Frozen ride replacing Maelstrom?

Heading for the great escape.
A Frozen dark ride in Animation Courtyard in DHS would be a great way to bring life to that area of the park and show off a popular Disney animation film.

But that's too easy. Instead, Disney would rather attempt to shoehorn Frozen into a cultural pavilion in Epcot, and create a story that relates Norway to a Disney animated film based on a Danish fairy-tale.

Yes but all them Scandanavian places and people look alike. apart from Legoland, obviously.

Yeah, this it totally ridiculous. Turning Norway into Arendelle would be like turning Cinderella's Castle into a giant birthday cake, or blocking the view of the Chinese Theater with a giant Sorcerer Mickey hat. Never going to happen.
That's right, you win. They are actually going to retheme all of the pavilians. Each pavilian will get its own movie renaming. China is going away and will become 'Mulan'. AA will become Pocahontas. France will be a fight between Belle and the rat. et al.

Here's another theory. None of that is going to happen. Norway might end up with a Frozen-themed ride.

BTW, a better comparison would be to the carpet ride in Adventureland. They added an Alladin-themed ride. They didn't rename the land 'Agrabah'.

You are ignoring that both Disney and Norway (the actual country of Norway) believe that there is sufficient connection between Frozen and Norway.

I think that people also ignore the fact that Norway wasn't too happy with the trolly Maelstrom when it was introduced.

For those just joining the conversation, here's a summary- according to anonymous sources, there are unverified claims that Disney might add cartoon characters to a theme park to drive attendance, and people are losing their frigging minds about the possible thing that might happen or not in the next few years.

Not that good of a summary to be honest. The reason why people are losing their minds was at the possibility of World Showcase (an area of Epcot that for the most part has remained culturally significant and sophisticated) being tarnished by removing a country and replacing it with an animated land.

Anyone who has been to World Showcase would lose their mind at the thought of this, regardless of how popular the film is.

The reason I'm not losing my mind (yet) is because nothing is confirmed, and the country being replaced is the most extreme case. People can believe what they want, but I never hold onto the most extreme case, especially if it's a rumor. The addition of Frozen while still remaining true to Scandinavian culture, is less of an offense to me since it has been done throughout World Showcase and is not going to make things any worse while giving Frozen more of a foundation in the parks.

Im aware there is no such thing as bad publicity, allegedly.

I would like to have been a fly on the wall when Disney executives and imagineers were scouting World Showcase for these plans, standing by the United Kingdom Pavilion looking across the lagoon and saying "Yep Arendelle castle would look good over there in between Mexico and China"

That's just scary.

Are you kidding? No Disney executive would be caught dead in Epcot, it's a filthy dump.

Except for me and the other posters who have commented and either don't care or think it's actually not a bad idea. Or have we somehow not actually been to World Showcase?

I have seen no evidence that Norway will be re-themed but I don't believe for a second that it couldn't happen. Frozen has turned into a massive hit and I am sure management is seeing dollar signs. Those dollar signs might overcome and good judgement that they might have and they may see this an easy way to cash in on Frozen's success.

I don't care about if the entire pavilion changes into Arendelle or not. The simple fact of Maelstrom (possibly) being removed for Frozen is what bothers me. First, I've loved that ride since I was a kid. Second, the ride building is way too small to do Frozen any justice. It deserves SOOOOOO much more.

I should not have been drinking when I came upon your post...now I'm cleaning water off my screen...thanks for the laugh!

:D

ETA: when @WDW1974 chimed in and mentioned the confirmation of Frozen coming to Epcot, I wondered if perhaps they might have considered putting it in Imagination...those pyramids would have been fun to work with for the ice palace. Not saying that Frozen belongs there, but I'm not sure I'm thrilled with it in WS anywhere. But, it's just my opinion.

So true! It's not that I'm against Frozen ride (it's a monster hit & Disney could do an awesome immersive job) but I am opposed to a logistical nightmare of a ride squeezed into the Norwegian pavilion as well as a classic if dated ride that I really love being replaced!!!

How is it not a bad idea?

First off, I'm not going to answer a question framed like that. Second, I don't think I'll convince anyone here, as they've already made up their minds. I've made my points about this in both this thread way back and others.

If people want to wring their hands and complain about something we don't even know for sure is coming yet, they're free to do so. I just think all the outrage being shown here is both hyperbolic and premature.
