Someone just asked me if I ever wanted to go somewhere else. Of course. There's a whole world out there. I've seen a lot of it. I plan on seeing more. WDW is not my only destination, but it is my favorite. We plan on going at least twice a year until DS is old enough for some different trips. Even then WDW will be a part of our lives at least once a year.
we are now friends! 27 y/o with a 20 month old. i live for God and family, outside of that is sports (cowboys, yankees) and all things disney. most people would look at my tattoos and think "disney, really?"
I'm 55, and hear similar comments from folks. Same with 'Why do you go back there all the time? So, I started asking folks where they like to vacation. I hear things like 'Oh, I just love the beach'. I'll ask them how often they get there, and they usually say something like 'as much as I can'. With a small smirk on my face I ask them 'Why? Its sand, its water, its the same thing all the time'. Then they get defensive, telling me 'I love everything about it...the sounds, the smells, its so relaxing, I just forget about everything else'. At that point I let the smirk get a bit bigger, then ask them 'What was it you asked me again?'. You can actually see the light bulb go on, followed by a sheepish 'Oh, I see your point'.
Some people get it, some people don't. Has nothing to do with being 'grown up' (whatever that means). Some folks only feel good if they can put someone else down. Just give them the smirk, and make another trip to the Dole Whip stand.

LOL I have had VERY similar conversations.
I have friends that spend $5K for a couple to spend a week on a beach. I'm like...hmm, I could turn that into two week-long Disney trips, and have some extra left over.
A beach vacation is the most boring thing I could imagine. I like the water, I like living near it, but I just cannot fathom (pun intended) people that pay a week to lay on a beach. All I can think of is skin cancer LOL, and if forced on one I'd be under an umbrella reading all day, wishing I was reading at home.
It's such different strokes for different folks, but I have to say it's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels similarly.![]()
oh i get that, eventhough i've only ever been 4 times in my life. 'wouldn't you rather go somewhere else?' 'why is disney so interesting to you?' 'don't you get bored?'
but none of them have ever been, and they don't 'get' disney.
i also get ridiculed because i'm a bit of a geek: i like computers, i like sci fi, i like lego, i like disney, i like south park, i like american dad, i like watching disney films. nerd, geek, whatever.
most of the people who ridicule me though are those who sit and home, moaning about their husbands who have no friends, and watch soap operas. i'd take my quirky life over theirs any day.
actually i had that statement said by someone today; 'but disneys just for kids...' it's very sad that people can be so closed minded.
Yay for you:sohappy: A friend of mine was just surprised by her husband with a romantic adult trip .. I was jealousBeing a 39 year old male I get similar reactions from people. Its ok though. My wife and I will be taking our first every child free trip and I cant wait. Everyone looked at me funny when I told them the kids were not going this trip.
Everyone has the idea Disney is just all about the rides and getting to see Mickey Mouse. Its way more than that.
