Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

The battle was lost the minute El rio was given way to cartoon characters that didn't represent the culture of the country. Now it's just about how much can we salvage.

There are still parts in the ride that show off actual places in Mexico though. This will most likely not be the case with Frozen and Norway. Thus while Gran Fiesta Tour has cartoons in it, it's not nearly as bad as what will happen with Norway.

And like I've been saying, El Rio Del Tiempo and the third act of Three Caballeros were pretty much the same thing: Weird film travelogues of Mexico with a Mary Blair inspired holiday interlude that has the overall effect of making people speculate what kinda drugs the designers were on.

Of course they won't do that. Just look at the Seas with Nemo. The ride's a lazy copypasta sequel with the educational content and stuff involving education with the characters is limited to a couple of videos near some of the exhibits that people will easily ignore like the Mr. Ray manatee video or Crush telling us about the turtle doors in lobster cages.
If there's any educational element in a newer character overlay, it's pushed to the side.

But this is part of the problem. Do you really think the fact that there are people out there who want to not take advantage of a fun way to learn something new while on vacation is a good thing? It's not like we're saying that anyone should go to WDW with the idea of writing a thesis paper about their experiences in WS.

I get scared when I hear of people who want to avoid learning at any cost just because it's vacation time. These are the same people who think summer reading will kill a child's summer break, and I've already discussed how detrimental that can be. Google "summer learning loss" if you don't believe me.

I am the same way. I guess I am in the minority when it comes to things.

Jeez if you want "Bright and shiny stuff" go to MK or MGM, if you want to learn and have fun at the same time then Epcot and AK should be your choice. I mean if you don't want to learn then don't pay for more days to go to those parks..

That's why I really never visit Epcot more than once a trip because there really isn't anything interesting left there. I mean yeah Test Track is fun but I wish WOM was still there. And don't even get me started on M:S.. I prefer Horizons to that "Vomit Comet".. (I have issues with confined space and high gforces. Everest is fine because I put up with that horrible backwards part and it's fine after that.. But being locked in a tight space for 4 minutes is not fun.)

I guess we are just getting less intelligent with every generation.

I'm with you CW, I do believe that Epcot can provide edutainment in an engaging manner. It was the park's original mission and sadly been lost to history. As others have mentioned, the ADD crowd can be satisfied with other parks, but I still think Epcot can handle them as well. The right imaginative folks just need to take the reigns of Epcot and find a way to get it back on track. Though I don't see how they can't milk the Frozen cash cow more. That's the unfortunate part.

It should never play to the lowest common denominator...people that only want thrill rides... There are plenty of Six Flags parks for that... EPCOT Center was always designed to be more...

The first time my mother visited (in 1982) MK and EPCOT, she remarked that "EPCOT is the MK for grown-ups." That FW was an imaginary world that would be real for her grandchildren, and WS was a way to get a taste of other countries without having to travel. She thought the combination was like the 1964 World's Fair - especially since several of the attractions in MK were based on prototypes presented there.

The more I think about this whole Frozen-Maelstrom-Norway Pavilion situation the more I question this and similar threads.

Cars, which earned a worldwide gross of $461,983,149, received an entire land at Disney California Adventure. There is not one or two attractions. Instead, there are three attractions and three quick-service dining locations. Moreover, Disney invested heavily in the construction of Cadillac Range for a truly immersive experience.

Frozen earned a worldwide gross of $1,273,738,009. Why on earth would Disney's highest grossing animated film find a home in the Norway Pavilion and, specifically, Maelstrom. Where is the North Mountain? Where is Oaken's Trading Post? Mater gets a junkyard jamboree while Olaf gets nothing? This makes absolutely no sense at all.

Anna and Elsa have enjoyed 5 hour wait times; fan frenzy resulted in a change in rope drop procedure. Frozen Fun Summer premium tickets sold out within days of their announcement. I am no insider, but a Frozen Maelstrom would seem to be a temporary overlay until something larger is rolled out.

Completely agree with your points but Cars was/is a money spinner for Disney, specifically in the male demographic, something they are (were?) trying to increase, that is the main reason we saw Cars Land at DCA over anything else. With this a Frozen Land would make perfect sense but I'd rather see Disney expand the parks for what is good in the long run and not the quick money (I can dream).

Cars Land is a well executed, world-class themed area, despite it being an obvious money spinner. IMO, what makes good in the long run is dependent on the quality of the attraction, regardless of the popularity/cash cow-ness of the IP. It's why attractions like Tower of Terror and Temple of the Forbidden Eye remain popular long after their respective IP's have run their course. As long as it's well done and placed appropriately (i.e, NOT in Norway), Frozen is welcome in a Disney park.

You must be new. The original EPCOT Center pulled off edutainment almost flawlessly. How? By using those bright shiny things (giant IMAX screens, choose-your-own simulation ending (produced by David Jones of Star Wars fame), AA dinosaurs, the world's largest aquarium at the time, a geodesic sphere, the entire JII pavilion inside and out, etc.) lol! I'm not being a smart alek. I lived and loved EPCOT Center as a child who liked big bright shiny things! That was the whole point! Use those big, bright shiny things to engage the guests, and they won't even know they're learning!

This leads me to my next point. Now that I've established that I'm an old-school EPCOT Center purist, I still can't help but look at this from the "other side" so to speak. As a Frozen fan, what does this say about the franchise? It gets a crummy overlay (no, there's no hope for anything more, trust me; would love to be wrong) in the new "Pleasure Island" (the first F&W should be real fun around the new kiddie pavilion)?

I still can't believe this would be the treatment that not only the Norway pavilion but Frozen would get. Frozen deserves more than this, and not more M&Gs...an attraction on the scale of Ariel's Undersea Adventure at the least. Something that could be cloned. Remember when everyone else got WDW's clones?

If other resorts get something better for Frozen, and WDW gets stuck with an overlay in WS...

Has it been confirmed yet that Norway will be replaced by Airedale? I was not even aware that it has been confirmed that a Frozen ride is coming. But do we real believe that all of Norway will be replaced by some Frozen land. I just have a hard time believing this and if true I will be as upset as most on here.
