That's exactly what I am saying....you just did it in fewer sentences.....LOL
True lol... but at this point, priorities should be:

  1. Getting DHS up to par
  2. Fixing Future World
  3. Expanding AK post-Pandora (5-7 more attractions, plus revamps for Kali, Everest and DINOSAUR)
  4. Revitalizing World Showcase
  5. High-capacity Ds/Es or high-capacity shows for MK
MK really is last on the list, currently. AK will be last, if they ever fix Everest, expand Kali and revamp Dinoland. DHS will be last come 2021. Epcot appears to be in a perpetual state of stagnation (Frozenstrom notwithstanding), so I doubt they'll ever be last :(

Dude, Come On.

What the hell does that have to do with blackout dates?

I was just responding to somebody else's point. Sorry haha...

As for blackouts, once the other three parks are as compelling as MK, they might be able to start reverting to blackouts only during peak periods (Spring Break, July 4th, Christmas, New Year's, etc). Right now, MK is the only park that has a solid full-day lineup. Epcot and AK have enough to last you a day, but 1/3 or so of the attractions are 'meh'. DHS will be solid in 5-6 years.

Since MyMagic+ the Walt Disney World Resort has been in an un-ending period of "Testing". Testing FP+. Testing MDX. Testing touch to _____. Everything at WDW is a test. To me this reads as a test.

Let's take a low level month. And let's compare how many CM reservation end up purchasing tickets because of block-outs. And then last minute release the block-out and see how many main gates get used day of. And because we have MagicBands and MyMagic+ we can evaluate the spending patterns of these guests of CMs.

Nah, this has come about since George K came to town. 153 days last year isnt a mere "test." 185 days (Jan- everything Scheduled, end of October) isnt a "test." 2009 had 53 days.... so they've tripled the number of days in the past 5 years.

Its ridiculous.

Indeed I agree. However summer began with 1 day unblocked and that has since increased to 21 thus far. As they re-evaluate they are unblocking days. It's a game.

Well.... Not exactly. They unblocked one week after blowback from the cast.

July 19th to the 25th are now unblocked at MK.

Appreciated. I'll update my sheets.

Alas.... YTD, 108 days MK was blacked out. 54.5% of the year.

Out of those 108 days, 54 of them were peak days (8+ crowd level). 51 average (4-7). 3 off-peak (1-3).

Either way, we're still talking 3-5% daily attendance....

Not sure you can justify "surge pricing" if every third day at MK is a peak crowd.

Sure you can - just analyze the size of the peak... Take the average days as a zero baseline and do a histogram of the rest and divide the curve into three regions BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD - Et Voila! you have your peak pricing model

Why are they doing these so last minute? Surely they have predictions further than a week out?
Because they can. It seems that Disney cares less about their employees and a very devalued benefit each year as @PhotoDave219 and others have pointed out. Employees who would like to invite out of area family and friends to come and visit have less time to make plans and perhaps arrange for time off to enjoy this benefit. Just an opinion I hear from friends who work for the mouse.

What I can add to this discussion having been here this past week is that I am coming to understand the issues that some have been complaining about on the forums (most likely for many years). And it is quite simple: upper management has not handled the long term growth and development of the WDW resort. MK is a mess from an over-crowding perspective now because DAK closes early, FW in Epcot is a joke in its current state, and DHS is a park that charges people $90+ to enter and gives you pretty much 5 rides to enjoy. It comes out to about $18/ride if you don't do shows.

I love MK, and some of its big pluses would be the overall number of lands and attractions, as well as a killer day parade and nighttime fireworks show. And yes, I even like NFL a lot. 7DMT is one of my favorites. Last night, it had a 150 minute standby. 150! And in TL, my youngest had to use the bathroom. Well, there is a bathroom near Startraders that was so full it felt like a urination factory. It would have been impossible to be kept clean due to the throughput of people.

And why is this? Because parks like Epcot have things like Innoventions that aren't showcasing a thing. Or total joke rides like Ellen's or JII, 2 pavilions with so much possibility. I rode Ellen's ride for the first time a few days ago and couldn't believe they still offer that as a ride. It is obvious now how Epcot needs to be maintained to be successful while remaining dedicated to its original mission statement. The problem is there isn't a single person in the Disney hierarchy bold enough to do it.

DAK is being transformed into something special. Thus is one of the 4 parks I don't have very many issues with. I love the mix of rides, animals and shows. It is my favorite WDW park right now.

DHS, well the next 5 years will hopefully make this a better situation.

I hope that all of the money being spent over the next 5-7 years is well spent, and helps draw people out of the MK to the other parks. Right now it is tough to enjoy the time spent there because there are too many people clambering to get into that park, plain and simple.

next week's blockouts at MK got lifted

Thanks. Updated my speadsheet.

Of course, this still leaves ALL of October.

YTD: 109 blocked out days, 54% of the year thus far. Of those, 55 peak crowds (8+) showed, 51 Average crowds (4-7) showed and 3 off peak (1-3) crowds.
