Garden Grill restaurant permanently immobile? No.

My 2 cents... They should fix it. I thought there used to be a sign out front warning customers of the rotation.
My Mom was treated like a queen there with her scooter, and it was a pain getting it to our seat, but the CMs couldn't have been any kinder. Plus we loved Farmer Mickey. Food was fresh and good. I do hope they fix the rotation. It just makes the restaurant even more unique.

I can't imagine how many people will/would cancel any reservations or not plan to go there due to this. The ability to see scenes from the attraction is the only reason we were going to try it in September.

Honestly, without the rotation that restaurant isn't really anything too special. The food is decent and it offers a unique character experience... but the rotation is the main selling point. I would imagine quite a few people would be upset.

Would anybody really put it past them though to leave it stationary and charge extra for tables with views of the ride?

I'm trying to figure out the problem WDW has with rotating platforms. The Busby Berkley scene at the start of the Great Movie ride hasn't rotated for years! Seems like a simple thing to me.

I knew I wasn't crazy! There was a big gap between our visits and it always confused me that I remembered that scene differently!

Also, that long ago trip, such fond memories of eating at the moving restaurant (I would hardly call it spinning, unless the earths rotation makes you dizzy). Was really enamored with the entire living with the land back then! It will be absolutely pathetic if they dont fix it. Kind of condemning for the current way WDW is ran that it is what everyone is expecting.

That scene used to be quite a bit different. It used to have water effects and everything. I believe the water caused issues with the turntable that were never repaired.

Carousel of Progress still rotates just fine for the most part. Every now and then you might get stuck repeating a scene, but it's generally back up by the next day. :)

The problem with the Footlight Parade scene was that it was much more complex than a simple rotation. One tier went left, one tier went right, left, right and so on. Couple that with the water fountains that regularly flooded the equipment and you had a real bad day.

If this page is to be believed, http://www.studioscentral.com/great-movie-ride-footlight-parade and I do think it is accurate, that scene hasn't spun since the 90's.

How is shutting down the rotation and improvement? $oundS like $pin to me to hide the fact that Di$ney doe$ not want to $pend money on new technology to keep it moving or repair the old technology. Echo of the Yeti.

What's sad is that what I wrote was a joke - just did my best to ape the style of the Disney Parks Blog. Guess it was convincing! ;)

Well that trip was in 1990-91, and it was several years until I was back, and MGM changed ALOT between those trips, but I loved the GMR the first time, so I was suprised when it wasnt the same. Always nagged at the back of my mind. Never bothered to look it up, just thought I mis-remembered.

Soaring is a great addition to the Land Pavilion, but the rest of it now looks like an airport concourse food court...Surely there is more to "The Land" than a food court!?!
I think the whole pavilion needs a makeover... Keep the dining, Keep Soaring and Living with the Land, but make the interior of the building seem like it is connected to The Land. The rotating restaurant had great views of the biosphere environments...A wonderful thing to keep (with rotation intact, but the overall pavilion is kind of tragic looking. I know of several shopping malls that look more organic and beautiful than this.

By this set was so creepy and wooden that it was actually improved by putting up a scrim and stopping the rotation. One case where less was clearly more.

Well, the Earth does rotate at about 1,000 mph (which sort of makes the benches the fastest ride in Walt Disney World). :)

Yet someone calls a restaurant 'spinning' when its movement is barely perceptible.

When my wife and I lived in Orlando, once a week we'd venture over to Epcot and get a piece of strawberry shortcake at The Land and sit at one of the tables next to the fountain that used to be in the center of the pavilion. It was so relaxing to hear the atmospheric music and listen the water. It's the little things like that which Disney used to be so good at making memories from.
