They've already had Guardians meet-and-greets with face characters. There was a Starlord (face) & Baby Groot (animatronic) M&G at Hollywood Studios back in 2017/18 when Guardians 2 came out. The Universal license only includes the major characters like Spider-Man, Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, etc. (or minor characters who are primarily associated with one of those). At the time Universal licensed the Marvel characters, the Guardians were pretty much unknown outside of comic fans, so they're not covered by the Universal license and Disney is free to use them on the east coast.

I guess this is why Disney attractions take 3-5 years to build... imagine every set going together at this kind of schedule/pace.

But Star Tours had a 'behind the movie magic' theme too... same reason the AT-AT and ewok village had sides were intentionally left open and exposed.

It still had the Movie studio setting.. abit a horrible one. Still had the backlot tour, etc. Of course now it's just 'grab bag', but they did take the movie studios schtick when they opened it.

Star Tours is in Discoveryland in the main park.
It's scheduled to open April 1.
