Garden Grill character lunch tests

the icecream social was fun there was an ice cream menu and drinks and it happened between lunch n dinner hours and was held at the garden Grill with the same characters that are still there now,I went in 2003 So they ended it somewhere between then and 2005 because my next trip was in 05 and was gone by then :(
Too bad, that does soud like fun. Thanks for the explanation though.

Do they really need to test something that they already had in place? Or are they simply gauging the response?

Two tacos with unlimited toppings for $12 is a good deal to me. My guideline for lunch is anything under $15 is a good deal if it's in a restaurant or somewhere like a theme park or movie theater where I expect to pay a higher price. Even a take-away hot bar package from Whole Foods would weigh in at around $14 or so where I live.

I fail to see how comparing a pink slime hamburger, heck even a feed lot raised corn fed hamburger and fries for under $15 at Six Flags or AMC can be compared to 1 1/2-2 lbs (at the 6.99-7.99 per/lb the local Whole Foods charge for their hot/cold bar) of fresh, local, or organic healthy foods.

I was surprised when they got rid of the lunch dining there in the first place. We usually ate lunch there and the tables always seemed pretty full. And I do agree on the eating lunch there for a cheaper price and pretty much same great food.

The funny part is, these attempts at spin are bringing out more critical responses. I would be happy about Garden Grill serving lunch again. I think it was a big mistake when they stopped in the first place. Another stupid decision motiated by spreadsheets. I would never have launched an attack on Disney dining as a whole if not for the existence of a plant trying to spin corn conspiracy stories.
ssshhhh, don't let on that we know....
keep you friends close but Disney social media closer

The problem was the lunch tables were full and the more expensive dinner tables weren't.

I've never been for lunch or dinner but we did go to breakfast back in 2000 and we loved it. Now the only breakfast option in Epcot for sit down is the Princess breakfast and not everyone loves the Princesses. Even though I wish they would bring back the breakfast, lunch would be a good option too!!

When made as general, sweeping statements, I have no problem with the comments about social media plants. I don't know whether it's true (as I said in another thread, I suspect Disney monitors the forums for general trends via third parties, and specific employees and individuals in leadership positions frequent the boards informally out of curiosity) that there are plants, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it is. Plants seem pointless to me, but plenty that Disney does I deem pointless, so it wouldn't be a substantial deviation from the norm in that regard...

However, singling out an individual poster and calling them out as a plant, with nothing more to go on than the odd opinions they've presented seems to cross a line. It's like WDWMagic's own form of McCarthyism. To me, it says more about the people making the allegations than it does about the one being accused.

It's becoming the lowest form of internet discourse.

"If your opinion differs from mine, then you must work for the corporation I'm criticizing." One cannot effectively comment against it, because of course one would deny it. It's a nice little box to shut down an argument.

Regardless if Patricia Melton, or Tom, or even I work for Disney or not, shouldn't the effort be spent disproving the argument instead of discrediting the poster?

Ok, I'll join in one last time because I can't believe how ridiculous this has become.

First: The "$14 taco" comment was purposely superlative because the corn argument was similarly outrageous. That's how real people converse when they're not afraid that a social media hack is going to flip out and think a $14 taco meal might stop someone from visiting the most magical place on earth. Plus there was a winking smiley face next to the comment, which indicates it's a joke.

Second: Incidentally, two tacos at the MK are $12. Add a drink and you've hit $14.50. They're huge tacos and quite tasty, so I don't mind. I expect to pay higher prices in a theme park. Again, I paid $25 a couple of days ago for lunch at Olive Garden. Disney's quick service prices are comparable to Chili's or Applebee's, albeit served on paper and not full service.

Third: This thread is supposed to be about an improvement coming to the Garden Grille. Of course prices were going to be mentioned at some point because Disney HAS been raising them without actually adding anything to their parks. But that's the way businesses work. Every attempt to explain it away with massive, frantic replies just seems sillier and sillier.

Finally: My apologies to Patricia if she is actually a real person. I do advise she stops picking apart people's words and taking everything so deathly seriously. There's plenty of good stuff to discuss without creating an online riot by trying to defend theme park prices. On the interwebs, haters always gonna' hate. Relax.

Edit: I am bowing out now because I can't believe I got sucked into this. It's exactly the kind of online goofiness I try to avoid. :D

McCarthyism? Really?

There's a little more to go on than an odd post in this case. If you Google the Mineral City Coffee Club, you'll find some interesting results. I won't say more because it gets political. But if you're curious, feel free to search for yourself.

Googled the aforementioned club and the read I just had about Christmas was...uhh..."interesting." Not quite sure what to make of what I just read, to be honest. I'm still failing to connect the dots on this person being a plant, but I've only been able to stomach the one article...and I doubt I will be able to read more.

That said, it still seems to me that the referenced poster's statements would be best refuted (it shouldn't be too difficult) or outright ignored. Sort of along the lines of the "don't feed the troll" mentality?

I think the comparison to McCarthyism is apt in that both are witch hunts of sorts. In the last few months, I've seen multiple individuals explicitly or implicitly accused of being plants on here. I certainly don't believe that everyone's opinion is "good" or is grounded in logic, but just because their opinion is illogical doesn't mean they're a plant. The accusation is a red herring.

There are plenty of regular 'ole Disney fans who present illogical or poorly-formed opinions that flow directly from their own rose-colored glasses and nothing more.

The really good one is the "open letter". If you read it, you'll understand why suspicions were raised in this case.

I am happy to argue my points and have done so. But I also feel like this particular case bears some scrutiny.

And throwing around "McCarthyism" is like branding someone a nazi. It's insulting to compare a forum argument to real life historical events that negatively impacted so many lives.

Thanks, I will give that a read.

Both times I've used the reference to McCarthyism, I feel I've qualified it enough so it shouldn't come across as branding someone as anything. I'm hardly labeling anyone a McCarthyist; I am saying that I believe the 'plant' moniker is this forum's own version of a witch hunt (in the colloquial sense--no reference to Salem intended) and its increased use beyond this thread is concerning to me.

That said, I probably could have more carefully picked an analogy from the outset that wouldn't make it seem like I was invoking Godwin's Law! ;)

Yeah, I knew you didn't mean any harm by it. Unless you're really a plant! Dum-dum-dum! (That's supposed to be dramatic music in case that didn't come across.

HOLY CARP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The very first google hit.

Wow. People be crazy.

I now fully understand why it's not the DDP and Disney's greed that has decimated the food options at WDW.

<insert Captain Kirk voice> IT'S COOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!

Crap, I knew I forgot to pick up a talking points package when I was out there. I guess now I know what was in it!!!

...

On an unrelated note, I would like to bring to your attention how corn is preventing Downtown Disney from being less sucky. Likewise with River Country (some sort of corn parasite in the water, I heard). Corn is also the #1 threat to popcorn lights at WDW. ;)
