DLR is mostly a locals park. Right now there is more locals than tourists. In the future that might be different but as of now it is the way it is.

As such using MagicBands with locals doesn't make sense because there is little to monetize around. No hotel room to tie charges back to, etc. So most of the system is useless at DLR.

Also WDW is the only resort to use them, no other resort will be getting them as they are going away from them. Shanghai Disneyland is also using the app and not the bands.
I know a lot of Orlando locals that use magic bands, it's just so convenient, even if you're a pass holder. For the hotel room charging, you could just link your credit card to your magic band. I just think this is a missed opportunity for Disney. The idea of free space from a tap point, easy and quick entrance, fast passed stored to your wrist, and etc. makes me drool.

I can't tell if they're trying too hard or not even trying. Whatever it is the Disneyland Resort finally has it's own toxic waste trash compactor to loom over Carthay Circle. Good job, Disney.

Lol. It is ugly. On a positive note, you can't see the tower from Carthay or Buena Vista Street or even Hollywood Blvd until you get to the corner of Hollywood/ Sunset.

Actually you can see it from Carthay Circle/Buena Vista Street if you're in front of the Starbucks and Clarabelle's. All the other views in those places are fortunately blocked but not that one.

Really? I thought you could only see it a little further back in Grizzly Peak Airfield.

Anyways I've been looking at some of the pictures of the towers without the walls and I think its pretty interesting that the gate/garden area looks kinda art deco inspired (art deco adjacent?). Nice little nod and I personally think the entire tower should've had this look

The lower area of the "tower" reminds me a lot of the game BIOSHOCK.

For some reason this makes more sense to me.

The percentage of locals in DLR vs WDW is not comparable. From what I understand its something like 75-85% locals in DLR vs 5-15% at WDW. Now those are guesstimates from discussions on forums like this. But I'm betting its close.

Point being is that WDW has a far larger tourist base than locals. Meaning that is more of an ability to monetize the MagicBands. I know that some on many forums I've read would like MagicBands for DLR because of the ease of FPs. But that system does not make sense for DLR because of less ability to monetize.

As for me personally the idea of MagicBands is interesting. But that app does the same exact thing for me. And I have no issue taking my phone out and scan it. I'm used to it because I store all my tickets there, from plane tickets to NFL season tickets to DLR AP, etc. So its quick and easy for me to swipe and in less than 3 seconds gain entrance. Its right there stored on my phone and accessible right on the lock screen.

So for me I don't see it as a missed opportunity as Disney has greater knowledge of their customers than we do. So while it might make sense to you to have MagicBands, it obviously doesn't make sense financially to Disney.

I'm taking it your not a fan? Putting my feelings about this project aside, I honestly have not been a fan of any of the color schemes and that includes this lighting package.

It's basically just a standard uplighting wash with some projections mixed in. I was expecting the lighting to be integrated into the structure in a creative way. I'm going to assume this isn't the final display we'll see when the ride opens.

I'm not sure. Just imagine people forgetting to have their fast pass ready on their phone, phone accidentally turning off, phone dimming automatically, and sometimes the app will even log you out. It's going to be terrible when they allow you to have fast passes on your phone, fast pass line will take forever to get into and probably cause back ups into the walk ways.

I like the open space that the WDW touch points provide, it would help in a crowded park like Disneyland to make more room for people and also makes the line way faster. I'm all for magic bands coming here, if you're here for one day you should get a alternative option to the magic band like maybe a cheaper band or bracelet with a RFID chip. This is a missed opportunity for Disney, especially with that money milking executive (that one guy everyone on here bashes, forgot his name sorry, bob chapek or something?), not only would people be paying money for Max pass if they wanted, magic bands and their little accessories that they sell now could make a lot of money.

It appears they've decided they can accomplish the same goals using mobile phones, and as a tourist I'm fine with phones over bands. What I'm not OK with is paying extra at Disneyland for what I can get for free at WDW.

The lighting looks too fruity, like a watermelon.

I will say this about the facade, however: My wife and I had a great time watching GotG Vol.2, laser projected, and the picture was so clear and crisp that I could see the make-up brush strokes that added a faint ridge of highlight on the edge Nebula's facial lines. And instantly, I thought, "Well, if major characters are just getting tromp l'oeil lines painted on them, why not the Tower?"

i was hoping for the same thing, all those added spires and props would have looked great with their own lighting package making them look like electricity was running thru them. I'm also surprise they don't take advantage of the large animation building to add a hidden projector on the roof that could occasionally project some stuff unto the tower facade.

Actually they should have done that prior, how awesome would it have been if they had projected the lightning and dropping elevator in the late evenings
