For those of you that have been to WDW during this event, do I need to be aware of anything? I've heard a range of things that go on during this week and I'm starting to worry for the sake of my small children. Any report will be appreciated.

Here we go... :lookaroun

Before this thread gets out of hand, you may want to search out the schedule of events and just avoid the specified park on those days.

Your children should be fine during this time. Nothing extreme really happens beyond a small kiss here and there and some hand holding.

My condolences on the loss of your thread. And you will be called a homophobe for having the audacity to consider Gay Days as something from which you might want to shelter your small children.

That being said, I've never encountered anything on a Gay Day that was any different than any other group outings to the parks: Magic Music Days, Cheer Week, etc. etc. Just a lot of folks in the same colored t-shirts.

Actually, it's a known fact that gay people's favorite food is small children with homophobic parents. High in protein, low in fat. 2nd favorite food is rainbow shebert. Just avoid the trails of glitter and you should be fine.

I liked that this happened exactly one post after you said it would.

Can we get a like button in here? Or at least some popcorn?

Ding ding ding. And we have a winner.

If you're worried for your small children around gay people then Disney isn't a place to take them any day of the year...

You have more to be worried about from straight teenagers.

I'm pretty sure the OP has no problem with his children being in the presence of gay people. I imagine that his concern arises from the rumors he's heard about Gay Days featuring openly affectionate behavior that would be inappropriate for gay or straight couples alike (in a public place). While this rumor is false, I imagine that many people who would have heard such things would share his concerns.

We've heard from Tigger1988. I imagine Enchantames will be around shortly to start slinging his share of the vitriol.

Yup. I went to Disney once with a friend who had a pin on their bag in support of gay marriage, and a CM talked to us for about five minutes about how many of her fellow CMs were gay. That, and many guests as well.

Disney is a open & welcoming environment, gay day or not.

It seems Wizards was appointed a mod, guess I missed the memo.

Hm...

To be clear, I have a grand total of zero problems with gay employees, guests, or events at WDW. It wouldn't make a drop of difference to me if Gay Days became an officially sanctioned event. What I don't like is that a concerned father is labeled a "homophobe" because he holds an opinion that is different than yours.

He wasn't directly called a homophobe. And not trying to start a flame war, but you were the closest one to calling him a homophobe.

Wizards, you were first person in the thread to use the word homophobe...

Nothing was wrong with my comment in the least. If he's concerned about PDAs he should worry about average teenagers more than those participating in gay days.

I totally understand his concerns. What is something slips out of someones chaps accidently? Or God forbid, a gay person is carrying their papers on them and can't be easily identified. Next thing you know, someone brushes up against you and you catch the gay! Lawsuit waiting to happen for Disney.

Fair point, but I've seen these exact threads played out before. They get nasty pretty fast and I figured I'd throw in my two cents before it got closed. Immature perhaps, but not inaccurate, as the poster immediately after me (MattyDrums) posted exactly what I expected him/her to.

I agree with you. I've personally never seen any inappropriate PDA at WDW from anyone at all. My only shocking experience along those lines was a pair of (straight) food service employees at Universal Studios talking about what they were going to "do to each other" after work. But the OPs concerns were not based on actual gay days. There are rumors floating around out there about Gay Days and if those rumors were true, I'd be absolutely appalled as a parent, not because of who engages in the behavior but because of what the behavior is.

Right, because that's what he's saying.
