And one wonders if it would be considered as "valid" if someone made a post asking about a day when a religious group would was planning a meet; if someone didn't want their kids potentially exposed to that type of person, you know what I mean?

Bad analogy. We've been programmed by pretty much any media to believe that gays will act a certain way or display a specific type of behavior. May not be true, but then again, half of what the media shoves down our throats isn't.

Happens alot around here when this topic comes up. People will talk about being "tolerant" and accepting of others, but in the same post, they will call names and belittle those who hold the other opinion. Apparently, "tolerance" and acceptance only applies to those who share the same beliefs. Not much tolerance/acceptance for those who have a contrary opinion.

No...I would say that there is not much "tolerance/acceptance" for those who have NO "tolerance/acceptance".

The OP showed absolutely no signs of having "no tolerance and acceptance", yet was jumped all over.

Sbkline was right - It happens here all the time.

That's assuming everyone's opinion is somehow equal and valid. When prejudice and factless assumptions are part of the premises, then I don't believe or agree with the conclusion.

Apologies for speaking on the OP's behalf, but I believe he was trying to discern if what he had heard regarding Gay Days had any merit.

Given some of the rumors that float around regarding public activities during that time (almost all of which are untrue) I would be hesitant to expose my family to that type of environment (whether they be gay or straight).

Since when did disagreement require full blown prejudice on the opposing side?

Is it possible to disagree on a lifestyle, but still be able to function around that person or even more mind blowing, not even mention that you disagree until approached?

It's not a black and white issue and given what I have heard about Gay Days in the past, again almost all of which is untrue, I think it is a valid concern.

In particular, on these days, you will see a lot of gay people in certain colored shirts (I had to laugh at the last thread, when a woman said her husband wore a red shirt that day, and made them stop, leave the park, go all the way back to the hotel to change LOL). Just like any group day at a park, it will be busy.

Ha. My family once got two free character T-shirts on the MK Gay Day. It was unseasonably cool and we had gotten caught in a torrential downpour, so my parents decided to buy new T-shirts at the Emporium. My brother and I were already dry, so we didn't want new shirts. Apparently, the CM interpreted it as two selfish parents buying T-shirts for only themselves and took pity on my brother and I, so she excused herself to the back room and brought out a free Tigger shirt and Mickey shirt for the two of us. She said that Disney stockpiles extra shirts on Gay Days for all of the people who unwittingly wear red and want to change (not sure if they gave them out free to anyone who complained or what). I'm still not sure why wearing red by "accident" on those days is such a big deal.

For what it's worth, we have often been to WDW in early June at the same time as Gay Days, and I have no memory of seeing anything inappropriate. Then again, I wasn't really looking for it. Chances are, you're children won't either. If they ever do see something inappropriate anywhere (from gay people or otherwise), use it as a teaching moment.

To say that straight people use drugs and/or pose nude all the time is just ignorant. Actually Gay Days is meant to bring awareness to homosexuals for the week. Look at it like this, 365 I am a patriot and love this country, but on July 4th a take the American flag out and the red, white, and blue shirt and display my love for this country. On the Saturday at MK Gay people do the same thing, being a little less discrete with their homosexuality. If anyone wants to know why people have reservations on Gay Days then they can look at your website and see what goes on at the hotels i.e. nudity pool parties, ______ toys conventions and ographic movie showings. So please don’t tell me that there is nothing to worry about with my kids when this goes on. By the way, how to you know the people on flash mountain wasn’t gay, were they wearing a sign saying that they were straight or was it because gays never would do such a thing. SEE ABOVE

because straight people don't do those things? I am so confused why people need to shield themselves from the world we live in. Grow up people. Its not a crime for people to represent who they are.

I really don't understand the problem here. If there is a chance you think you will be offended, there are 3 other parks to choose from on any given day. This debate is so tired and pointless. Gays have the right to meet together for a week at Disney. Anyone who doesn't like that has a right not to go.

Exactly!! But good luck convincing people of that, when many people are offended by turbans...

Obviously there's 2 sides to every issue and in this issue its pretty easy, there's a right side and a wrong side. There's no debate to be had.

hahaha yeah some people are stuck in their ways and never change, sad but true. There are plenty of other things ( water parks, parks, dtd) to go to on those days. If you feel uncomfortable going then don't its not that hard to avoid it if you need to. I just think its really sad people need to avoid MK because they feel they need to. Oh well

Who the heck said they didn't? Point out 1 post that said that. I can't stand when posters try to make themselves sound like martyrs.

Since it seems like the OP's question was answered and we are straying away from the topic at hand, I am going to close this thread.
