The story is nearly non-existent.

Unless it reads better in person, the projected footage presents like a first draft storyboard. In particular, the introduction of Eson seems rushed. There's generic "galaxy" filler scenes where additional context or exposition could be added. In particular, there's a scene in which we orbit around some planet or moon for an extended awe-inspiring moment and while visually interesting provides nothing in the story's context. Seems a wasted opportunity to spar with Eson one final time or showcase some larger battle. Overall, the scenes are few and far-between with the story aspect being secondary to the music. Unfortunate.

The comparisons to RnRC tell all.

Why not have a three dimensional Eson head instead of the planet?

I agree with this, although the lengthy pre-show will probably grow tedious pretty fast.

RotR does a really good job of blurring the line between ride, pre-show and queue. It's all one continuous experience once you get to the Rey hologram.

CR has so much exposition to deliver that it's awkward to stand in one or two rooms and listen to it all played on some screens.

I find the same with Hagrids. I love that ride by the way as it's 'fun'. However as it keeps being brought up in this thread how would it stand up 'story wise' if analyzed? I mean he mumbles a few things about going out for a ride before we see that animatronic that's obviously on a stick, but what's the story? Why when his bike loses power does it go backwards, surely it would just fall down?

I love Hagrids but using the same way of judging it, it makes little sense or explains very little? It doesn't really need to though because it's fun.

Also Hagrid's cost $300 to build, that's the same price as 3 Harry Potter movies being selective. Of course that's irrelevant but if judging on these issues is important to some, there it is!!!!!!!!!!!! The price of 3 movies. I wonder what the stick animatronic cost?

Hagrid’s ride doesn’t try to set up a complex plot. GotG does. It doesn’t need to - as I’ve said, a much simpler plot could have cut down on the very lengthy preshows and, if done well, provided a stronger emotional through-line.

If you emphasize plot, you get judged on plot.

Also, your math is way off. The later Potters cost about $200 each. And in any case, the budget is much more in evidence at Hagrids (it’s also 66% of GotG).

$300 is a bargain! Those movies must've been cheap

The comparison to Hagrid's is an interesting one and shows how this ride seems to be way overthought in development. The best rides make sense on their face more simply. And they make sense in their location. All of the best themed coasters in Orlando succeed here. The Hagrid's story is simple and clear (though the title is a bit overthought). I remember thinking that and how it was a clever theme on my first ride. Same can be said for EE, RnRC, SM, BTMRR and the redone Hulk. Maybe Slinky and 7DMT, though they may be a bit too simple for their own good.

The one that comes to mind is actually Mummy, where the story and setting didn't quite mesh well.

This "story" coaster feels a bit like overdone fan fiction. Less (which actually understood its setting) could have been much, much more. And made both the attraction (which seems solid enough) and story feel more compelling.

Speculating here but could it be because the attraction is in-universe and takes place after the events of the upcoming movie? Maybe John C Reilly's character dies in Guardians of the Galaxy 3?

They've said all Marvel content in the parks takes place in an alternative universe so things that happen in the official MCU can be ignored if they want.
