Guardians Tower announcement Saturday in SD ...

Joe can't do without his trademark anymore. It is what gives him starpower to the public, instantly recognisable. And an aura of 'weirdo creative type' to the suits, whose language he otherwise speaks perfectly whenever necessary.

Though not without qualities, he is my candidate for most overrated imagineer. (Or 'starmagineer'? Like starchitects) Great general ideas, poorly translated into reality, fantastic art direction, sucky rides that are commonly way too short.
Do we know if that's his real ear? At this point, it may be a prosthetic.

I have a feeling that the next part of the park to be changed is not Hollywood but Flicks fun fair or at least a chunk of it.

By removing flicks fun fair and adding the remaining timon land then that corner of the park would turn into a marvel themed land.

As for the trolley, I don't think it will look to bad passing in front of this new tower. The design seems to have an Art Deco look and could easily be described as an independent of abondaned hotel building that has now been turned into someone's residence. In this case a crazy art collector that has modified it as a museum.

It's actually not to far fetched. Just look at Los Angeles. Many of the old theaters, hotels and wherehouse a have been restored and have kept their Art Deco or mission architecture. Some elements have been added to bring them up to this decade and have been turned into museums, stores, and lofts.

I think people are just looking at this as a building in space but the marvel universe is huge and much of it exists here in this planet

As a matter of fact the collector traveled to earth and it was here where he became determine to capture iron man, captain America the wasp and other avengers. This could very well be the story that WDI is going for since they involved Marvel in the project. Together Marvel and WDI came up with a plan that could fit somewhat to the comics

I see nothing Art Deco about the new look, and doesn't compare to what's going on with the theaters on Broadway Street in Downtown Los Angeles.

I haven't seen Joe look this frustrated/uneasy since that Avatar model photo

Awe, Tom Staggs. He looks so happy in this photo. Tom's cherubic smile suggests that he had no idea that he would never enjoy an opening day celebration in this new addition to Disney's Animal Kingdom park. No Tom, none of this was all meant to be yours one day.

Is Joe Rohde essentially teasing a Marvel universe? I know that it's been mentioned but is this sort of a confirmation? If true, let's keep our fingers crossed for new original rides for our California friends instead of cheap overlays and re-themes.

Yeah. I swear his ear will rip off eventually. P.S he is the worst Imagineer of them all I must say.

Joe's work is top notch quality. You should both thank your lucky stars that he's had a hand in several large WDW projects.

It wasn't his idea to overlay ToT. His creative touch and ambition will be sorely missed when his time is up.

If you manage to make a boat ride with waterfalls and three-headed trolls and vikings suck (quite the feat!), while the anonymous earlobe-intacts make your work rock with a simple princess overlay, then maybe others should be in charge of revisiting your work rather than the other way round.

Most interesting part of the announcement was Joe Rhode confirming that this is the first phase of a much larger Marvel Land project for DCA. Thus confirming the big rumor that Micechat has been championing for something like 3 years now. Also adds more fuel to the fire that the Epcot Marvel stuff is coming. I still predict it will be announced at D23 next year along with more details of DCA's Marvel Land.

Well he said more marvel... That could mean marvel dust spread everywhere... He fell short of confirming a dedicated land or expansion. But we gotta assume the backlot goes at some point. Muppets, monsters, etc would all be prime for rethemes

I don't think anyone saying he is bad but some people are just past their prime and already had their Magnus opus moment. I think Joe hit his limit awhile ago. It's okay people can't always stay on top even the greats fall at times.

Something tells me you aren't very familiar with Joe's body of work. I'm not going to do your research for you. It's well-documented.

Somebody brought up an interesting point that during the DCA overhaul some of the budget went into retheming that area into Hollywoodland to unify the area with the Hollywood Tower Hotel and Red Car Trolley Line and thus connect it back to the California theme of the park. However now by turning that part of the park into a Marvel area they are actually undoing what they spent a decent amount of money retheming just a few years ago! What a waste.

They just spent the minimum over there to hold that side of the park off. That was fabled "phase two" area (aka we won't do it this time). The trolley and gate area were the main work down there. The big efforts really did go much down that sweet past the hub area except to remove most of the Dca puns. The big work was redoing the street for the trolley.
