Harry Potter IS making a difference!!

They bought the property for a reason - it appeals to young males in the way Princesses appeal to young girls. Sure, they are making money on the licenses, but it is a double edged sword - every big Marvel film, every hot Marvel TV show, every popular Marvel video game makes Universal money. In the long run, it does not benefit Disney to have its intellectual property making money for a competing theme park (and company). Otherwise, they'd be licensing out Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Captain Jack Sparrow too, as they'd be major money makers.

As for breaking the agreement, the devil is always in the details. For example, Universal presumably has access to the rights of almost every Marvel comic book character for use in its Florida park - but does it have access to Marvel film characters? If DHS wanted to turn it's backlot tour into a How We Make Marvel Movies Backlot Tour (using Robert Downey Jr as host), could they? I think it's unlikely, but it all depends on the contract language.

How about a far more likely scenario ... could Disney build a Marvel Universe themed restaurant and mega-store at DTD? Does the contract language say Universal has exclusive rights to the characters in theme parks? Or resorts? We already know Disney can sell Marvel merchandise in their stores ... does the contract language preclude themeing an entire store? How about a water park? Or a Hotel complex?

This is Disney. They built DHS to directly steal money from Universal Orlando. They built AK to directly steal money from Busch Gardens Tampa. They built Pleasure Island to directly steal money from Church Street Station. They built DCA to try and pull people from Universal Studios, the Santa Monica Pier, and the California National Parks. If they could make IOA's Marvel-land irrelevant, they'd do it in a heartbeat.

The only ride tied to a character that may still be featured in a future film is spiderman.

Ummm...Hulk is going to be in the Avengers, they're making another X-Men movie so Storm could be featured, and they're making another Fantastic Four movie meaning Doctor Doom will also be in another movie.

And that's exactly their problem. They are reactionary, while Universal has been forward thinking and not just copying what the guy next door is doing.

Man. When you think about it that way...was EPCOT Center the last thing WDW built just because it was a cool idea on its own?

Why do you think they were all gung-ho about that Night Kingdom idea before the economy crashed? They were POed that Discovery Cove was getting a portion of the Orlando vacationers' dollars.

And don't forget the DCA re-model that, if they didn't do it, would cause DLR to lose face as a true "resort".

I'd call it the last ballsy decision Disney had to make...a $1.1 billion dollar investment, based on a truly revolutionary theme park model, that wasn't subsidized by the Oriental Land Company or a foreign company (Tokyo Disneyland/Disney Sea and HKDL, respectively). There will never be another EPCOT. If the cost of WestCot was enough to make Eisner veto it, and Disney is even more Wall-Street-obsessed than it ever was, it's not hard to realize why you'll never see another EPCOT. (For those wondering, the Animal Kingdom only cost in the ballpark of $800 mil since they cut Beastlie Kingdomme.)

just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it isn't true or it doesn't happen... Just sayin'...

In my experiences i have experienced rude employees every time I've been to Uni...but then again i haven't been there but a handful of times compared to my WDW visits, and I've probably experience just as many rude CMs (maybe more) as I have at Uni.

Wow...You either have really bad luck, or you're looking for trouble. lol

I have experienced rude employees at both WDW and Universal...but nowhere near the rude or uncaring I've found at other amusement and theme parks around the United States. For the most part the people at both the Orlando resorts are courteous and helpful.

There is no mention of storm being in x-men first class, it is a prequel to the trilogy. It undecided if they are going to make another F4 movie, the purchase of marvel has credited problems with fox. as for the avengers, i don't know how much of a role the hulk will have with this will relate to iron man 3, thor and captain america: first avenger. also, neither bana or norton is going to be hulk.

I wonder what the contract with universal spells out with promotion of any marvel film at wdw. If disney is able to promote all upcoming marvel movies in wdw/dhs, universal may break the contract so that they are not paying disney to promote disney's movies.

Only time was at IOA was in '01 for senior trip. We had a good time, though we were disappointed that the park was closing down at 4 pm when we were leaving.

Mark Ruffalo is the Hulk, and you better bet he's going to have a role. Hulk is one of the original Avengers, and he's certainly going to have a huge part in the movie.

I want to know what strings are attached to this deal. The cost is about the same, and you get transportation.

I honestly can't find any strings attached; no time-share presentation or having to leave early. You do need to do some planning, however. You need to call Mears the day before so they know to swing by and pick you up in the morning, and the shuttle comes back to Uni in the afternoon every hour from 3pm to 2am. Since it's a shuttle, you obviously don't go *right* to either Uni or your hotel; they'll be a stop or two to pick up/drop off others.

Is 1 day/2 parks a realistic way to do it, or do you really need 2 days to do both parks?

I haven't been to Uni in years. I spent probably 3/4 of a day at the studios years ago, and probably a good 1/2 day at IOA. Seems like 1 day would be pretty packed to do it all.

That's outside the scope of this forum but... if you visit during the low season, during the week, you can do most of both parks in one long packed day.

If you visit on a weekend or during a busy time, you would only be able to hit the major attractions in both parks in 1 day.

You can probably get much better answers in a dedicated Universal forum though.

As a long time Disney AND Universal fan, I will tell ya that during the off season you can do Universal, Islands of Adventure, Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom all in a half day. As of late, there really hasn't been the same type of 'off season' as we have had in years past, so I would definitely take 2 days if you plan on seeing everything at both Universal Parks.

Their most popular park, Great Adventure, has the same attendance as typhoon lagoon. It is like comparing your high school JV team to the yankees.

So what. The implication was that Six Flags is unsafe. Which is absolutely not true. You're no more likely to get injured at a Six Flags park than at Disney...and in point you are more likely to get injured at Diseny than Six Flags.

Thats are certainly greater than an injury can happen at the world vs GA. More people, a much bigger area to play in, more transportation options.
