FLE, best land ever?

"They did all of that instead of investing $1.5 billion in D- and E-ticket attractions and/or an expansion somewhere that would really draw people away from WWoHP and actually "raise the bar"?"

The FLE cost 1.5 billions??? Where did the money go? How is that possible when they invested only 1 billion into DCA and created such an amazing addition like Cars Land?

I think the 1.5 is exaggerated for the FLE.

Even after the completion of the FLE the MKs Fantasyland will not feature any E-Tickets. The only FL-E-Ticket was 20.000lutS and they scrapped it without ever building an adequate replacement. I thought SDMT would be that replacement but after I saw the plans and the model in OMD I had to realize it will be great but it will not be an E-ticket ride! TLM will be nice too but actually it's only a replacing of a smaller dark ride they closed down to convert it into another M+G which seem to spread over the parks like theme park cancer. I DON'T consider M+Gs attractions and I was very glad they at least saved us from the original FLE-plans which were a M+G nightmare and the perhaps most underwhelming expansion plans I ever saw. Luckily they changed it but what we get now is still FAR away from being the best land ever! It's actually two D-ticket's and some restaurants and shops. Storybook Circusland doesn't add any completely new attractions and is, IMHO, quite a joke, the tents are a gift shop, M+G and some FP area and the rides are stuff for little kids only. The addition to the number of attractions in the MK that is coming with the FLE is exactly ONE because they scrapped SWSA for SDMT, that's far away from being the best land. Actually it doesn't even come in second or third.

Wow you guys are always negative. It's as if someone presents you a lobster and you complain there's isn't any shrimps on the side.

The OP asked aesthetically if it was the best. I'd probably say yes. That said, it has stiff competition else where in other disney parks. That said, it's no doubt the best land in all of Disney World, and has certainly raised the bar themeing wise.

And the Under The Sea attraction was swapped for another Under The Sea attraction.

Add in the lost Skyway, and FL actually has less attractions after the expansion than it once had before, than when the area of the 'expansion' was used for the 20k E-ticket.

After experiencing it for the first time yesterday in its entirety, my first thought was: "It took 3 years to build this and it's not even 100% done?" Then I scoffed at LeFou's Brew and how terrible it was. Mermaid was cute, definitely not worth more than a 15 minute wait. Enchanted Tales is definitely the gem of this entire expansion. Does it blow HP out of the water like so many fanbois wish it will? Not by a long shot but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

Here are my top 15 "lands", based solely on theming, out of all the Orlando parks:

1. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
2. Sunset Boulevard
3. Mainstreet U.S.A.
4. Port of Entry
5. Africa
6. The Lost Continent (still beautifully detailed, even if it is slowly fading away...)
7. World Showcase
8. Frontierland
9. Asia
10. Hollywood and Hollywood Boulevard (Disney's Hollywood Studios and Universal Studios Florida)
11. Seuss Landing
12. New York/San Francisco (Universal Studios Florida)
13. Jurassic Park
14. Adventureland
15. Fantasyland Expansion... Maybe. I'll judge when everything is completely finished.

*That list was in no particular order.

Some of my least favorites are...

1. Pixar Place
2. World Expo
3. Dinoland U.S.A.
4. Commissary Lane
5. Echo Lake
6. Production Central
7. Camp Minnie-Mickey
8. Fantasyland (the circus/medieval tents and such)
9. Future World (abandoned pavilions and the whole area is slowly losing it's original purpose)

*That list was in no particular order.

Pfft. Not even close to the best land. Right now its essentially just a bunch of pretty rockwork and a C ticket attraction.

You know...gun to my head and forced to choose...I'm gonna say the best Disney park land ever is...

New Orleans Square.

Beautifully themed, Pirates, Mansion, Blue Bayou, Club 33, French Market, the Rivers of America....

Better than FLE.

IMNSHO...
do you have access to Club 33? I'm curious

You know...this could be just the beginning. More attractions could be added to Fantasyland until it's a big sprawling inter-themed masterpiece. Wonderland could be added, as could Neverland, a Villains area, a dark ride based on Epic Mickey...maybe even Oz. The expansion we have now hints at lots of potential. I'm through bellyaching about the shortfalls in the Mermaid ride and "Story Time With Belle's" over-focus on the kiddies. I'd like to think about the possibilities hidden within the concept of the Enchanted Forest. Some truly wonderful things could be invented for it. Here's hoping...

I 'get' where you are coming from but after 14 years of waiting for something more substantial than a new attraction thrown in where one should have been all along, I'm really hoping FLE represents WDI's best work at WDW since DAK.

I'll be there in 3 weeks. Fingers crossed.

This project has eaten so much land I do not at all see how any of what you describe would easily work.

What does that mean? You make no sense.

Apparently he is telling you that you are depressed since that is what Prozac is for... but then he is telling you to break it in half. Since it comes in capsule form, it would work faster because your stomach wouldn't have to break said capsule down. (Sorry, work in medicine). But, as I've observed in your posts, you don't come off as a depressed person. I usually find your posts amusing and insightful as opposed to td1129, whose posts generally give the impression of a person so angry he can't have a proper discussion because of his pixie dust addled brain. So in conclusion, I think you put it aptly when you said "you make no sense"

I think the $1.5 billion figure included the cost of development and execution to date of the NextGen offerings. When that poster was listing things out after the figure they referenced the NextGen changes. For me it was a nice contrast to see how much (or little) WDW did with $1.5 billion vs. what DLR has done with a similar amount. ;)

Where? There is not much space left behind the present FLE and the berm with the WDW Railroad. And most of it is swampland, just watch when you circle the park with the train.
The FLE pretty much uses up all the remaing space that could be used without HUGE and expansive efforts to gain more space.
The remaining expansion areas of the MK are elsewhere, mostly in Adventureland and Tomorrowland. Fantasyland ist done, not much space for anything else.

Actually I can't believe that anything they did in MK now with the FLE and Nextgen (how much do these cost? Not even 50 millions I expect) cost even closely to a billion, not to speak of 1.5 billions. Otherwise it would be really depressing to see what TDO needs 1.5 billion bucks for.

No, really. I know it's like hard to wrap your brain around because I definitely felt the same way but the whole NextGen thing has been the big super secret mega-development thing that Disney has sunk a fortune into (all told I've consistently read its in the neighborhood of $1 billion if I'm remember correctly). They've been working on that alone for several years now. Disney thinks its going to be their next big revolution in the theme park business. It encompasses the FP+ elements, interactive queue elements, app stuff, planning software, etc. I think the RFID stuff you now see being installed all over lumps in, too. Again, thats what I understand the whole NextGen to be but I could be off. ((Had to add the disclaimer so the flamers don't come to get me.)). So if you look at the broad spectrum of what NextGen is its possible the entire thing was a cool billion. The question is was it the wise way to spend a billion when so much property wide needs significant TLC after such prolonged period of neglect. Ya know?
