Do we know if it’s possible we get Starlord and Gamora as face characters in WDW eventually? I doubt it since the ride got built, but there’s no issues with Universal?

They did have a stage show in EPCOT around the time the last movie was released. Do not be surprised if they show up again when the
ride is opened. Covid affected the Guardians, the Streetmosphere people at DHS, as well as, every other characters meet and greet. I am
pretty sure it will all come back in time.

But those accidents likely could have been avoided with simple tie downs, my understanding is planes flip like that because the air gets under the wings and picks them off the ground, not because the wind hits them sideways and rolls them.

The way the “wings” are set up on the Guardians ship is much closer to a sailboat than an airplane. Lateral forces rather than horizontal forces.
Look at the photos. The planes aren’t sitting flat. They’re angled all sorts of ways making their wings a big surface to be hit with wind.

They've already had Guardians meet-and-greets with face characters. There was a Starlord (face) & Baby Groot (animatronic) M&G at Hollywood Studios back in 2017/18 when Guardians 2 came out. The Universal license only includes the major characters like Spider-Man, Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, etc. (or minor characters who are primarily associated with one of those). At the time Universal licensed the Marvel characters, the Guardians were pretty much unknown outside of comic fans, so they're not covered by the Universal license and Disney is free to use them on the east coast.

The X-wing that used to be at the Paris Star Tours entrance was on a clearly visible support. This reminds me a bit of that.

For other's reference:

The same ship is now docked on top of the Starport building (currently meet 'n greet space)
