Just curious, and I dont know why this just popped up in my mind, but has anyone seen the gators that live in the Tom Sawyer lagoon in a while. Just was curious if they are still there or have they become enough of a nuisence that Disney finally decided to remove them. I remember one cast member telling me last june that if they became pests they were gonna take them out.

I saw a pretty big one last March, but when I was there in October, I was unable to find one. Could have been that they were somewhere else or they removed them. I find it kind of hard to beleive that they will be able to get rid of them, seeing that the park was built in the swamp.

I don't know anything about the gators at Tom Sawyer Island, but when we were checking out of BCV on 9AUG03, animal control was in the process of removing a small gator from the creek by the quiet pool.

We have seen one that likes to hang out near the boardwalk in front of the Diamond Horseshoe. He was a little over 3 feet long and we saw him on at least three occasions.

Gators aren't a nuisance if you don't pester them

With all due respect, MKT, for Disney to simply ~hope~ that the tens of thousands of people who move through the MK and may happen across a gator WON'T pester them is probably not practical. Personally, I appreciate the “better safe than sorry” approach to dealing with crowds of people (and potentially dangerous animals). Assuming that they capture and relocate the gator humanely, of course...

Man, I forgot to look when I was there a couple of weeks ago. It was on my list. I have seen one everytime, but this past time. I think it was just way too crowded when I was there to think about looking for gators. Now I have to wait another year.

I used to see a lot of them around the Tom Sawyer Island area but the last 5 or so times I've been I haven't seen any. But I'm sure there are some still there.

Even though the park was built on a swamp, when it was constructed the part of the sawmp was drained out and the access to the main swamp was "netted" to keep gators out. Only when they are very young are they able to get by this netting, the cast member said for the gators that were in the park, this was probably the case. They swam through when they were babies. The one I saw was a little over 3 feet long last June.

I guess when I'm at Disney, I suffer from Disney euphoria...I've never seen a wild animal. Maybe I've seen them and thought they were part of the attraction:o. i suppose they don't put much emphasis on such things as to not scare the guests:D

Could this have been the true reason for closing River Country?:lookaroun

There so much wonderful wildlife around the parks! Ducks, rabbits, gators! But really...the baby ducks in spring are the best! They are so cute!

Having spent the last of many years in the central florida area, I can safely say that I have never heard of a gator attacking a guest or cast member... even better, when I lived on a lake, I wakeboarded and was part of a crew team... not once did we have a gator bother us. Gators will very rarely bother a human, but when they do, it's usually something the human did to warrant it.

The only animal attack I've EVER heard of at WDW was a CM friend of mine getting bitten by a little brown snake during a third shift parade rehearsal... and it was considerably less than fatal. And he stepped on the snake to warrant it.

If I were truly worried about gators, I never would've allowed myself to move here from my boa infested, hurricane and earthquake prone, mako shark surrounded tropical island home

ALL THOSE DARNED SEAGULLS!!! *mine, mine, mine...*

I wish they could find a way to control the seagull population with the gators. That would be nice....
