And the thing is, they could easily silence all the "Splash Mountain is racist" if they just did a VERY carefully marketed re-release, perhaps with a bonus feature hosted by Leonard Maltin featuring various African-Americans who don't have a problem with it. Then, people would watch it, realize the the animated bits are cool, the live-action bits are kind of boring, and there's no real malice otherwise.

And Universal...

Dis is coasting on when they used to be themed, but is rapidly moving towards the Universal model.
Universal is without a doubt IP based. But it is really not all about wallowing in the Universal brand. Particularly since their biggest IP is Warner Brothers, Simpsons is FOX, Transformers is Paramount, Terminator is Orion, Men In Black is Columbia, Kong is Radio Pictures, The Grinch is CBS, and Spider-man and The Hulk are Disney.

I know, but it's coming. Uni lacked the brand density of Dis, but just because they didn't have their own doesn't mean it's not a branded experience. Not to mention from Illumination to Dreamworks plus their big year last year, it's coming just the same. Fast and the Furious and Jimmy Fallon is the start of that change of focusing on their own brand.

For the past 5-7 years everyone wanted Disney Parks to be more like Universal's recent run, but I fear no one realized the direction Universal has taken us. Disregard for original attractions, shirking of history, quick turnover with the hottest IP. All about the merch sales. It's the new model and it is clearing not meshing well with long time Disney fans.

Just because Universal started on the 'dark side' of IP, doesn't excuse every action they make. At the same time Disney has basically ruined the way the studios run. Every studio wants to be Dis and every studio is rapidly trying to start their own 'brands'.

And to be clear, I've largely enjoyed Universal Parks as of late. But you have to be on board a train heading in a very different direction.

Universal have become masters of merchandising, this is true. But they have become better at theming and place making. Disney on the other hand appears to have completely given up. Frozen obviously belongs in Fantasyland. Avatar at DHS. GotG at DHS. Inside Out and Big Hero 6 could both work at Epcot. But Disney doesn't think like that anymore. The only reason Arendale invaded Norway was to drag some of the Princess crowd OUT of Fantasyland.

Every studio wants their own Cinematic Universe. WB's doing it with DC, Legendary's doing it with giant monsters, and Universal wants to do it with the Classic Monsters. Chasing that Marvel money.

When it comes to history I think the biggest loss at Universal was Jaws but I think all that replaced it is more than worth it. I never rode Kongfrontation so Mummy is all I know from that spot and it's pretty great :) My first trip is the only one where I saw BTTF and looking back at the video of it it would've been a bit dated if it stayed until now. Here's hoping BTTF could one day get the King Kong treatment in that third park. When it comes to Disaster! or Twister I don't really care that they're leaving but more for what the replacements are. Jimmy doesn't seem like anything special and could end up being funny I guess but F&F just looks bad based on Hollywood. Both spaces could've been used much more wisely.

I agree but I do think Avatar is fine for AK. I wouldn't want Inside Out to come at the cost of Figment. Put it in the 3D theater. BH6 might as well go in WoL so we can have a little "Not-Marvel" Land in WDW

I am sort of half expecting that. I guess we can at least take solace in the fact that ONE of those things fits in FW.

I'm OK with Avatar as well. Of course I would rather be Crazy over the moon excited about something going into a park. But hey thats how it is now, "Well I can see how it would work." The days of them adding a beastly kingdom or Australia Because it would be a perfect fit for AK are sadly over.
