As I've tried to hint it is far beyond that.

then I owe you my apology. I never doubted your knowledge its just that I've been burnt before looking forward to stuff like Mysterious Island coming to DAK, Journey into Imagination getting a big refurb that would restore it to its original glory, Frontierland getting a new E-ticket & major overhaul, and Tomorrow's Child being reinstated at Spaceship Earth that I've become a bit of a cynic.

No worries. Plans change. I'll believe this when I see the walls actually go up. But right now it's moving forward. There's been at least two revisions that I know of.

This is WDW - no benches.
I know this had always been a big topic of conversation here, but I never fully realized how drastic the bench removal has gotten until I went to Disneyland just recently. I mean, even just today (my first day back at WDW since going to DL) I noticed that they took away the benches that were outside the City Hall restrooms during the recent refurb (those restrooms look great, btw).

In Disney World, everyone drives their own private motorized benches it seems like. So TDO figured, why bother?

Maybe like Hollywood Studios getting a new name (eventually), Epcot will get one too?? I welcome change.
People say you are messing with originals, blah blah. But yet those same people complain because there is nothing new.
Personally with what I have seen with the new Pirates in Shanghai, I would welcome them tearing down Pirates and rebuilding with the latest and greatest tech. Disney was all about Imagineering and pushing the limits. Why do we have to keep the old attractions? Why can't they be brought to the standards of others.
Look what they did to HyperSpace Mountain in Cali. We rode it in January and were completely blown away by adding new tech into an old attraction. But did TDO do it? Nope.
You have to spend money to make money.

I think you are missing what everyone is saying. I think all you say above can be achieved very easily within the theme that was built in 1982. Bring in IPs if you have to, just try to keep with the theme that Epcot Center was originally built for!

I'm really gonna miss that ride as well. So funny and a great way to educate about energy. I feel like Disney is slowly removing the edutainment purpose from Epcot. First the Frozen ride, now this. They are removing the educational value from these rides . In my opinion, they should've just given renovations.

I feel like Epcot was founded on being this type of educational theme park. Educating guests on future technologies, the body and health, the land, the seas, space, history, science, countries and their different cultures. And imagination somehow fits perfectly too don't know how but it feels right.

I guess the current Epcot mission statement has been worn out. I'm all for a GOTG attraction. Armchair imagineering for a second I think replacing Stitch and Laugh Floor in Tomorrowland would make more sense. I think GOTG would fit perfectly within that area of MK.

I get what WDI is thinking they are in a tough spot trying to come up with new attractions to bring people in and they want to use big block buster franchises as the selling point for them.
Imagination works because without it we wouldn't have people dreaming up a better future.

"One little spark, of inspiration
Is at the heart, of all creation.
Right at the start, of everything that's new.
One little spark, lights up for you."

Unless someone else is paying Disney currently will pretty much only to franchise-based attractions regardless of the park's history or theme. This is why there is so much dismay regarding this concept.
I had a thought. I wonder if Disney is using the films to help pay for the attractions. In other words, GoTG is now the sponsor instead of Exxon. Frozen is now the sponsor instead of investors from Norway. Perhaps that is how this park will proceed in the future!

but wouldn't this all fit better in Tomorrowland? When was the last time Tomorrowland got a real true new attraction? Monsters Inc Doesn't fit tomorrowland, neither does Stitch... Neither does the Indy Speedway...There is plenty of room for something amazing and new right there, that would not fight the mission statement and theme of the entire park...

I agree completely. The GOTG ride would fit much better in Tomorrowland. Stitch needs to close at some point. In my opinion, it's the weakest attraction in any of the 4 parks.

Who's really behind these decisions? Like is it a person or a group of people?

Any chance that this change might honor Epcot in a good way? Should we really dread this or is it going to be okay?

Good in that it's a new attraction for an area that desperately needs it.

Bad in the sense that Epcot as we knew it is really no more.

If it is to be dreaded or welcomed may vary from person to person.

Yeah, nice quote. Pity you have no idea what Walt was talking about.

Let me try to clarify it for you. He was talking about INNOVATIVE, NEW, ORIGINAL, IMAGINATIVE IDEAS. Not jamming somebody else's dopey third-rate creation in a park where it doesn't belong. That's not "new" and it's got nothing to do with curiosity. It's just lazy, insipid, greedy and cynical. Everything Walt did NOT stand for.
While I want to agree with you, do you have any idea why Walt made the castle at Disneyland Sleeping Beauty's? Synergy. Sleeping Beauty was originally scheduled to come out in 1955 when the park opened. It got delayed until 1959. Disneyland was filled with synergy from Day 1.
