Great Movie Ride and the apparent lack of Kubrick

My wife and I see exactly one problem with this ride... It had two creators. One was focused on Classic Genres, one was focused on current hit films.

The second creator likely got fired years ago... there are no "hit films" in 2014 that were "hit films" in 1978.

If this ride is not simply demolished.... it's about time to loose Mary Poppins, and replace her with a third genre film of 1928.
It's about time to ditch Indiana Jones - and replace it with "Adventure Films"
It's about time to loose Alien - and replace it with "Sci Fi Films of the '50s"
It's about time for Tarzan to just take a walk.
Gee - more space.... how about "Films by Disney"? You DO own the Park, right? Snow White? Cinderella? Pinocchio? Sleeping Beauty? Where are your CLASSICS?

This ride is VERY good - it could be far BETTER, if someone would focus on the GENRE of film, and loose the "what's hot in 1975" issue.

And Mary Poppins isn't a classic? Fie on you!

But Poppins needs a much better scene. The one that's there is VERY cheezy.

I agree about ditching Tarzan and Alien. I suggest keeping the jungle part of the former and building a simple but effective King Kong AA. Just the head and shoulders. The scenario would be: the ride car pauses in the middle of an innocuous jungle. The tour guide says, "Hmm, wonder what's going on here? What's the big deal about a jungle?" and then the trees part and Kong's huge head appears and he roars and the guide says, "Oh, THAT'S the big deal! It's King Kong! Let's get out of here!" or some such.

And the Alien bit should be replaced by Ghostbusters.

The REALLY cheezy Fantasia portion (wow, what a tribute, LAME) should be replaced with the pre-Oz cyclone, as was originally planned. Christ, TDO, spend some money for a change, will you?

And the film clips should be upgraded to digital stock. They look awful.

But NO "The Shining" or any other R-rated film should ever be part of the GMR. It's a FAMILY ride. Let's keep it that way.

I know Alien also isn't quite among the greatest films of all time, but it's still an iconic movie, and I think the scene should stay. It's still creepy and effective, and I get shivers every time I hear the alarm and "Danger: the emergency destruct system is now active".

- why would you want a film from 1928? The ride only needs a nod to that era and nothing more, nothing from that period can compete for "greatest movies of all time"
- ditch Indiana Jones? That absolutely does belong on the ride, it IS a great movie and one of the most iconic of all time.
- The rest of Walt Disney World is for "Disney", let the Great Movie Ride represent classic Hollywood like it should and leave Disney stuff out of it.

Again - I absolutely LOVE Mary Poppins... but she does not belong in 1928 - 1938 with Footlight Parade and Singing in the rain. Last time I looked, Disney OWNED this park - I strongly believe MP should exist, and go into the fairly LARGE "Disney Classics" room. Where is Snow White? Where is Pinocchio? Where is Sleeping Beauty? Where is Cinderella? I would love to see a really GOOD room that recognizes Walt...

The Movie Ride isn't arranged chronologically, though.

I'm not too hot on the idea of changing things, BUT if we're throwing ideas around...

It would be kind of neat for the Tarzan room to somehow be changed into a representation of this scene from Bravehart:

There's probably not enough space to work with, but you could so some really interesting stuff with a really high-banked hill with lots of static or nearly-static soldier figures on the high side and an A-100 Mel Gibson figure on the other, down low. If they really wanted a showstopper the Gibson figure's horse would be on a rolling platform that would move back and forth in a trench. The horse's legs wouldn't be able to move, of course, but another row of static or nearly-static soldier figures could block the riders' view of the bottom half of the "horse" and the motion trench.

...then again, tying ones fortunes to Mel Gibson may not be the smartest course of action for any entertainment company these days...

I think the monolith scene from 2001 or the "I'm Spartacus!" scene from err... Spartacus are both could be nice additions to the attraction that represent Kubrick's work. I wouldn't want to lose Alien for those scenes however. Footlight Parade or Fantasia I wouldn't miss though.

I like the idea of the monkeys/monolith scene. Replace the redundant Indiana Jones scene with that.

I've always thought it would be awesome to have an entire theme park with attractions for films such as Kong, Ghostbusters, or Psycho. Rather than a small jungle scene, could you imagine an entire ride-thru attraction of Kong attacking New York City? Have guests in trams of some sort, and make the attraction where they are in the heart of all the action; being stalked by Kong himself among all the wreckage. Instead of just the head & shoulders of Kong, use an entire AA figure of the beast hanging from a bridge, or better yet, make it appear as if he grabs the tram itself!

Ghostbusters & Psycho would make excellent opportunities for interactive 3D shows; putting guests into the stories themselves.

I know I'm just dreaming, but you never know, it could happen one day.

You are seriously suggesting building an attraction around Psycho. In a Disney park.

I hope you're kidding...

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I realize that any theme park would need to be completely insane to build or promote anything remotely associated with Mel Gibson.

I'd actually love to see some Hitch in GMR, considering how many of his A-list movies were either made by or are now controlled by Universal, doubt it'd happen.

With no disrespect to Kubrick lovers or Casablanca lovers or Wizard of Oz lovers or any other filmmakers, now that Disney MGM Studios is just Disney Hollywood studios, maybe there's something to be said about converting TGMR to TGDMR - The Great Disney Movie Ride, make it a history of Disney movies only. I know there's the walk-through museum-style history of Walt that includes movies as well as TV and theme parks and innovations used in the movies, but this would just be great moments from Disney movies.

OK, now that Lucas is in the fold, keep Indiana Jones.
