Technical and budgetary.
The newer ToT shafts are technically superior and even cheaper. But if a fifth dimension scene would've been considered an indispensable part of the story, a rousing success, it would've been included in some form in the three newer versions.

OLC didn't exactly demand the WDW version, and they are not quick to settle for the cheap version.

Naw, the later Twilight Zone Towers were quick and dirty additions to cheap struggling parks that desperately needed a headliner. And OLC didn't need a 5th Dimension hallway anyways considering they weren't doing a Twilight Zone storyline.

DHS ToT is my all-time favourite ride, and I also adore the WDSP version in Paris. Never ridden the DCA one so can't compare.

My question is - I've never seen GotG. Is there an obvious sequence in that movie that would lend itself to the drop tower type ride? Is this a simple overlay or a completely new ride in the existing ToT location at DCA?

The 5th D was cut since the DCA version was designed for WDSP under Eisners order to be cheaper.

Don't give them any ideas...

One can only imagine Pirates with a Star Wars overlay.
I can't. I had to Google image search this concept just to imagine such a thing. This is what I found...

And one other thing...

How do we even know what the plotline will be for this new ride? The whole point of tomorrow's Marvel presentation at Comic Con is to talk about Guardians 2 coming out next year. None of us have any idea what the movie will be about, and none of us know anything about how the ride would work or be themed to in DCA, or if it happens in DHS. All we know is that "Tower of Terror will be remade into a Guardians of the Galaxy ride".

And yet we've decided it will be horrible, and it will be cheap, and it will violate the sacred oath of the park dedication plaques out on Buena Vista Street(DCA) or Hollywood Blvd.(DHS). It will also likely steal a piece of our soul and deposit it into a large Mason Jar sitting on a shelf in Bob Chapek's den. Also, Walt's favorite TV show was Twilight Zone. He never missed it.

But maybe on Saturday at 5:30 P.M. San Diego time we might learn something different. Or maybe not.

At some point we need to give up and accept that any outrage is only making life worse for ourselves and not affecting Disney CO. at all.

As upset I am that a ride is on the chopping block, I think I'm more upset that GotG is not getting a proper, brand new ride. I'm less upset that it's shoehorned into DCA.

I'm hoping we get some cool concept art. Ill be ready with pitchfork in hand (and stiff drink in the other) in case we don't.

There is a reason why the newer ToT's dropped (hah!) the fifth dimension scene. Like you say, it is an ineffective scene that merely detracts. As with movies, or DL into WDW's Pirates, common wisdom is to edit out that which detracts from the pace and story.

It doesn't distract me. It is my second favorite part. It is so cool when the elevator leaves the shaft. I am not sure why you think it is ineffective, either. I believe it was not added to the other ToT's because of cost and issues with E-stops because of the sensors in that scene. Not because it wasn't effective or distracting.

Also, are you saying you like WDW version of Pirates better that the DL version? I feel the opposite way.

I'm very disappointed that this is happening. TOT is in the "spooky" genre of rides which is able to appeal to all ages while a superhero ride will only appeal to fans of that specific movie. I am not a fan of superhero movies and honestly don't know anything about Guardians of the Galaxy. Such a shame as it will be just another ride on the long list of rides I have no interest in riding at DCA.

Couldn't agree more.. I teach all about heroes in my classes and I still get bored to death of the oversaturation of super hero movies... If I want to go to Super Hero World I'll head to 6 flags or Universal, but overall I prefer Disney because it's less mainstream and more creative (or at least it used to be). I haven't been to California yet, but it's always been on the bucket list because it's Walt's park. With this and Star Wars Land, I'm thinking it might not be worth the expense now.
