Oh by the way, I am really wondering because of Elsa's popularity if they will get rid of the Anna FC like they did with Flynn/Euegene's Fc..

If both sisters get inducted into the Disney Princess line-up, then that's doubtful. As far as WDW goes, every official Princess has a meet & greet somewhere in the parks.

So what exactly is the "inside information" some people are alluding to in regards to imminent announcements? Apart from the planned meetings in the next few weeks and the supposed September closing date, what are the "options"? The lack of news is really chewing away at me!

Basically to put it simply is that it comes down to whether or not new potential support comes through. And whether involved parties (Disney one of them of course) can reach an agreement, its the last chance effort of saving Norway as such.

So are we to understand that Disney is "threatening" the state of Norway with a dim-witted Frozen overlay of the pavilion meant to depict their home and culture? Blackmailing them with lackluster imagineering in the hopes of using someone else's dime to update a long-neglected attraction that should have been renovated years ago?

"Give us money to refurbish this pavilion or we'll destroy it like we're destroying the rest of our theme park. No, really, we're serious."

Is that it? Surely this is below even TDO, right?

I imagine the conversation with the Norwegian Government went something like this...

Not trying to give them a pa ss for Mexico. I just think its degrees of a similar problem. I think Maelstrom would be a much more egregious violation of the theme and a much larger disruption to the pavilion in general. I feel Mexico, while both poorly conceived and executed, can be ignored without completely bypassing the Mexico Pavilion's better options for cultural enjoyment.

Or maybe its just those Le Cava margaritas that keep me from noticing as much...

Ok, take back everything I said. If they can figure out a way to supply massive amounts of tequila in Norway (or Frozenland or whatever they decide to call it) maybe it won't be so bad. The future of World Showcase is drink until you don't notice how far its fallen. Every pavilion looks good through 180 proof glasses.
But they are both disruptive and take away from the actual location of Mexico. As you mentioned the 3 caballero's have the blessing of being tucked away in the back which frozen does not. But even so it's a property that shouldn't be placed there we can't say one is more culturally intrusive when they both are! I actually hope that Pixar's Dia de los muerto's film accurately showcases the holiday and tradition as well as highlight the country without the dated stereotypes that panchito sadly displayed. As if that film really features mexico's traditions and culture I would be much happier with it taking over the 3 caballeros. So long as it does a better job than what the caballero's are doing now.

I can appreciate characters serving as ambassadors of a World Showcase pavilion, but not as headliners.

I would welcome a culturally-sensitive and and appropriate narration by Anna, Elsa and/or Olaf with a brief appearance.

Circle of Life, at The Land, nicely demonstrates the ability to successfully blend education and entertainment. It can be done. Someone just needs to take the initiative to artfully craft a fitting message.

I dont think its quite as harsh as that and threatening may be too strong a word. Guess it depends on how one looks at it. But yes unless the new support comes through, Disney will do whatever they want with the pavilion. As we all pretty much know now a new offer was made to the Norwegian government that they turned down recently. This new possibility of funding would not involve or come from the Norwegian government, unless something has changed Im not aware of but as of the last couple weeks it had not.

The more I think about this whole Frozen-Maelstrom-Norway Pavilion situation the more I question this and similar threads.

Cars, which earned a worldwide gross of $461,983,149, received an entire land at Disney California Adventure. There is not one or two attractions. Instead, there are three attractions and three quick-service dining locations. Moreover, Disney invested heavily in the construction of Cadillac Range for a truly immersive experience.

Frozen earned a worldwide gross of $1,273,738,009. Why on earth would Disney's highest grossing animated film find a home in the Norway Pavilion and, specifically, Maelstrom. Where is the North Mountain? Where is Oaken's Trading Post? Mater gets a junkyard jamboree while Olaf gets nothing? This makes absolutely no sense at all.

Anna and Elsa have enjoyed 5 hour wait times; fan frenzy resulted in a change in rope drop procedure. Frozen Fun Summer premium tickets sold out within days of their announcement. I am no insider, but a Frozen Maelstrom would seem to be a temporary overlay until something larger is rolled out.

This post is absolutely perfect until the last sentence. If Disney goes through with this, and all signs point to yes, it will most likely be the only Frozen presence we get (in WDW at least). This ride will no doubt be successful and Disney will feel it was a job well done and not feel the need to do more, especially when this ride would cost a lot less than a new ride would have.

Of course they won't do that. Just look at the Seas with Nemo. The ride's a lazy copypasta sequel with the educational content and stuff involving education with the characters is limited to a couple of videos near some of the exhibits that people will easily ignore like the Mr. Ray manatee video or Crush telling us about the turtle doors in lobster cages.
If there's any educational element in a newer character overlay, it's pushed to the side.

Cars Land had two things going for it, 1) Disney paid $7 billion to get John Lasseter back by purchasing Pixar and 2) pressure from the City to invest in the Resort. Nobody with political clout is tied into Frozen to demand more. The tossed together offering for the summer show that people will pay for the name without regards to substance.

And what do you think would happen if TDO decided to roll out something larger? Even if they decided to put a bigger Frozen attraction elsewhere (which I think is highly unlikely if the ride is popular), I can't see them deciding to spend even more money on making the newly Frozen Maelstrom into yet another attraction, and TDO doesn't exactly have a running history of reviving former versions of rides. As I see it, if the Frozen overlay happens, Frozen's presence at Norway will be pretty much cemented, as is the end of the Maelstrom ride as a character-free opportunity to learn about Norwegian culture.

Agreed, Caballeros is not very representative of actual Mexican culture and could even be seen as offensive just as El Rio was before it. But that wasn't really where I was going with my comment. I was making more of a statement on picking your battles. Norway becoming a fictional land threatens the theme of WS as a whole. The others only corrupt their individual pavilions. At this point (to go into full on hyperbole mode) I think the battle for World Showcase's soul is more pressing than the battle for the soul of of any individual pavilion.

The battle was lost the minute El rio was given way to cartoon characters that didn't represent the culture of the country. Now it's just about how much can we salvage.
