I guess so, but it was a mixed blessing. It worked for the first dozen years or so but may have hurt in the long run.
Not really. All Disney had to do was either a continuing doing sponsorships that work better for the sponsor, or Disney just kept the park in tip top shape.
It's a theme park -- remember that it still makes a ton of money. It's not a non-profit. It's only Disney to blame.

Disney is by no means blameless.

Disney has built sponsored attractions since day 1. Its the only way to finance enormous projects. Epcot would never get built nowadays due to lack of interested sponsors.
True, but today's Walt Disney Company has obscene amounts of money that they did not have in 1982

Free soda and air-conditioning?
No.
All guests at the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow have the opportunity and power to control an aspect of the park; from designing fuel for automobiles of tomorrow to participating in park polls, and beyond. From now on, citizens of E.P.C.O.T. can truly live in a "great, big, beautiful tomorrow."

According to W.D.W. News Today, Jared Leto has officially been linked to a new TRON movie with Disney.... What would a TRON attraction have to be to fit into Future World?? I like the coaster idea, but I don't know what the narrative would have to be to make sense in FW.

Furthermore, we all see that IPs will drive the next wave of construction at Epcot- what IPs do you feel could enhance the mission of FW with an appropriate attraction?

I wouldn't mind Tron in Future World, but I feel that IP is best suited for Tomorrowland. And judging by a few comments from insiders here and there on these boards, upper management feels the same.

I do think Inside Out would be a great addition to the park. It has a unique feel that lends itself well to Epcot. That being said, I am not in favor of it replacing Figment. I'd love it as an addition somewhere else in the park. I'd also LOVE to see Inner Workings (the animated short preceding Moana) have a presence. It fits the retro 80's vibe perfectly.

Ive only seen Horizons on YouTube, def loved it tho! They should have kept it. Im sure its been discussed a million times but what was the reason for closing Horizons?
I skipped 2 pages so sorry if this was reported already. But I saw research that it was because of structural concerns. Something about a developing sinkhole and the building had to be demo'd. When they built Mission Space, lots of attention was paid to that specific area to secure the new building.

Is there any relationship between the Sponsorship Model of the past compared to the IP Model of today? The sponsorship model relied on an outside brand/company to pay Disney for Impressions and Engagement resulting in future sales of it's product. Today, Disney "pays itself" for the Impressions and Engagement resulting in futures sales of it's IP (merch, movies, rentals, streaming, etc) - it's the economical circle of life. Am I off?

So instead of GM sponsoring a ride about GM cars in a fun environment, we now get (rumored) get a Rat sponsoring a ride about a restaurant kitchen in France in a fun environment. Kinda the same approach, but one is a non-Disney entity and the other is a Disney film (okay, I'll say it...IP).

Please no!

There was no sinkhole. It was due to sponsorship.
