I'm really gonna miss that ride as well. So funny and a great way to educate about energy. I feel like Disney is slowly removing the edutainment purpose from Epcot. First the Frozen ride, now this. They are removing the educational value from these rides . In my opinion, they should've just given renovations.
What Educational value did Maelstrom have?

While I want to agree with you, do you have any idea why Walt made the castle at Disneyland Sleeping Beauty's? Synergy. Sleeping Beauty was originally scheduled to come out in 1955 when the park opened. It got delayed until 1959. Disneyland was filled with synergy from Day 1.
It is not at all the same sort of synergy. Much of what is called "synergy" from the first decade of Disneyland was more a reflection of Walt's focus and attention. The decision to bestow the Sleeping Beauty moniker was also quite late. That is worlds different than nearly every decision revolving around box office performance and merchandise sales.

I agree and don't like the way virtually every theme park (Disney and Universal) are headed where everything is based on the big blockbusters of the time or creating themed lands. I much prefer the Disneyland style way where there's individual lands with different rides spread throughout.

I don't remember much of the plot, but is there any way they could tie in the theme of Energy with GotG? Even if it is vague, that's my only hope because then the story of Epcot isn't completely lost just distorted. Anyone have any ideas on what this attraction could even look like? All I picture is Transformers the Ride at Universal.

How long before EPCOT gets a new name? Maybe Bob's Party Place?
How about Disney Quest (after the original closes)? Or maybe just a symbol: $

The future of the park formerly known as EPCOT will be filled with princess rides (World Showcase) and, in Future World, dystopian IP tie-ins that stress the vital social importance of solving the world's problems through the use of violence.

Wake up DisCo. You are feeding the wrong wolf.

I sit here and I keep asking my self why? I know why I know the park needs an influx of money and new content desperately. I have been preaching for years how I would handle this park and this is just not what I wanted to see. I wanted the original EPCOT not the walt vision but the one that opened to continue in some form. It looks like that won't happen and that is sad!

Now do I think this new ride and attraction will be amazing yes I do, do I think it will be well worth the trip to the park to see yes.... It just to me should not be in this park...

With that being said I hope they then get a theme for the park that flows properly and not just a mis match of ideas and crap all over the place... This year when we went to Epcot it was depressing... first time I did not go during the Flower Show.... so this park really really needs help!

but wouldn't this all fit better in Tomorrowland? When was the last time Tomorrowland got a real true new attraction? Monsters Inc Doesn't fit tomorrowland, neither does Stitch... Neither does the Indy Speedway...There is plenty of room for something amazing and new right there, that would not fight the mission statement and theme of the entire park...

There's a big 'ole mountain of space sitting there, needing big refurbishment, right along side (to the north) is a lot of empty, and next to that is some sort of 'ride' powered by early 20th century 'technology'. There is a Big Future possible in Tomorrowland

Looking at the sight balloons, the 'building' looks to be HUGE and TALL...could it be possible that it could be a MOUNTAIN of some sort? Not a Star Wars type, but just saying from observing picture of sight balloons...UNLESS the attractions will be a ROLLER COASTER type, that could explain the height of the balloons!? Any thoughts from those that know a little more!?

Any photos yet of the actual site balloons?

There are no plans for "mountains".

I seriously wonder how Tomorrowland would have been received had it been released this summer instead of last.
I think being delayed took a lot of wind out of its sails already. Like it was originally supposed to be a Christmas 2014 thing, but got shuffled around because of Star Wars not being able to make the traditional May slot. Widening the gap between film and viral campaign (The Optimist) and never doing any followup didn't do the film any favors.

Isn't the Walt vision the original one. I think the other one was plan B after Walt passed.

I completely agree that EPCOT is not the place for this kind of ride. When EPCOT opened it was supposed to be about educating people about ideas of the future, and the nations of the world through fun and entertaining experiences. I feel that it should stay this way. I also feel that the park needs a new major attraction. However, it should be one that continues this theme and the same vision that the company had when the park opened.
