Just as an FYI -

They talked a bit about Potter vs. the Mouse during the news segment on the Howard Stern Show. It was obvious that they didn't REALLY know what they were talking about, but the basic point being made was that Potter is drawing tons of people, and those people are buying merch (specifically wands) like crazy.

I am sure they had no idea what they were talking about, that being said. Interesting that they managed to fit that into their news segment, even if it was a slow news day.

Its great continuing word for what Universal has done.

Heading for the great escape.
They may be selling wands but they are not as good as Disney would have done and Im sure the CMs at Disney would wrap the boxes with a magical flair. Disneys cash registers even count the numbers up more magically too.

Well people are buying the wands, though I wonder what their sales are going to be like in the fall.

I wonder if they opened the park sooner that butter beer would be sold i stores like the jelly beans were.

Universal hands out bonuses following success of Harry Potter

"Thousands of team members across all areas of our destination received bonuses today [Thursday] — from back-of-house team members to those in direct contact with our guests," Universal spokeswoman Alyson Lundell said. "We're thanking our team members for the excellent work they've done over the past year and for where we know they will continue to take us in 2011."

Wizarding World sends Universal attendance through roof in 4th quarter

"
Universal Orlando ended 2010 with its best fourth quarter on record and its highest annual attendance since 2004, thanks to the success of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Attendance at the resort's two theme parks skyrocketed 46 percent during the final three months of the year, according to a report filed Friday with federal regulators. The combined fourth-quarter head count jumped from 2.3 million in 2009 to 3.3 million."

So the 4th quarter the total resort numbers rose 1 million and about the same amount in the previous quarter. So the total uni complex went from 9.9 to just about 12 million annually?

You know...I was initially excited for Harry Potter at Universal...but from what I see there isn't anything NEW there other than the HP branding...Fire and Ice was just renamed along with the other rides in that area....so...really no big deal. I'm going in a week so...we'll see.

:lookaroun Um... I hear they have one new little ride called "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" which is supposedly one of the most technologically advanced and exciting dark rides in the world, which I've heard blows away every dark ride Disney has, and that the only other dark ride that even compares is Spiderman (also at Universal IOA) which is probably the best dark ride I've ever experienced.

I personally haven't seen the attraction yet. I'm going in a few months. But unlike you, I AM excited.

I just wish Disney would answer with something as amazing (or even better).

We just started a series of polls on my site to vote for the top 100 theme park attractions in central Florida. Right now Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is winning for the #1 attraction.

Disney has The Sum Of All Thrills, same ride system. There is also ToT, which is better than amazing spiderman.

As for the most technologically advanced dark ride, Pooh's Hunny Hunt takes that award.

Pooh's Hunny Hunt is innovative...but NOT Potter. BY ANY MEANS.

ToT is one of the best ever...as is Indiana Jones...and Pirates.

But the most advanced and immersive rides have got to be Spiderman and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey hands down. On all of the rides I've ridden, I have NOT walked off that amazed since I first rode Indiana Jones, or Spiderman for the first time. It's been a good long time since I've been that amazed by a ride...and Potter does not let down!

I will give fj for being immersive, though hogwarts should have been more then the queue a single ride. amazing's queue area theming is just window dressing now with dated elements.
