Fun With Numbers: MK Maingate Blackout Edition

That has nothing to do with it. I'd apply the same thing to a P&R CM with a resort reservation. You don't see the difference between a Marvel family of five with seven nights booked at Bay Lake Tower, and two attractions CPs with nothing to do on a Friday night?

What is this communist "everyone must be equal or that's not faaaaaair" crap? Spoiler alert: a VP of marketing at ESPN has a lot more than the guy working the register at Casey's. Bigger paycheck, corner office, weekends off, hotter wife, company car. Why? Not because nobles-and-serfs. Because any fully-abled person with a sunny personality can be plugged into a front line role. VPs of marketing don't grow on trees. The CP isn't a lower class citizen in the TWDC universe, they're a lower class citizen in the ACTUAL universe.

Your right....in today's world and today's TWDC.....but that wasn't the way it always was....not at Disney....Everyone was just as important. ...from the CEO to the guy slinging hotdogs at Casey's.

Nice...real nice
Come on. You honestly believe that was ever the case, at any company at any point in human history? The CEO is equal to the guy slinging hotdogs at Casey's? Come on, man.

A family member worked for the company for 20 years....I may have some insight....nice try...

BTW....No thanks....
I'm sure your family member is a swell person, but if they honestly fell for the company line that every employee is just as important as every other employee... wow.

You are taking it to literal.....of course not....but when it came to stuff like main gate passes....block outs etc....then yes

As far as I know a new VP of marketing doesn't get a Silver maigate...it's earned....so in that case they are all equal. Now I am sure the higher up u go....you don't even need a maingate

Yes I do you are saying the Marvel employees are more important than the P&R employees,

You don't seem to realize WHY the Maingate passes exist at all. They were given so the employees could experience the parks on a firsthand basis and so give better guest service. They were a 'perk' which benefited WDP because the CM's knew the park both onstage and offstage. The argument is WHY are TWDC non P&R employees granted Maingate passes. I can see the comps but not the maingates which should be reserved for P&R employees only.

Being blocked out doesn't impact your ability to be knowledgeable about the on-stage product. You still have literally hundreds of days a year to experience the parks.

VP of marketing also gets a gold pass. That's one of the passes that are unaffected by the blackouts.

The executive level & VIP passes are not affected by blackouts.

That means whomever made this decision isn't effected by it, just the people who actually do the heavy lifting.

Less than 50% of the year it seems.... And this is a new trend since late 2012.

Before that.... It was Spring Break, Christmas, major holidays. None of this blocking out an entire month at a time.

It doesn't matter. If you're making the argument that it's rolling back a perk, fine. I might buy that. But @ford91exploder is trying to make the point that the primary motivation behind the passes is to provide CMs with on-stage expertise to help them perform better at their jobs. I visit WDW about one week a year, maybe two of those at Magic Kingdom, and I consider myself an "expert." CMs have more than enough days to gain whatever product knowledge they might need to pick up.

Plus, we need to remember that we're really only talking about Magic Kingdom. The other parks are virtually never blocked.

Correct.... I'm more thinking that its increasing PCGS at MK but I'm not a financial guy.

I'm the guy keeping track of how many blockout days there are, seeing that its over 50% of the year and calling it a bunch of crap....

I see your point....what I will add is that the other parks virtually have no block outs....yet...let's see what happens in a few years....

If anyone has the Blockout dates from Jan 2013- August 2013 as well as all of 2010 & 2011, I'm trying to dig those up.

The Blockout date site only goes back to August 2013.

I am not so sure that plussing the other three parks will alleviate the peak crowds at MK. It might to a degree.....but with the DHS makeover and Pandora.....how will that drive attendance up across the board. New first timers? or just increased attendance? Which will off set any negligible effect on MK. IMO it could get worse for MK. On a seven day trip people tend to go to MK more then one day. where they only vist the other three parks one day on their visit. I think all these additions to the other arks will drive attendance up but does little to help with over crowding at MK.....I think it will only worsen. Which will limit CM's and maingates even more. Its a vicious cycle that they are in. WDW has become a theme park destination instead of a resort destination. SO many things have been closed and done away with that were not in the parks. There was a time when Disney marketed the entire resort.....golfing....horse back riding.....all kinds of activities that kept guest busy and out of the parks. Now its We have FP+ reservations....we must....we must go to the park.....we must get our monies worth....tour commando style......How many people say the resort room is only where you sleep and take a shower? No one just enjoys the resorts.( OK very few). In 2015 its all about the parks.
MK will pretty much always increase in attendance, so long as the economy doesn't crash. It's the #1 destination at WDW.

Pandora and the DHS makeover will definitely spread crowds more... but if anything, it'll just mean less people go to Epcot and more go to AK/DHS. With MK either staying, or potentially having a slight increase.

That's exactly what I am saying....you just did it in fewer sentences.....LOL
