but wouldn't this all fit better in Tomorrowland?

... Just like frozen would have been a better fit in the MK, too... But really, the last thing Disney needs right now is to give guests more reason to go to the MK rather than their other three parks. Epcot in contrast, has plenty of wide open space for crowds to move around (especially in future world) and the results of long-term neglect are finally starting to show in a way that management cares about.

Had the company actually maintained and updated the other three parks over the years, it may never have come to this but I see why they're doing this stuff (scifi in an animal park, a studios park that's becoming who knows what and an educational park that's going the way of the Learning Channel*).

Don't agree with it, see it as a problem of management's own making but after creating the problem, how do they fix it?

Short of renaming the other three parks Magic Kingdom Overflow 1, 2, and 3, what do they do?

*If you've checked out what's on this channel lately, you'll understand what I mean.

A little of topic, but if Epcot does completely gut out Ellen's Energy Adventure for Guardians of the Galaxy, wouldn't you think they would reuse the Dinosaurs from the ride in Animal Kingdom or construct a primeval world on the railroad in Magic Kingdom like at Disneyland with those animatronics.

The theater preshow at imagination was a ten minute Kodak commercial. The first circle theater at Living seas was a slideshow for United Technologies. Some pavilions were better than others as far as feeling like giant ads for non-Disney entities, but if you go way back to concept, those companies had a lot of say over what the imagineers were actually able to include or focus on (look at what the Land pavilion could have been had Kraft simply put their name on it.)

Just wanted to highlight this...replacing sponsor IP with Disney IP isn't adding IP to Epcot, it's just changing it's source. The focus should really be on the swap from Edutainment to just Entertainment. The IP discussion is kinda moot.

Technically speaking everything in EPCOT Center was Disney owned IP.* It just wasn't characters from the latest blockbuster movies or franchises.

*Spaceship Earth, Horizons, Imagination, etc.

All owned by Disney.

LOL...very true. I just meant that this insane 'pure EPCOT Theme' discussion is generally centered around IP. But Sponsorship has always been at the core of Epcot/EPCOT and changing a Kodak commercial for a Disney commercial is a change in source but not method. The change in method is removing Educational elements from the Entertainment elements. Which may or may not change the Theme of Future World.

I understand the consternation, but I think the focus of the complaints and outrage at disney should be on the eliminating/lack of update to the Education, not the IP. I don't think anyone will get anywhere with TWDC by complaining about a change in sponsorship.

It's also about moving away from creating original ideas to explain the concepts of the park and forcing in whats new and hot from the studio.

I am not disagreeing with your central education/entertainment argument, but I would like to point out that the "sponsorship" issue is actually quite related. While the initial reliance on sponsors was undoubtedly for financial reasons, there was also the added benefit that part of the purpose of the park was to showcase the ways that we were moving forward and that American industry was leading the way.

A company like Bell/AT&T could put their name on Spaceship Earth while at the same time making a case that they are a leader in improving human communication and advancing connectivity. On the other hand, Finding Nemo can have its name put on the Seas pavilion and help sell some plush, but that's where it ends.

We didn't listen. That's why this year is so screwed up

Interesting clip. It really does define how the current leadership look at Epcot. As long as the money keeps rolling in, they do not need to define a consistent theme to Epcot. No wonder why we have a growing number of attention deficit people in this world. Our approach to everything we do bombards us with shiny flashy things all over the place. It doesn't help anyone keep their mind organized and focused.

This entire thing is just so stupid. They've got a whole movie-themed park right next door that needs as many new attractions as it can get and is a completely appropriate place for a GotG ride. Hardly anyone would be complaining if they just built a new ride there. I'm at least glad our ToT is safe, but seriously, who keeps making these bone-headed decisions?

Well, I think that movie theme/name is going away.
