Because the Comicon crowd represents a teensy-tiny itty-bitty fraction of DL's customer base. Most people will adore Marvel in DCA. Most current guests have no clue what the Twilight Zone is and, even if they've ridden the tower, couldn't tell you the "story" for a million dollars.

So why cater to that teensy-tiny fraction by taking out an attraction that the majority of guests enjoy? I have no problem with Marvel in DCA, but this is not the way to do it. The relevancy of the IP doesn't really matter considering the ride still pulls 50-45 minute waits.

All I'm saying @mickEblu is that fans are a specific group, versus the general public, which isn't. Most people who go the parks might be bothered that a classic ride is changing, but they aren't likely to freak out over it the way that fans might.

Don't overlook the fact that they are replacing an attraction with a storyline based on IP that they don't own with one that they do. I'm assuming this is the main driver behind the decision and I'm also guessing that Disney has decided GoTG is a franchise that will receive long term investment.

I may have used the term general public loosely. My point was just that these aren't the "crazies" stomping their feet. The majority of causal DL fans do not seem to like this overlay.

I'm sure it'll do well, but I do believe the general public will eventually burn-out on the whole Superhero film genre -- at least in its current form--due to sheer oversaturation. Probably just in time for the grand opening of DCA's Marvelicious Avenue or whatever they end up calling it. I'm looking forward to hearing more about their plans for the area. Hopefully it'll be clever and fun even if the films wear out their welcome. I have to say, though, the out-of-context present design of "Breakout" (which would be more fun if it were based on the old Atari game) has me just a teensy bit worried...

Yeah, I agree and I don't think we're talking about decades either.
The writers seem to be heavily morphing the classic characters into corners of logic and belief systems if you will, that ultimately eat themselves.

Now Wonder Woman trailer came out over the weekend. But that's different - female - and will get a lot of attention, rightfully so. Looks pretty good too.

If that were the case, I would imagine that Orlando and Paris would get the overlay as well.

I wouldn't call a person using social media to share their dislike about a ride change at Disneyland a "casual DL fan".

I meant if the goal was to replace a licensed IP with their own the it would've been implemented across the board

Well the GoTG ride in Orlando is just a rumor. Who knows, maybe the Great Movie Ride is on the chopping block. :D:D:D

Why not? Just because someone shares a post or comments / likes something doesn't make them a hardcore fan, it just means they re interested or have an opinion on something. And IMO most of social media reactions are coming from a casual fan. There's not that many of us in the grand scheme of things that spend all day discussing the nuances of a theme park. We get lumped into the crowd that complains about all change. But that's not what's happening here.

These fans on social media are DL s audience. The people that should be getting excited about this announcement like most people (causal fans) did for Star Wars Land. Just because they are commenting on social media doesn't put them in the non causal camp of fans.

I have one cousin who takes her two daughters to DLR once a year. She never posts or talks about anything Disney unless it's pictures from her visit. Today she actually signed and shared a petition online because itts one of her families favorite rides. (Something that I haven't even done) Sometimes people react to something because something means something to them.

Let me ask you. Forget these boards, but from what you ve seen on social media and heard on the news do you think most people are in favor of this change or not? Forget the casual / hardcore labels.

IMO a quick unbiased survey of soft core , medium core , hard core , semi hardcore and any other label we could give DL fans would show that the good majority are against this change.
