that is not accessable without major work

That is not true either, that is the easy part to access because that behind the figure and not on the ride path. The mountain inside is pretty empty, a couple of electric and electronic rooms so actually they could work on things behind the scenes with the ride running.

Im only stating what I was told...and that was the mountain was built around the yeti in such a way that whatever is wrong with it is inaccessable without MAJOR work being done...true or not I dont know...but both sources seemed credible...but again I dot work for Disney and by no means am I proclaiming the gospel here

I don't understand why a lengthy refurbishment of EE would be a problem. It's not the newest latest addition any more, or at the very least it won't be after New Fantasyland is here. Animal Kingdom functioned before EE, and it can function without it for the period of time it would take to fix it. It has become an infamous embarrassment at this point. Just fix the poor thing.

The first time I went to AK, the river boats were still being used, Kali was still being built (making CTE the main thrill ride) and that is when you could legitamatly call it a 1/2 day park. We got there at opening, did all rides, saw all shows (including Tarzan, may have skipped Pocahontas), and walked all trails and were done by 1 PM. For the record...I now consider it a full day park. ;)

I was there on opening day, and it had 2 rides (Wildlife Express Train and River Boats didn't count). I love the animal exhibits (although I really hope the fix the area around the Tree of Life), I love all the shows, and the rides. Having said that, the park needs more rides and the rides need to be a bit more densely populated.

If they want to make DHS's numbers look better than they can take the Yeti offline for a year to fix it. However, I fear that they won't even consider it until they have another major draw in that park, and I don't think a relocated Festival of the Lion King is that draw.
I think the bigger concern for Disney is not that they go to a different park, it is that AK wouldn't be a draw resulting in the purchase of a 3 day pass instead of 4 because the 4th day would be spent at UNI. So I bet they really consider the fix of this prop as costing them lots in attendance dollars! For some people, AK is a full day park!

I agree with this 100%...people do not flock to Animal Kingdom for this one ride! Close the ride already and fix it. I dont see How it could take over a year to fix. Once FE is complete I think they should really think about putting funds into this broken masterpiece..the story was so much more complete with him.

On a side note....does anybody know if the alioramus is working yet? I was there on august 30th and havent heard if it is back in order. thanks

The mountain wasn't built around the yeti. The yeti went in well after the mountain structure was complete. They could pull him out without too much trouble.

Actually thats not what Joe Rohde said. Yesterday on Modern Marvels they replayed a Disney Modern Marvels from 2005 and Joe rhode said they had to put the Yeti inside the mountain first because he was so big and then they finished the mountain around him and there is no way he can get in and out. I just saw it yesterday on the History Channel 2. Try and look it up and see it for yourself. Thats what he said.

You are right! Joe Rohde said that on Modern Marvels (2005). I know because they just replayed it yesterday on the history channel 2 and he said the Yeti was so big they had to put him in first and then finish the mountain.

I think good ol' Joe may be splitting hairs a bit.

The yeti technically isn't situated in the "mountain" part of the structure, but just inside the rear "warehouse" area. He is not surrounded by mountain structure at all. This is always confusing for people. The rockwork doesn't go all the way around.

However, the room where he is located is heavily themed with rockwork. No doubt some of that work had to be completed after the animatronic was installed. Perhaps that is what he was talking about.

As for the TV shows, look on youtube at the Discovery channel show. They clearly show, near the end, the yeti being shipped to AK and installed in the room inside the structure. The room is already filled with rock work while they are installing him. Joe has to be referring to doing some finish work on the indoor rockwork.

Here`s the art. A proper photo from onride is virtually impossible.
Or...

I dont know, that's what he said... That is where people are coming up with this.
