Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout announced for Disney California Adventure

It's very boxy; even more boxy than the concept art and model. The original pieces had sections extending up and out in odd directions to give it a silhouette. The actual project has all of the color boxed within a dark purple square border. I didn't know it was possible to get cheaper looking than the concept model.
Although, I'm sure it's far from finished.

I'll withhold judgement, but two bad signs here:

1) I know they aren't finished but so far, the bottom of this "attached" pipe doesn't really look like it's going into the building.
2) The fact that they are painting lines right across a structural element rather than acknowledging the architecture is tacky. Hopefully that panel on the right will be covered up with more decorative stuff.

If you're a first timer...

When you look at the exterior of Haunted Mansion, you know you're in for a good haunted house attraction.
When you look at the exterior of Matterhorn/Big Thunder, you know you're in for a good roller coaster adventure.
When you look at the exterior of Indiana Jones, you know you're in for a thrilling experience.

What about this exterior tells the uninitiated to expect a rollicking GOTG adventure, besides the attraction sign?
It's alien. It's industrial. It's imposing.

Exactly what the attraction is.

Ironically this is the very first monumental Joe Rohde creation at Disneyland Resort. People aren't loving it either.

It isn't finished, but the boxed in nature vs the model isn't going to change. The structure is complete in terms of shape, all they have left is some paint work and pipes and such. It won't make the finished top have the silhouette from the model.
The DCA tower has always had a more awkward boxey look IMO. The concept art I think exaggerated the main shaft part's height compared to the lower part of the building.

I don't love the design so far but I'm not going to completely criticize it until it's done. I think the concept art does look cool, the model a bit less so (not as metalic and glowing), but I still like it. The problem for me is that it simply just looks like the ToT is wearing a shiny metal coat... not being able to ignore what the exterior used to look like is the main thing that I'll need to get over to appreciate the design.

I haven't had a pass in a couple of years but am planning on getting one soon... and when I give my money back to Disney, I will gladly stand there and pout while looking at this Tomorrowland 98: The Ride

Regardless of what the thing looks like, I'm sure the actual ride will be great though.

Seeing the concept artwork first, and then the real building directly after made me realize how not done this thing actually is. And that makes me worry that it won't be open in time for mid June.
Be honest though...would it being delayed really surprise you?

Two things I took away from the video:
1) there's an awful juxtaposition between this building and the lively "old Hollywood" streetmosphere.
2) the exposed section is done from what I can fathom since they already took down all the scaffolding. Maybe they ran into pipes-related budget cuts??

It wouldn't surprise me, but it would shatter my extremely fragile psyche and sever my timid grip on reality.

Guys, I think this is all going to be okay. I just showed my 9 year old what it's going to look like now as GOTG. (Disclaimer, while he loves GOTG, he was kind of disappointed to hear the TOT theme is going away because he likes Twilight Zone and never got to experience it.) I looked at him questioningly, he stared back with a blank look on his face and walked away to go back to his Indiana Jones video game.

After being on boards like this one for a very long time I can assure you that Disney will announce something new for people to freak out over after the MB panic subsides, if not before.
