Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

none of it has been confirmed except other insiders had confirmed frozen is planned to take over maelstrom among other changes. that all depends on and on what level, if a new deal was reached between Disney and the Norwegian parties involved whom are there this week for meetings. I have no doubt that if talks fall through that Disney has arendelle take over plans ready to go, whether they would call it that or not I dont know.

Its all true! Maelstrom will close down in the end of september to be turned into a Frozen attraction.
Today I recieved the last piece of confirmation to this... There are no more scheduled arrivals from Norway for the attraction or merchandise division of the pavilion after october. And in the ad posted today by International Services (the recruitment agency Disney hires Cast Members through in Norway), they only offer food and beverage positions, no merchandise or attraction, so most attraction Cast Members will most likely be transferred to merchandise or food and beverage. Its a sad day for everyone who hoped Disney would take use of their brains and not destroy the culture of a country and replace it with a cartoonride. Everyone agrees that Maelstrom needs attention, but why not fix what they had for over 25 years and still brought 10.000 Guests every day instead of letting it rot apart!?

My only hope is that Disney will do a good job integrating Norway into the new Frozen attraction and not completly destroy the Norway culture. I hope everyone who cares sends mails and letters to Disney demanding no more destruction of Epcot and its purpose... Cause I have to admit it kinda looks bad. Well, atleast now people wont complain about the old movie, cause it wont be a movie.

Oh well :( At least I will be able to get in a few rides before it closes (I have a trip in 2 days and then another trip in the begining of October..).. I just really wish they didn't touch maelstrom or they just updated it a little and cleaned it up. ;A;

Last weeks meetings apparently fell through and they werent able to reach an agreement. So the confusion though is are they taking out Norway and replacing it with Arendelle? or integerating frozen into Norway? Its sounding like a complete removal of Norway.

Boo, wish I could unlike a post @spiritofNorway . Hopefully the merchandise groups can be brought back after the ride is done with the abomination of a re-theming.

Just speculation on my part, but if ride and merch cast is being stopped, but food service is not, it’s possible that Akershus and Kringla will remain untouched with the remainder being converted to Frozen ride, gift shop and M&G. At that point they could probably rationalize leaving the pavilion as Norway with a wide scale invasion by Frozen.

At the same time though, not seeking cast memeber for merch and ride could be due to a long refurb and not related to the final outcome of the pavilion, correct?

Not even three full months? wow cheap its going to be then I dont see how it can't (though its a small ride in terms of size so maybe it just doesnt take long but doesnt give me any hope). question still remains if Frozen will be implemented in a way so its like a tour through Norway? Or ousting Norway just for a movie story retelling.

Didn't @pheneix state the whole pavilion was going to become Arendelle and no long be Norway but that was shot down by 74?

The way I took 74's post way back when was, no Norway (and the parts of the pavilion detailing Norwegian culture) will not be replaced 100% by Arendelle. Frozen, yes, is coming, but not taking over the pavilion, no pavilion name change. Just integrated. Of course, I could be wrong in the interpretation. Only 74 can state what he truly meant.

I have not seen the Frozen display in the Stave Church. But people say it is well done. The display showcased the parts of the film which were inspired by Norway and Norwegian culture. For all we know, the ride will do the same, just now the characters of Frozen will narrate the ride, and of course, have their AA's through out the ride.

If they do a complete retelling of the movie in the ride, with nothing that details or showcases Norway or the Norwegian culture, then obviously it doesn't matter who they hire. The Norway Pavilion will cease to exist as we know it, and as it should be. Instead, MK 2.0 make over continues.

I do want to state how much I hate this idea though. I still don't feel Frozen belongs in Norway or World Showcase or in Epcot in general.

I would wager a large sum of money that when this is made official (likely after it is too late to stop) the Orlando media will report the spin version concentrating on Disney upping the presence of its increasingly popular Frozen brand in the parks. They are meeting the demand of their guests by updating an outdated ride and bringing in what the public wants.

As usual, the true impact will be recognized only by us few enthusiasts who know what we have lost.
