I like how the Lion King show is now looked down on a bit because it wasnt "improved" when it was simply fine before (and I'm all for the improvements, mind you). And we don't know that they haven't (maybe we do, I can't remember every post in this thread). Even though they likely haven't. We know how cheap they are, which boggles my mind considering they're asking me to pay more for theme parks that have less than they did when I was PAYING less. Just saying ... but that's a separate rant :)

And the building looks fantastic. PLEASE cover the hvac unit though!
to be honest, the new castle and areas surrounding the theatre are amazing so far!
so that counts as "improvement"

^ It looks pretty heavily-influenced by the Portuguese colonial fortress of Mombasa, Kenya:

I didn't get the memo... why are we calling this "the new castle"?

No kidding, have no idea how that one began or why.

Randy explained it very well...
Also I had posted a link to some images of castles of Africa.. some of them have a very similar structure and design.

Imho the current building looks more of a classic MOROCCO castle/fort

I can see the line of thinking, but will wait till it's complete before I liken it to a castle or fort. I think the pics we've seen thus far may be misleading. It looks downright colossal in some pics. Though it is large, I don't think it's as massive as some of the juxtapositioning (not a real word) in the construction shots make it seem.

Many of the long-distance shots are very zoomed in. Using a telephoto lens tends to flatten the image and kill any depth-perception in the photo. I think the better judge would be to look at the pic showing the Dawa Bar with this fort (I think it should be referred to as a "fort" rather than a "castle") behind it. The part you can see over the top I think is just the tallest section, over the center of the theater.

It's a very interesting part of the world (coastal Kenya) to recreate because of the confluence of styles (e.g. native Swahili, Islamic architecture spreading from the north and east and then the European colonizers of the 1600-1800s). The unique turrets on the new Fort-Theater (with the cylinders at the top) are without-a-doubt inspired by the Portuguese fort in the pics I linked.

I love the original Harambe as a theme park environment, and from the ground, what I'm seeing here in many ways is surpassing my expectations. I just really hope the various sightline issues (cell tower, HVAC, etc.) are addressed. Fingers crossed.

The inside looks about the same as before, just a little bigger.

But, the good news is, it looks to be complete and might hopefully be open by the time I get there on 5/18!

The good news about the inside appearing the same, yet bigger, is that it leads me to believe they won't do something foolish like change the show. At all, aside from possibly more room for wire work. My greatest fear in this move would be some revamping of the show itself, which would be tragic.

Darn, I was hoping they would install more comfy seats. The benches are so uncomfortable. I know it's all for increased capacity though.

Still, this is a company that encourages dreaming...

I am looking forward to the show returning, it has been missed.
