Garden Grill character lunch tests

Trolling and Impersonating another person seems to be against board rules too. Just sayin'....

Wait, you mean Thomas would do something like that???? No, I can't imagine that. It's unbelievable and unconceivable. <-------insert sarcasm

BTW If and when Garden Grill comes back for lunch, expect the characters to make some magical experiences for the guests. The characters there really go out of their way to make their guests feel very special!

Will they change up the characters? Or will they be the same as before?

So I guess corn is why Disney is slashing menu options, using lower quality food, serving smaller portions and adding a holiday surcharge? Just like every other restaurant in the world?

Yep, that is totally plausible. And not at all something a social media employee paid by a major corporation would say.

How's the Gov anyway?

I wouldnt even waste my time talking to patricia melton. Thats all she does on here is insult people and start fights with them. Just ignore her posts.

You shouldn't say that tacos are $14 at WDW without being more specific --- it misleads people.

You need to remember that people planning a trip to WDW read these boards and you shouldn't give them wrong impressions. It's not fair to them, or to Disney. I don't know what your personal stake is in misleading people about prices.

So now you have finally said that you're talking about $14 for tacos at Epcot including a drink and a bag of chips.

Before you claimed it was "$14 for tacos"...the drink and the bag of chips changes things. It's not really $14 for tacos, as you claimed originally, but for a meal in a theme park that includes a drink and chips too. That is wildly different than what you originally claimed.

A couple of tacos, a drink, and chips in a theme park for $14 is a good deal in my opinion.

For comparison, at Burger King they have tacos now and a meal with two tacos, a drink, and fries comes out close to $10 with tax (I know this because we ate there for lunch this week and that is what my nephew got). Factoring in the convenience premium that comes with eating anything in a theme park, $14 is not a bad price at all. I highly doubt that the "tiny" tacos you are talking about at EPCOT are smaller than the ones at Burger King.

I'm sorry, I have a real life and can't keep up with this.

Did I mention that I eat on property weekly and enjoy many of the restaurants?

Well, I didn't mean for my one blow up that yet another form turned into a DDP bashing session to turn into an even longer DDP bashing session.

Now back on topic. Does anyone know if there is a specific reason why it would be coming back? I remember there not being any real sit down location in future world and always having to walk to the world show case to have a table service lunch. I know in January we really wanted to eat at Garden Grill but unfortunately the only available time was during Illuminations and it was our friends first (and probably only) time to EPCOT so we didn't want him to miss it.

I hope it does return permanently; the food there is delicious!

Firstly, and most importantly, on the original topic... I have never eaten at Garden Grill because of the yummy quick service choices at Sunshine Seasons. It's my favorite place for quick vegetarian food. (I am a bunny after all.) However... if there were more options for character meals at Garden Grill I would certainly give it a try!

Secondly... things seem to be spinning out of control around here - it seems like around these boards one either is completely over the moon with, or completely cynical about, every decision at WDW. There is no middle ground left. Why so polarized? My opinion... the food is still good, but it is relatively expensive.

Last, to be brief... I beg you, don't use ADD as an insult. Thanks to those who already commented on that.

Just wondering people keep throwing around the DDP as the excuse for cost vs. food quality. Has anyone stopped to think that it could be something else? I mean in the last few years there have been several bad droughts across farm country in the USA and the economy and gas prices are incredibly high 3 things that drastically drive up the price of food and make less high quality ingredients available. I just always think that some people here can be pleased with anything. They offer a new selection at Pinochio's restaurant and people complain that they took something away and then they are thinking about adding back a lunch option that was once taken away and people complain about it before we know the real details at all. I think the food industry across America is going through a hard time right now and most of us are accustom to life in a bad economy. I mean in the last 2 years I have been to several nice restaurants in NYC that I use to love and walked out unsatisfied because their prices are higher but there food just isn't the same any more. You can't blame anything like the DDP for a similar circumstance happening outside of Disney.

I agree. I have an AP and Vaca Club. So I can buy the DDP or tables in wonderland. And being and account manager, I play with numbers. Sooooo. I can actually save about $85 to $100 on my total food bill on a 5 night stay with tables in wonderland. Even with a cost of $100 a year. Because with DDP you get desserts and have to pay your tips on that dessert, that we never can finish. So on you really don't save with DDP unless it's free. And truly I save more because our grocery store give me fuel perks with buying Disney gift cards before we go. So I save on gas!! It's a win win for me.

I also cater on the weekends and having to pay for products can be quite expensive. So I don't think it's because Disney is being cheap, I think it's more cost effective to buy a lot of one item that can be used in many dishes, vs a few of one item that doesn't get used much. Also you get more consistency with making 8 dishes vs 20.

That sounds interesting, never heard of that before. When did they get rid of that?
the icecream social was fun there was an ice cream menu and drinks and it happened between lunch n dinner hours and was held at the garden Grill with the same characters that are still there now,I went in 2003 So they ended it somewhere between then and 2005 because my next trip was in 05 and was gone by then :(

Disney's prices are so high because they know that people are stuck in the parks(much like in a movie theater). I don't know of any food in the park that's not completely overpriced (besides the free salad bar at some of the QS restaurants) and its mostly because people don't want to leave the park to eat. I do believe that DDP has a lot more to do with high prices in the parks and the lowering of the overall quality of restaurants then "corn price" does. Your problems are solved if you eat outside the park. There is a great deal of variety and the prices are good too because there is so much competition. Yet another reason my family likes to stay outside the parks.
I believe that people shouldn't just complain about the high prices and lower quality of food. They should change their spending habits within the parks. Bring food in or eat outside the parks. This will affect Disney's bottom line and get their attention if enough people started doing it, but part of the fun of Disney is eating the Disney food. Disney knows this very well and they will continue raising prices at will. 2.75 for a coke? come on.

A little off topic but I'm sitting here drinking my 2.00 coke outside of Disney that is now pretty standard in NYC. It is 2.19 (plus bottle deposit) at most grocery stores and convenience stores to get a 20 oz bottle. At dinner I've paid over 3 bucks and no refills so as other have said it is relative to where you are from as well.

I'm interested in this ice cream social everyone keeps talking about. So basically you just had ice cream with Mickey and Minnie? I wish they would do that again. I can't tell you how many times I just want to eat dessert and not feel obligated to eat dinner as well.

A 2-liter of soda is a dollar when it goes on sale at my grocery store. When its not on sale it's like 1.75. I just don't know how anyone can defend a 20 0z being almost 3 bucks.

It's New York is how they justify it. The 2 litter is about 2.50 here if that but we don't want to lug around 2 litters all day also not all apartments in NYC have full size refrigerators so a 2 liter won't even fit in them.

Some recent prices of Coke that I've noticed:

* $2.00 in vending machines for a 20oz in Columbus, Ohio (saw that all around town last week when I was up there)
* $3.00 in most restaurants I go to for a Coke (free refills at the tables)
* $1.99 for a 2 liter of Coke at 7-11
* $1.85 is the average price for Coke at CVS (drug store in the area)
* 77-cents is the lowest I have ever seen Coke on sale at CVS (about once a month it is 99-cents or 88-cents though, for about 5 days at a time)
* 99-cents is the typical price I see for a can of Coke when cans are sold separately

I don't drink Pepsi so I don't know Pepsi prices. I buy Coke products all the time so I know if I see it for the 77-cents I stock up. I hate having to buy it when it's at the $1.99 price but my husband loves Cherry Coke Zero and so I will get it for him even if it's the 7-11 price if we are out.

I think Disney's prices in the parks are similar to 7-11 prices.

At the grocery store, they have a little cooler full of soda pops at every checkout lane. The pops there are all in the range of $1.50 to $1.75 for a 20oz.

It's funny to me because back in the soda pop aisle the 2 liters are very often on sale for cheaper than the 20oz size. People however do not want to get out of the checkout line and walk back to the pop aisle to get the cheaper larger size.

Reminds me of the food/beverage situation inside a theme park versus outside. When you are in the park (or in the checkout line at the store) you will pay a higher price for a smaller size item than you would if you were outside the park (or outside the checkout line). Convenience and location increase prices in almost all cases.
