HEY LEE- thanks for all the info so far, but i have yet another quetion for ya, do you actually know anything concerning the story line??? and also about how much of the attraction takes place indoors (hopefully including numerous showscenes)

IMO- i think this ride could probably be compared to splash mountain; a very elaboratly themed story unfolds before you, all building you up for the big, fast drop at the end...
or in this case, perhaps a big fast drop followed by several helixes and etc. (maybe a chase scene!?!?)

Intercot is in the ballpark.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!! I leave for a cruise last week and I come back to this news. All I have to say is that this picked up my spirits after becoming 'vacation sick' as soon as I arrived in LaGuardia. I knew this project was going to happen, although I didn't want to keep my hopes high. Thanks Lee for all the info, Thank you Michael Eisner for all the info (:D), and thank you WDI for coming up with a sure hit attraction! Heh, now I know why Corrus was denying it the whole time. ;) Man I can't wait to see some concept art and construction pics.

P.S. - Does anyone want me to write a Non-Disney trip report on Celebrity Cruises (the one I just came back from)?

Just a little update... over at Intercot they have the scoop on the storyline!
"The ride starts outdoors in an abandoned tea plantation where the villagers have all been frightened away by the yeti from the mountain. The trains will be similar to BTMRR. Trains enter the mountain, and travelers are harassed by the yeti. At one point the trains will run backwards. They are looking to open the ride in the summer of 2005. We are hearing construction sounds behind the Jungle Trek.
Hmmm... an abandoned tea plantation?? I like the idea of the villagers being frightened away but why exactly are we boarding this train then?

I really like this idea. Not quite what I posted earlier on what I thought this ride might be (a tourist expedition), but pretty similar.

I'm totally guessing here, but if this story holds, maybe we are just "stupid" tourists ( ) that don't "believe" this legend of the Yeti and we take the train up anyways, only to be totally proved wrong. Sounds cool to me. I probably shouldn't keep "guessing" what it could be until I hear the official announcement. The whole story could be different. However, based on how Lee has been extremely reliable so far, and he agrees with what intercot posted, this story sounds awesome :).

It only made sense

This whole rumored/semi-confirmed attraction at AK only made sense from the beginning. It seems that the animal aspects could be added in the queue line at the beginning and while the coaster is outside of the mountain. Perhaps even the people not riding the ride could enjoy the exhibits. I am however, a bit worried that this will just be another BTMRR or Matterhorn (I hate all the clones) I hope this is original.
Slowly this park became my favorite and with this attraction, AK will become as popular as the other parks. Now my only hope is that they build Beastly Kingdom (but who knows how long I'll have to wait). For now I'll just enjoy the news.:p

Remember, from current rumors at least, this whole ride will be based on Yeti's, which are mythical animals. AK is for all animals, not just those that are currently living and breathing.

However, I too think that having living animal exhibits around the base of this "monster" would be really cool. Does anyone know what type of animals live around the base of the Himalayas (I imagine goats of some kind)?

Also, from the looks of the model, the exterior anyway, it isn't even close to being a clone of BTMRR or the Matterhorn. So hopefully the overall ride experience won't be either :)

I hope that the Yeti isn't the only mythical animal represented at AK, hopefully they'll will add more in the future.

I agree with you 100%. Maybe someday we will finally see Dragons, but until then, I think this attraction will more than satisfy my appetite.

Who says it has to just have the Yeti, anyway? Who knows what the mysterious caverns inside this Everest will hold...this ride has a nice budget, so I am thinking it will be more than just a Biggie Sized Matterhorn sponsored by Wendy's (I can see Harold holding a Frosty...).

Well in sumary....wow! I have always loved Animal Kingdom, it is a wonderful park that has the most intricate theming i have ever seen. Its fair to say that this detailing is largely ignored by some of the people who visit disney. I am so glad they are building the everest thing for many reasons, firstly maybe now more people will actually appreciate what a great park AK is and secondly..doesnt it look just amazing!!!!! This is going to be one hell of a ride. From what ive heard its going to have a huge budget so i think as well as having the thrill factor, i think disney is looking to produce something utterly unique and original. Im so excited at the prospect of watching this project develop and feeling the anticipation growing....can you imagine what its going to be like when it gets around to opening....these boards are going to go crazy....
Im so looking forward to the time when we will be driving towards AK on a hot sunny day and for the first time see the peaks of this mountain rising above AK...yayayayayayay. sorry to get so excited about all of this but in aweek like this its so nice to recieve news that makes you smile.

By the way...you know in the interview when it says "Yuove just made a couple of hundred people on the internet the most hapy theyve ever been" was i the only one to question myself and think......maybe i should get out just a bit more? but then i thougt...nah. i love it really.

Does anyone know what the budget is for this attraction? I'm guessing a major roller coaster company is building the actual ride while WDI is doing the theming.

The attraction is budgeted ain the $120 million range.
Yes, a major coaster company will design and fabricate the track and ride system, who that will be is something I haven't been able to get a consensus on. My money is on Intamin.

Also, here is another picture I just got the OK to post.
Again, its not exactly accurate as to scale and detail, but you get the idea.

Intamin-AG is the company I was thinking of, too--it just seems like their style of coaster--very large, fast, and smooth, yet a company that allows the people paying them to add as much theming as they want...plus, Intamin-AG did a knock-up job on California Screamin'...

I assume this will be the backside of the mountain with only the front of the mountain being visible to the general park? Am I right?

No, I'm pretty sure that is the front. Although the queue and loading area are pretty far away from actual track so perhaps you aren't able to see the track too much and you can only see the upper peaks of the mountain? I dunno. :veryconfu

On other sites the rumor is that this will be an Arrow coaster, is this true and if it is I wonder what the difference will be in the outcome. Is Intamin a better company when it comes to building this kind of coaster? I'm not very familiar with the companies.:brick: I was just wondering. Thanks for all the pics Lee.
