My issue isn't with suspending disbelief. If we couldn't do that, I don't think any of us would be the Disney parks fans we are. My main issue is that it just doesn't look good from almost everywhere in the park.

That's your opinion, to others it looks interesting and is intriguing.

One thing that we cannot debate is tastes, this look is just not to your taste... :)

Do you think Rohde knows how infamous the word "KABOOM" has become on the boards? I wonder if imagineers are in touch with the pulse of the Disney park Fan forums.

I bet he does. It's a great word to describe this project.

I don't think we can blame Imagineers, at least we can't put all the blame on them. Iger and his other money-hungry yes men are the culprits.

I agree we can't debate tastes. It's not really the look is not to my taste as much as it is that the look doesn't work well when viewing it from other areas in the park. Buena Vista St being the worst offender. IMO IMO IMO.

I agree. They re just following orders. But I do blame them for not at least steering this in a little better direction creatively. Surely, they could have done better than this. I don't think Chapek said "give it the ol TL 98 treatment and Pipes! I want a lot of pipes!"

And as others have said, ToT didn't work for them from other areas of the park. So its all about personal taste of what works for you in the sight lines.

I mean I don't think Iger required to be that ugly though

I agree. The Imagineers could have done a much better job designing this. The old building should have been torn down and the new one should have been built from scratch, in my opinion.

There's nothing in Rhode's interview that suggests "KABOOM!" relates to the origins of The Collector.

No one said that KABOOM! was a reference to the origin of The Collector himself, but rather the looks of the building representing who the Collector is:

"As Tower of Terror is overhauled into Mission: Breakout, the exterior is being altered from a 1930s-era hotel into an ornate sci-fi structure befitting the Collector, who Rohde described as “an arrogant, proud, glitzy kind of figure.” That’s raised eyebrows among some Disneyland aficionados, given the building no longer matches any of the setting around it in California Adventure, but Rohde said that was very much part of the intended scenario.

“The [Guardians] world terminates and terminates very abruptly,” said Rohde, regarding the building standout from its surroundings. “That’s part of the whole ‘kaboom’ of this."

. It bothers me that there is so much added to the front of the tower but the sides are completely bare.

Yep, I agree. I can kind of see why the back is lightly decorated but the lack of adornment on the sides is odd even for such an unusual building.

"KABOOM" is Rhode's excuse for this ride coming out of nowhere, as it makes no sense. What he said doesn't even make sense, like this project. "The Guardian world terminates abruptly...?" What does that even mean? What does that have to do with the building and its aesthetics appearing in Hollywood Land?

Rhode is obviously pulling things out of his behind to justify this project and how it looks. That's how I see it, at least. The building will always be hideous to me, no matter what the reason/excuse is.
