Do you have a picture of the placemat? If it's what I'm thinking it is, it's cartoon Figment and Dreamfinder (on the Dreamcatcher) with a blue/purple-ish background. Is this it?!? I've been looking for it forever!

This is a great thread. :D

The photos of my Shrine are actually outdated by 2 years - I have *a lot* more that has yet to be added (I'm running out of room). I'm hoping to catalog everything at some point, if only just to know how many items I actually have!

I agree that quality has really gone hill in recent years.

Oh, and I do have that beach towel - it's adorable!

Feel free to share any of it on my blog :)

Yep, that's the one. We also have a Kitchen Kabaret one too I think.
There's a picture of that one on this page...

I have one of the old original "life size" figgy plush. I lost his shirt and one of his wings fell off, but I still love him. *hugs da figgy*

The newer figgy merch just isn't as nice. The old style looked a lot more like figment then just a silly plush.

Hey Merf! I have one of those too! I have had him since my first visit to Epcot in 1983, and bought him for $21 at the old "Centorium" gift shop ( if i am remembering the name correctly..) To this day i have never seen another one of him...even on Ebay. At that time, he was the "expensive" large model and instead of the usual felt eyes has the brittle plastic eyes. His yellow sweatshirt has his name in red letters that were ironed on. He is in great shape, and still has his original paper card tag. I love him! The adventures i had with that little dragon back in the day...

I plan on bringing him to our big EPCOT Event on October 1st. He represents a lot to me, and i thought it would be fitting to have my old doll there as part of the days festivities!

Yeah, i'm a Figment freak too...have been for ages. A lot of my stuff is "original" but i also have some of the newer plush from the late 80's/early 90's and some of the contempory peices put out when JII was rehabbed in 2002. Merf is right though, the "new" stuff just does not have the same "niceness" as the older peices did.

Figment RULES!

Does anyone have one of these cups?

8066_1.JPG

If so, you could make a decent amount on eBay (that one just sold for $20...I couldn't bring myself to bid that much even though I really, really want it).

I'm interested to see what other pictures of Figment are on the cup!

Hi friend!

Yes, i have one of these cups and use it often. I have had it for ages....i ordered it through WDW Mail Order back in 85' when they were sending me there nice color catalogs ( remember those?)

This cup was one of a four peice set made by Decca in 1982. All were made of unbreakable plastic, and were designed to be used by children. The set contained a sectional plate, a tumbler, this mug, and a cereal bowl. I have 3 of the 4 peices ( never bothered with the sectional plate..a bit old for that..lol!)

The designs were wonderful, as you can see in the above blurry pic. All the images featured on this set were of Figment performing the various "roles" he played at the finale of the original JII.

These include Superhero Fig
Weightlifter Fig
Pirate Fig
Cowboy Fig
Spaceman Fig
Sailor Fig
Mountian climber Fig

The mug has Mountain Climber, Pirate, Weightlifter, and Salior. The tumbler has Spaceman, Cowboy, and Weightlifter ( repeat). Cereal Bowl has all except Cowboy if i am remembering correctly...as did the plate.

Hope this helps!

Yup, you exactly described what my Figment looked like before he was owned by me ;) Hard eyes, yellow shirt i lost, all of it :)

He was on a display that had figgy's in his size and smaller in rings sort of around a really really big Figment. Like, as tall as i was at the time - not the smaller 'life size' one i purchase. My mom says i ran up to the giant one and hugged it and she thought it was so cute she almost dropped the roughly $300 it cost because i was so adorable. In the end, i actually chose a smaller figment - apparently telling people that it was a 'real figment' and not a fake stuffed toy like the bigger one.

All i really remember is that it was as big as me and felt 'hard' like those cheap stuffed animals from fairs and circuses. Not a squishy figgy.

Do you by chance have any pictures of this, or of any other items in your collection? I am very curious to see what others have!

I have Figment Big Fig- but love him and do not want to part with him. I also have a series of oversized pins. There are six of them. They are Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pluto and Daisy looking for Figment. Figment is behind each of the Fab 6 in each pin. Example: Mickey & Figment, Minnie and Figment. They are great. If you would like to purchase those to add to your collection. I'd sell those to you.

My "Ye Olde Figment" for your viewing pleasure..

oldfiggy4.jpg

I warn you, he's missing a wing and his shirt.

oldfiggy3.jpg

But he's still sooooo cute!

oldfiggy2.jpg

I should have put something in for scale, but he's roughly the size of a "real" figment.

oldfiggy1.jpg

And for those of us who thought the whole "two coast tags" were a new thing.. I just happened to notice this (excuse the blurry, hard to hold figgy, hold his curled tag out, and photograph all at the same time).

Merf, I have that same Figment. I thought you were talking about a slightly older one. The 'model' you have is by far the nicest quality Figment ever produced.

It stands about 18" tall and normally has his standard yellow shirt with black "Figment" text and red trim.

The only thing inferior about this Figment to any other figment is that the 18" version had ironed on "Figment" lettering, whereas the 11" version has embroidered "Figment" lettering.

I will post some pictures of my small, albeit growing, collection when I get a chance in the next couple days.

I'm holding my head in shame because I have not had a chance yet to update my Figment Shrine. I'm looking into creating a whole new website but it's taking me longer than I thought. :(

Finally got a chance to photograph my fledgling collection last night. Here are the pictures

cimg1069xs3.jpg

It may be difficult to tell, but the item by the Big Fig is a thimble, and the two items by the picture frame are keychains.

cimg1068ht6.jpg

My figgy towel (the inspiration for this thread--guess you can tell that I found one!) along with my 18" plush, my very first figment plush (my parents didn't love me enough to get the 18" one, I guess :( ) and my newly acquired Figment lanyard (I just hope I don't get sucked into the Disney pin craze now).

cimg0961mo0.jpg

My Figment shirts... well, the top left is mine; the other two are shirts I've purchased for my girlfriend.

Hopefully I'll be adding plenty more items in the coming months to this collection. I'll keep you all updated (even if you don't actually care) with pictures here as I take them!

Hey Merf, nice pics! Yes, i have this Figment plush too...but this is not the one i was talking about that was my "first". It is much older. The Fig in the pix above is the version made in the late 80's as i have him as well. I bought him out of the WDW Mail Order catalog back then when he was brand new and still have him in mint condition with tags. This plush is a gem though as it is indeed the best plush version of him made to date, and was life size. It was also the FIRST plush of Fig to have his mouth open. All the plush versions up to that time had his mouth closed.

Someone posted a pic of the doll i have...let me go find it!

Okay, so here is a photo from a website that shows what my original plush Figment looks like. The only thing that is not matching is the eyes...this version seems to have the common felt eyes glued on and not the brittle hard plastic ones the original large versions came with. Perhaps this is one that has had his original eyes covered over since they broke? Maybe this doll in the photo is a version made after the one i have, to elimnate the poorly made plastic eyes? There must be a good reason why i have never seen a doll quite like the version i have. Maybe some day i will learn what the story is...my guess is the first large Fig had the plastic eyes, and once it was discovered by Guests how poorly they held up, Disney withdrew the option and released all additonal large dolls with the felt eyes, this now matching all the small versions that have always had felt. Hmmm...maybe that is why. Shoot i could have a real rarity here!

I bought mine in July of 83' and it is one of the first stuffed versions of Figment that was made. He has a real "homemade" feel to him. He is made out of a smooth but slightly fuzzy polyester material, with a sweatshirt made out of actual thin sweatshirt material. His name is in rounded red text ( see photo above) and his back scales are made of orange felt. His eyes however are oval shaped ( think Bugs Bunny) instead of round and are made of a very cheap, thin plastic. Mine has managed to survive all these years but i was one who took care of my toys as a kid. I can only guess that if roughly treated as plush usually was by young children the eyes must have easily broken off. As mentioned earlier, i have yet to have seen another "plastic eyes" original version to date. Not even the photo above gets the honor, as the eyes don't match my version! The quest goes on....lol!

I see a lot of the older ones on eBay claiming to be "originals from 82'". Most of them however are usually the newer versions of the original old pattern ( seated, mouth closed, felt eyes). It is rare to find one that is the real deal. Here are some tips for hunting down a "true" original Figment plush: You can tell the difference mainly by the fabric color: The first versions/earliest versions ( 83' to 84') are made of PASTEL colored fabrics. The later versions ( 85' and on) all seem to be made of more SOLID bright colors. I'm not an expert or anything...just pointing out some observations i have noted. By the mid to late 80's Figment plushes were being made out of standard furry plush material...and incorporated a new doll pattern ( seated, mouth open) which is still being used to this day for the current Figment plushes in the Park.

Anyway, back to my old plush....He was a decent size for that time ( 15 to 16 inches not including horns) and if a remember right cost the heafty sum of $21.00 in 83'. He was considered the "deluxe" model since he was the largest version, and had the plastic eyes instead of felt. He was stuffed with that horrible combination of spongey foam peices ( think of cut up bits of sponges..not styrofoam pellets like Fair prize animals) and fabric entrails. This was a common practice back then to fill stuffed toys with. Over time the foam breaks down and turns to dust...so after 20+ years i had to finally open him up and restuff him. I hated to do it...( he was now no longer "original!") but he was turning orange from the rotting foam inside and could no longer hold his head up. He looks as good as new now.....and you would never know any different.

If i was able to post photos of him, i would ...but i do not have a digital camera or the means to do so. I have never had any luck at ALL posting photos in forums that are mine own. Sorry guys....you will just have to wait until the EPCOT 25 Event to see him in person! I am definately bringing him for the day!

People on eBay put the "original" thing in their auctions either because they want to intentionally mislead people, or because they don't know when it actually came out, and they see the 'copyright 1982' on the tag, and assume it came out when the park opened. This is not the case. The concept of Figment has a copyright of 1982, not each specific piece of merchandise.

As for the doll, I look forward to seeing pictures of yours. My only question--does his shirt say "Figment" on it? If so, you truly have a rarity. Few plushes from that period (I can't say I've ever seen one), have the Figment text across his chest and the plastic eyes. Get someone to take a picture of it while you're at Epcot on the 1st and have them post it! I'm really curious to see it!
