well you'll have no problem finding retail outlets near chatham square - btw it's lovely chatham square, i was living in the commons, just a little walk down, but the square is lovely and quiet, spacious roads and a lovely quiet secluded swimming pool and classroom. patterson court is now next to it. and the buses that go to work and all other parks are available right outside along with buses to walmart, which is the one in kissimmee area and publix which is only a haf hr or not even ,walk from the square and is easily done. but tell her it's better to walk with someone as walking from chatham square along that road to publix is secluded and has a lot of traffic. you also have the outlet malls as a neighbour :) great prices and great shops! :D hope that helps. so don't worry. if you're intending on shopping the first day, which might be a rush, i know it was horrible my first day there, i was tired and separated from my friends and knew no one :( but sorry, if you're shopping first day that's great. if not bring sleeping bag :) and pillow - there's nothing on the beds at all, unless a previous cast member left theirs as i did :)

Tell her i wish her well and good luck, and if things start going wrong or if she's finding her stay and work hard and difficult, just stick with it and she'll feel great at the end having accomplished it al :) i know i am. the work is tough, as you would know from disney and the heat is powering. she'll have no problem finding friends either :)

Actually .. (getting back on topic) I DO have a question about the college program .. my daughter is set to start Jan 7 (Woo-Hoo!) and is planning on living in the Chatham Square housing complex. Because we are flying across the country, we were hoping to purchase linens, toiletries and towels somewhere near there. Are there any retail stores close to the housing complex?

Yes. There is a shopping center near Chatham. And she also can take the bus over to Walmart as well.

MouseCrazy, the shopping place near Chatham are outlet stores if memory serves me correct. Wal-Mart, down on 535, would be the best bet for stuff that your daughter needs.

Good luck!

I can't read the posts either Jane... sorry. It does help to break up your paragraph so your posts are easier to read...

right now you just keep talking in one long incredibly unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic so that no one has the chance to interrupt, they're really quite hypnotic...

:king: I hope someone gets the Picard connection there...

oops sorry bout that!

i'll try better

It's ok... breaking up your post just makes it easier to follow along... especially when they're long!

and also using the "quote" button when responding to someone directly. It takes a bit to get used to the style that people like to see on here. Sometimes short and simple is the easiest way.

and for some reason there are always some star trek jokes somewhere in the thread... that's why I tossed mine in earlier! :lookaroun

Hi Jane, and welcome. Say the last 2 times we went to the Rose & Crowne, the service was very slow, especially by Disney Standards. Once the waitress came over, everything was fine, but each time it took more than 20 minutes to be visited by a waiter or waitress after we had sat down. And this was around 2 p.m., in November. So it was not an overly busy time. Any ideas on the slows?

By the way, feel free to write any way you want, but you might get better and more numerous responses if you try to spell things correctly, use capital letters, slip in correct punctuation, etc . . . Yes, this thread is informal and there are no standards in this regard, but trying to effectively communicate with the readers is not helped by such shortcuts. Telling a story or making a point in an unclear way simply frustrates everyone, including you by limiting the people who will respond. Also, Disney looks great on the resume', but potential employers may actually find this thread and think less of you for these shortcuts.

Anyway, thanks for your input.

Hey Jane! Welcome to the fabulous (heck yeah!) friendly (mostly) and (most of all) fun world of WDW Magic! Unfortunately, you've hit a rough time here on the forums. Some of the more cantankerous members of the board are getting madder and almost everybody is on eggshells! Why, you might ask? Well, given the economic turndown plus the serious lack of new planned rides (we speculate), we're just a bit nasty. Don't worry about the abbreviations. You'll get them soon! And if anyone tries to flame you for asking, plenty of people here will back you up. Here are a few things that you need to know here:

* There are plenty of "jokesters" on these forums, like Epcot Explorer and many more. They'll make your stay very enjoyable.
* Admins here are very light handed, but don't do anything to anger them.
*If you see a rumor thread here that's attended by people like Lee and Marni, (others that you will find shortly) that are treated like they're the 2nd coming of Jesus, you'll know that they have some sort of inside info. Check these forums often...
* NEVER make a comment in a forum related to Stitch!!! In these discussions, there will be blood!

We're really good at starting flame wars, so if you don't really like those things, I suggest you don't post on some of the forums. Do what I do... read and laugh! Anyways, here we're like a family... a strange, dysfunctional family, but we're still good (kinda quoting Lilo & Stitch). So good luck and welcome!

I experienced the same sort of problem in February of '07. I went in to inquire about being seated for a late lunch or early dinner. I stood at the bar and politely waited for the wait staff to finish their conversation. After a few minutes I tried getting their attention but nobody would even look at me. It was odd. It was 3 pm and there were only 4 customers in the whole place. Anyway, I decided to leave, we ate elsewhere. That is the worst treatment that I have experienced in WDW. I won't go back to the Rose and Crown. There are plenty of other places to go in WDW. ;)

BTW, welcome to the boards.

I truly am a former cast member, but having left in july, nothing new had happened, altho i still don't know what next year's special celebration will be, as last 2 years has been year of a million dreams. I loved the dream makers - those in light blue shirts. used to play cards with them in the street and beg disney stickers off them lol was fun. Then if it rained, we were drenched cus we work outside always, running to get podium covers and then goin to hell with it and goin out in the street singing frank sinatra lol or hopping through epcot on the way to work. I hated the ecvs lol get run down on them all the time. then having to cover prams and electric ecvs lol with plastic trash bags lol memorys/ and our costumes were see thru wen it rained too lol. and the lagoon - seven seas lagoon is full of yucky water, beer is poured in there but sssh lol and our appartment complexs in lake buena vista, tradition was on ur last day of work for disney, through ur work shoes, which smelt btw lol, into the lake there at the commons. u cnt get in those residences tho, security is v tight.

yeh wel, we had our own cast member only taxi services, Kojak and Orlando who took us nywer we wanted to for less price than normal cabs. then we had american coach busses that took us to work, publix, vista credit union and post office and walmart and stuff.

tell u what tho, i'll post a pic of my name tag and my official disney trainer pin, then u'll know i'm a former cast member of Mickey

Jane1 don't go out of your way to please the skeptics, they are on every forum and arent happy unless they can create some controversy.....I'm sure you heard that miserey loves company, theres plenty of that on any of the different Disney Discussion boards. I for one am glad you enjoyed your time there, we were quite friendly with the 2 Irish Chris's, Linda, Sarah and especially Carl. We are in WDW now until the 8th of December.:sohappy:

I have to agree with Disneyson 1, the forums have gotten kinda rough. If you look at the News and Rumor section, there isn't much going on there these days. I have a few troubles myself among other members...like when I posted a topic on the Tropical Storm Hanna going to hit Florida...I got accuse of being a weatherman... :dazzle: ...another being about a theory on the Space Mountain refurbishment...That turn into a war against Wikipedia >.< This is the reason why I became mostly a shadow to these forums, because of the intense flaming that has occur on serious topics, some to the point of actually locking the topic altogether.

I'm really sorry for the rough welcome here Jane1, but like Disneyson 1 said, there are people here that will back you up. Don't worry about the flamers here, they won't do much harm. Just be yourself thats all, there isn't anything wrong typing in text type style. Just enjoy your stay here, and have fun! ^_^

And finally, Welcome to the Forums Jane1 !

Hey Jane,
I worked in future world in AOD, Club Cool, and pin central from jan 2007 to feb. 08. I only left because I couldn't afford the rent and gas to actually stay there. I miss Epcot so much and I believe you! Trust me guys, we who work on stage really really hardly ever know any secrets or projects going on at the moment. :animwink:
