Hey @marni1971 , didn't see it on your video of the Universe of Energy, though I may have missed it, but do you have any imagery of the old Exxon lounge in the building? I heard it was closed up after Exxon's sponsorship ended and eventually just converted to office or storage space.

I used to have a few but don't know where they went sadly. And annoyingly. Edit. Think I've found them.

I'm more interested in the upstairs lounge that was closed long ago for my new edit.

Any Energy CMs who fancy Anonymously helping out please PM me before it's too late!

I'm not talking about Universal whose IoA park wasn't drawing people, Uni adding Harry Potter is like AK adding Avatar, both places needed a big draw, but Epcot has always been a big draw, it's generally in the top 5 of theme park attendance in the world even now in it's current state... and no offence by your "by the numbers" rational is the root of the problem I'm talking about, I think the need more artists and less accountants planning their rides

And it's not like they incapable of doing it either, the lobby of the new Art of Animation hotel looks very modern and Epcot-esque to me

And Energy is such a simple theme, all energy come from some type of atomic reaction, so all they would need for a ride is some combination of the concept from to old Disneyland "Adventure Through Inner Space", shrinking people down the size of an atom, and add in some Disneyland Paris roller coaster tech like their version Space Mt, Rock n' Roller-coaster, and/or the Crush-coaster... so basically a high speed thrill ride through images from electron microscopes would do the trick...

and they could simulate the same kinds of imagery if they hired some one like this artist Bill Munro, who makes sculptures with fiber optic lights

so my point is... it took me all of 20 minutes to come up with stuff that fits the the theme of Epcot's Future World and the Energy pavilion... this ain't that hard if you bother to try
It looks very 1990's and All Star-esque to me.

Perhaps I misunderstood what my people meant or what Epcot plans were being referred to.

Suffice to say, I have little faith in construction schedules and timetables anymore. They can't get their act together with ROC, avatar is behind - moving at a glacial speed since it was announced - SWL really isn't moving yet, and TSL seems equally stalled.

That's four major projects that they can't seem to get their act together with. I just can't reasonably see Epcot getting the needed love with the way they're doing things right now.
I agree completely...nice to announce projects but when it takes 5 or more years for them to come to fruition, all the excitement of the initial announcement is long gone and all that is left is annoyance at how slowly the project has moved...and then when it is something as uninspired as Toy Story Land it makes the neverending timelines seem even more ridiculous... You would think by now the entire TSL area whould be leveled, scraped and footers going in...especially since it is just a coaster and a flat ride...

Let's not forget that one of the principal actors in AE was Jeffery Jones. He was arrested and convicted as a sexual offender against children in 2003. The story generated a lot of bad press for Disney. AE closed in October, 2003. Coincidence?

I will always believe this is the main reason for the attractions closure. Alien Encounter operated for years, and if so many people complained about the attraction being as scary as it was, then it would have closed earlier.

All above grade. Very little digging need. And they announced this little beauty 11 months ago!

agree completely, but we also put ourselves in this situation by following these forums. A "Normal" person wouldn't even know something is coming for at least a few more years. And they also don't realize when it does come that it could have been better but was cut back early in the process.

Well...this was fairly well publicized as a big major new addition...not something discussed in the message boards only... if we are talking about something that didnt have a huge press release announcement, ok, but when you make an announcement, they should be seen to actually be doing something... California is off and running... but at WDW it is slow as molasses...

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that AE closed the day after Jeffery Jones was arrested.

Indeed, they had eight years of complaints and then suddenly Disney decided that the complainers were right. But some people buy that excuse because they're fond of rejecting reality and substituting their own fantasy version. It happens a lot with some fans.

I think he does it the worst. From what I've seen of Ratatouille it doesn't have any of the things that help immerse you in the onscreen action. Even from video I can tell there's no motion and you just sit there in front of them. To those who have ridden it are there any effects like wind, smells, etc.?

I can't remember if there are wind effects (been nearly 9 months since I rode it), but there are definitely smells in the ride.

None of that excuses Disney's actions. Its 11 months after they made an announcement and we've barely seen dirt move.
