Good Breakfast Bars?

Anyone know of a good breakfast bar? We grab one in the morning in our room before setting off to the parks. We've tried Quaker Oatmeal to Go, Quaker Chewy Granola bars, Special K and Nutrigrain - there hasn't been one that doesn't leave you starving in a few hours. I even tried the new Quaker ones with the extra protein, thinking they would last longer but by 9:00 my stomach was growling. My DH doesn't care for "sticks and tasteless" either so one of the more natural ones won't work - just wondering if any of you have had good luck with a particular one. THANKS FOR ANY INPUT!:)

The EAS Myoplex "Chocolate Crisp" bars are EXCELLENT! My wife eats the mint/cookie Pria bars......she goes through 2-3 a day. It must be working, she's down to a size ZERO!
Her best assets, have vanished.....if you know what I mean!

That happened to me once. I accused my wife of divorcing me through diet, since I no longer had as much wife as I had married. :ROFLOL:

On the plus size, she actually went out in public in a bikini :) (In fact, it was at River Country, so you know that's been a while)

She got over it and I got all the wife I married :)

We now return you to your scheduled discussion of breakfast bars. I find the ones made by Krispy Kreme to be the best :)

Kashi

We take the Kashi bars. My favorite is the Oatmeal Raisin. You have to get these by the protein bars, not by the cereal. (They are the only protein bar that doesn't taste like one) Only half of one would last me until lunch.:slurp:

Clif bars. Organic. Heavy, like a lump of cement! But in a good way.

Another vote for Clif bars. Brown rice syrup, and fiber. Like a mass of concrete in your gut :)

Just a quick look at the ones around my house shows 230 to 240 calories, 40 - 47 g of carbs, 10g of protien and 5 g of fiber

I dont eat them at WDW (I eat breakfast) but when I hike lunch consists of a Cliff bar and some fruit. I take an extra one or two just in case.

Best place I have found to get them individualy is Trader Joe's @ 99 cents each.

You can get them in bulk cheaper on line, but then you have to buy a dozen of the same flavor.

Entemann's are good fruit cereal bars. MMM...good! That and a piece of fruit. Bananas are filling and provide a appetite filler plus they are really good for you. Less sugary than most fruits, IMO. I read somewhere a really long time ago that the extra potassium helps with "happy enzymes" there is not a better place on earth for a few extra happiness enzymes than the happiest place on earth! If you will not have a car hit the food court in the off hours to pick up few for the mornings with out the crowds.

I personally like Pria bars. The sell a variety pack with 3 or 4 kinds in them. They do a pretty good job filling you up and don't give you that sugar drop you get from most high carb bars. I do suggest that if you want to feel full you need to look for something that has a good balance of carbs and protien. The balance of carbs and protiens keeps you from that mid to late morning sugar drop which is what makes you feel hungry. High carbs will spike your sugar levels and then they drop after a short period of time making you feel hungry. I know most people say high fiber bars are filling but, if your body is not used to a lot of fiber, you might not be a "happy camper" after eating those everyday. Your new ride might be the toilet.....if you get what I mean :ROFLOL:

i love Luna bars(there are some specific for breakfast but there are all really good). Also, I found that the Slimfast meal bars (usually I get the protein ones) are good too.

When I am at a lacrosse tournament and cant sit down to eat I make my own "trail mix", with lots of nuts and dried fruit. Its cheap and keeps you full for hours. Plus the added benifit of knowing whats in it helps.

Thats an excellent idea.....using things like Almonds, dried fruit, throw some pretzles, and maybe a handful of m&m's for a little extra sweet treat and your set to go. I might do this for our trip.

Lots and Lots of good suggestions! I stopped on the way home at Target and picked up some individual bars to try. I had a Clif - chocolate brownie this a.m. - you're right "heavy", but good fiber - it's close to lunch time and I'm still pretty good - so those may work. I have a Luna bar I'm going to try tomorrow - we have 33 days until we go so I can experiment.

As far as eating in the parks in the morning - we have one sit down at O'hana planned but we're using the dining plan and I didn't want to use many credits for breakfast. I'm sure many, many of you on here grab a quick bite in your room before heading out. We've done it for years - I just haven't been able to find a filling breakfast bar and figured people here would have great suggestions (and they do!) And it's good for others to get ideas too, right? Thanks, again everyone!!!!

I think I would worry about the M&M's melting. It gets so hot! I do this after Xmas - we usually have peanuts and M&M's leftover, I mix them with raisins. Makes a great snack mix.:slurp:

I really like the Fiber One bars, they are filling and really tasty.

I also am a fan of Nature's Valley. They have crunchy ones that come two in a pack and are great (I especially love the apple cinnamon and the peanut butter flavors). My husband likes the chewy Nature's Valley bars. He also likes the sweet and salty Hershey's and Reese's bars. They fill me up pretty good, along with water.

Bananas are VERY sugary, you just don't taste it.

They are not a bad food by any stretch, but they average around 30g of carbs (mostly in the form of sucrose, fructose, and glucose) each.

Of course if you eat them green, then all those carbs are starch, not sugars. Of course, thats why you get cramps from eating green bananas :D

Another vote for the Nature Valley crunchy bars.

In April my husband and I did this (I so know what you mean about the food courts in the AM). We each had a nature valley granola bar and a Sun Rype Fruit Source bar. THey are so filling! That way we were also getting some fruit and veggies into us. We were fine until we hit a QS restaurant for lunch. Don't balme you for not wanting to use your TS credits for breakfast.

Smart testing them ahead of time. We're off to WDW again in 2 weeks and will be loading up on bars again before we go!

Have a great trip!

Have you thought about buying a bag of bagels? I know there are several brands that don't have to be refrigerated. They stay with you a long time and with all the walking you do in the parks, you typically burn breakfast off pretty quickly.

I hadn't thought of that, but it's a good idea! My local Costco has packs of individual peanut butter cups. I do like those mini bagels that Thomas sells, they're about half the size of a regular and you don't need to refrigerate them - come in regular and cinnamon/raisin - and I could bring those cups and have a bagel with peanut butter (or jelly, or both!) Thanks for the suggestion!
