Call me dramatic but how does this not go down as one of the worst decisions in DLR history.

Off the top of my head It's like...

DCA1.0
TL 98
GOTG overlay

It's too soon to lump this in with Tomorrowland 98 and DCA 1.0. By the time they finish expanding/overhauling DCA this might still be the crown jewel of the park. I don't it but I'm an optimist and it can still happen. My biggest fear is that this thing opens then the rest of the Marvel expansion gets cancelled and this temporary break in theme becomes permanent.

Marvel won't get cancelled. It will just look completely different from this making it stick out even more.

The extreme garish artificialness of the new tower glaring behind the subtle architectural nuances of Buena Vista is simply visually offensive, and robs Buena Vista Street of it's validity.

But this is OK?

I don't disagree with any of your points as aspirational goals for WDI's designs, but as CC pointed out there are practical limits to what we should expect, particularly in a densely built property like DLR.

I disagree. If this cheap rush job of an overlay becomes the crown jewel of DCA, DCA is in trouble. Even if the Marvel expansion does not get cancelled and opens in 2020, I don't see how it changes anything. Does this mean that to get a coherent Marvel Land that we get more of the oil refinery treatment? And if not, then it's still ugly and sticking out like a sore thumb. The design they chose for the Tower creates a lose-lose situation IMO.

I don't think this is the best comparison to be honest. Park transportation that zooms by every few minutes? I've had an AP the last 3 years and I've maybe noticed it once. The way it's looking now. It ll be very hard not to notice the new tower.

I'm afraid you're right but I'm trying to stay optimistic.

I thought we were talking about theme and storytelling integrity. This was in response to "...subtle architectural nuances of Buena Vista is simply visually offensive, and robs Buena Vista Street of it's validity". In that context how is a midcentury monorail passing over the 1920s street in question not a reminder that you're in a theme park?

Oh. My bad. Didn't catch the first part of your convo.

EDIT: But even if that context... the monorail is minor compared to the tower looming in the background. Kind of off topic, but up until now I thought DCA did a great job with their transitions from land to land. Even better than Disneyland. But that is also because the DCA was originally themed to one state and is less fantasy based with lands that don't have such strong identities. Anyway I think the Marvel tower, at least for the time being is ruining that cohesion.

The monorail isn't a permanent part of Buena Vista street. The norm of the street doesn't have such a feature permanently seen. It's like pointing out a parade float on Main Street. Sure, Frozen doesn't fit the theme of Main Street, but we forgive such temporary intrusions since they are only for a few moments a day and not a permanent feature. Guardians will be seen 24/7 behind Carthay Circle.

Welcome to Marvel Land! Our unifying theme was largely based on the 1990s Microsoft screensaver.

Any chance they see how ugly this thing looks and decide to rethink the facade? I don't care if it's delayed another year. Take your time.

EDIT: Change the color scheme or at least mute those colors a bit. Let's rethink the pipes. @BrianLo brought up a good point, the bottom half of the tower does look better than the top (in the model at least) Unfortunately, it's the less important half.

I would have preferred Whimsical versus Industrial.

That is my biggest problem with this new attraction, the sightline issues.
Where is it visible then?

Whimsical industrial pretty much sums up what we're getting.
Where exactly is this visible from in the park? Isn't the shot with the Carthay taken from the airstrip? Carsland will be an issue, but it always has been. Trees could be a possible fix.

Wow, it actually looks pretty cool. I kinda wish it was more goldish like the renderings, but we shouldn't judge what it looks like as of now. For those who don't like this, suck it up, nothing was EVER going to change Disney's mind, even a day after announcement. If you don't like it, please don't continue your season pass or buy a ticket. I actually prefer when it's not that crowded (and im not outraged about this project) so it would be a win win for me.

I actually can't wait for this new ride, to be honest, Tower of Terror got boring as it was the same thing every single time (late check-in was awesome). I love the newer technology and it's supposed to be used in this ride, so it should be awesome. I always hear "Marvel (or Star Wars) isn't even Disney, Walt would be so upset!" I don't think this would be true, I think Walt would've always wanted to change stuff around. Marvel and Star Wars bring new awesome experiences to the parks, even if it wasn't originally Disney (suck it up, now it is..).

Now, open this darn ride already so I can ride it, then get excited about Star Wars Land and the rest of Marvel Land!
