Guardians Tower announcement Saturday in SD ...

Well, obviously this is not the best news Spirit, but thank you for sharing.

I do not think DCA's Tower of Terror is the greatest thing. It's inferior to DHS's original ride. But it fits the park very well, and especially fits the Hollywood theme. Throwing in movie characters that don't fit only contributes to the movie world mishmash that DCA is in danger of becoming.

I'm not anti-movie-IP-in-the-parks, I just know that the parks need to have a cohesive theme in order to work the magic that they have since 1955.

Cars Land, in my opinion, is a good use of movie IP to enhance the theme and the park. Route 66 and the rocky landscape are all very fitting, and the cars are lively and entertaining. I don't see how GotG could be the same, in this situation. Maybe they'll surprise us, but I highly doubt it.

Oh, and I keep saying "movie IP" rather than just "IP" because Tower of Terror is its own IP. I don't think Disney realizes that, even among regular people, Tower of Terror is a more popular and well-known IP than GotG.

Did you not read my other points? Its stupid to close down a major crowd puller right now, this is a very hard and expensive job to do. I also doubt its Joe's fault unless hes one of the civil engineers who designed the building.

Not talking about you at all. Just pointing out that so many people believe Joe Rhode is a God and therefore, e.g. when he says GotG is good, then it must be good. etcetera etcetera etcetera

But as to your comment here, if its known to be a very hard and expensive thing to do, then the decision was made with full knowledge of the situation and thus hardly stupid. YOU might think its stupid, the ones making the decision clearly DO NOT.

If its so obviously 'stupid' and detrimental to the corporations earnings then as a shareholder I suggest you begin a lawsuit and motions to remove the directors who approved the decision that you believe was taken carelessly.

What are you talking about? I'm just here defending Joe over the yeti. I also think Gotg is a good idea - if done correctly.

That's an interesting apples to oranges comparison, but if we're just talking about name recognition, you might not be wrong.

Maybe to park regulars. Among casual fans and people who've never been to a Disney Park, I'd say that's a far more iffy assertion.

DCA is in the process of getting a whole land based on Marvel to draw those people in. I know DCA's Tower isn't as good as Orlando's based on personal experience but imo that's no excuse to shoehorn the Guardians into it. After all is said and done the "new" Tower may not even be within the actual confines of Marvel Land so it seems even more pointless.

Like the ones who said "bring it on" in response to Potter one year?

I think one of the new methods for keeping the parks fresh is to makeover certain attractions. This isn't new. Remember the giant cake over Cinderella's castle. Remember the wand and 2000 on Spaceship Earth? And the Christmas decorations everywhere are an annual redo in some small way of many of the major attractions. DL's Carousel of Progress has been a display venue for years ala Innoventions. What Disney seems to be doing is having core attractions in place that can be chameleoned into the newest hot thing.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the original contract for royalties to the owner of "Twilight Zone" is up for renewal. There's no better way to negotiate such a contract than to say, "We don't need you anymore." Given the sheer amount of Intellectual Property now owned by Disney, one must think that the days of collaboration are ending. Disney owns a lot of IP, but I can't help but be sad that left field properties like Twilight Zone, Aerosmith, and Indiana Jones are becoming a thing of the past. Of course, Pixar, Star Wars and the Muppets were collaborations that Disney eventually bought up. Perhaps Twilight Zone will be bought up too, but I don't think it's big enough for Disney to want it.

Stop whining.

Fixing the yeti is a huge and expensive job, it was causing foundation issues and the ride would have to be closed for many months, it will be fixed after avatar opens. It's a huge crowd puller and it would be stupid to close it down right now.

Joe Rohde actually explained this

Edit: The forum wont let it go to the specific time. Go to 48:30

A very reliable source around here has said otherwise.

Well I aint' talking about the yeti that's got its own thread. oh well, we move forward its cleaner than moving backward. maybe

It may not really have an impact on the ride, and I agree with you on that, but it still has a story even though it is very minor.

Yeah, that's a very odd argument. After all, many regard the Swiss Family Treehouse as a classic attraction, and what's the story there?

Good points. Except that aerosmith thing. Those guys are tired beyond recognition.

If I think about 100 years from now, none of it matters.

These forums really bring out the best in people everything from insulting each other's opinions to name calling to mudslinging etc. I don't understand why people take some of these things so personally. I love Disney World, Land etc but geez I wouldn't attack another person's opinion regarding it.

I enjoy all of the ideas and insights that people bring to these forums and heck the imagination that some of you possess is truly remarkable, but is it worth putting other people down or in essence saying "No your opinion is wrong stupid (using a "nicer" noun)?" I know Disney strikes a nerve with all of us (trust me, Star Wars does this to me and sports) but I just don't get the attitude of some posters.

Look there are going to be pros and cons to an overlay of ToT, there's going to be people that will applaud anything Marvel coming to the parks or any other IPs for that matter, but is it really worth getting bent out of shape over?

With that being said, we riot in about 5 and a half hours ;);););)

Exactly. The Hollywood Tower Hotel and the hotel concept of Tower of Terror are the takeaways and the IP from the ride. The TZ theming enhances the ride but it is not the backbone of the ride. Any GOTG theme attraction would rely completely on the IP. ToT uses the IP to enhance the attraction, the IP itself is the not the attraction. They wanted to build a haunted hotel elevator drop and used TZ IP to enhance. If they just wanted to build a drop ride... I doubt the first IP they would hunt down would be the Twilight Zone.
