Festival of Fantasy Parade coming to Magic Kingdom in 2014

One thing I noticed is that the characters themselves didn't really get any newly designed costumes, except for the classic characters at the very end, and a few others.
But most seem to be wearing their typical 'meet & greet/walk-around' standard outfits.
Usually the Princesses get newly designed dresses ... as well as other characters get, at the very least, a custom overlay to the standard outfit, or some sort of added embellishment (new fabrics, crystals, etc.). If you're not sure what I'm talking about, look up the costumes to say, DL's Parade of Dreams, or any TDL, HKDL, or DL parade really... as the characters, esp. the Princesses (at the very least), usually get newly designed custom outfits for that specific parade. I'm not seeing that so much here...

I keep watching and watching wanting to love it and I just don't. I think the other thing that hit me is that it seems a little under populated by dancers. They mostly introduce (in front) the unit instead of surrounding it. I guess it is better to have realistic casting at the beginning though instead of having double the cast only to cut it down soon. Maybe its better to debut with more of an eye to "what we can afford to run in the long run" instead of blowing us away (like with 6 dancing couples instead of 3) only to hear the complaints in 6-9 months about how much has been cut. Its pretty lean casting to create spectacle right now. Not too much that can really be trimmed down as there doesn't seem to be a lot of "fluff"

with theming, the vibe I'm getting is medieval fayre celebrated by all different stories (sound familiar? coughfantasylandcough) with a new and modern twist coughexpansioncough . simple as that, yet clever. doesn't need a huge visual theme to make it too easy to understand. The intro announcement is SO exciting, but maybe that's because i'm hearing my accent and NOT by an american actor doing my accent badly ;)

I've noticed that parts of the soundtrack are from Soundsational and Happiness is Here.

Something else that bugs me is the lack of parade specific costumes for the characters, most of them are just wearing their meet and greet outfits.

In one video, from before the parade, I heard Flights of Fantasy showstop audio playing. Funny how someone said its similar to the main motif in FOF :D

God bless the "Ignore" button.
And the crazy amount of labor.
There's quite a lot of that, too. Have Disney parades suffered before in cutting back in performers? I mean, it happens during rebrandings, but has it ever happened without changing the name of the parade?

Sleeping Beauty is my favourite Disney animated feature. To finally see "hero" Phillip (instead of in his fashion accessory mode with stupid looking hat) and the great climax represented like this with a fire breathing dragon float and raven/thorn performers is fantastic!

Agree. The best unit in the parade.
That Steampunk Dragon float is absolutely a work of art design-wise.
The movements are great...and the concept seen here to depict a re-enactment of the battle between good and evil is a awesome addition.
I seriously hope that it remains in the parade and is not cut due to parents complaining to GR that it frightened their kids.

The amount of money spent on that unit alone i would think would justify it being permanent, but i could not help but notice that on the released *poster art* for the Parade shown earlier in this thread that the Dragon is not included in the graphics.
Makes it all the easier to remove it if need be...and not have to change the marketing artwork.

I know we are a Disney fan site, but geez, there is so much nitpicking away at this parade on here. I get that us fans expect the best from Disney, and we should. However, I feel like it has gotten to the point that people here aren't even able to accept that TDO can actually get something right. Is it really that hard to like something new in the Orlando parks? A part of me feels like had this opened in say, Hong Kong instead, people would have raved about it, and have found some way to shoot down TDO in the process. Anyway, I just wanted to make sure that people who view this thread/site know that there are some here who absolutely love this parade.

While I like the parade and will see it in May... The music is a jumbled MESS! it switches too much and lacks uniformity and cohesiveness.
After watching it twice (I still think I need to watch it more/live), I can agree with this. I was kind of confused by the music because I'd be looking at one float while hearing the music from another.

Ok so it wasn't just me seeing and hearing the same thing... I was so confused! And I am a Disney Parks Music nut! I can't get enough of the stuff.. but this??? *head spinning*

The parade is nice, but is going to require quite a bit of upkeep which we all know won't happen. A year from now i'm afraid to see what condition the parade will be in. The soundtrack for me was the biggest dissapointment. A collection of recycled material from Soundsational and Happiness is Here ect. The music doesn't seem to flow as well as it should from one unit to another. Overall though Festival of Fantasy is a decent addition to Magic Kingdom entertianment.

You are exactly right, we should look on the bright side. The Magic Kingdom finally after years and years of neglect received a brand new parade. We should commend them on the fine work they did on those floats...oh wait, some of those where from Tokyo....commend them on their soundtrack....wait...parts were lifted from other parades...commend them on their costuming....well except for Dopey/Sneezy, again...Tokyo.

My Point to all this is that we should be pleased Disney did SOMETHING, heck they could have created the "Share a Celebration of the Fantasy Come True Parade: Longer Descriptive Title/B-Mode Yeti" parade (Presented by Magicbands) out of all the old floats and called it a whole new experience. The problem, at least for me is that I'm tired of Disney cutting corners because they can. They are the #2 company with the most in reserves right behind Apple. After seeing what happened to DL BTMM, it's almost an embarrassment to even ride it over here in FL now. This company is capable of great things, that's why I grew to love everything about it, but if they don't get their heads out of their wallets soon they are going to end up like Blockbuster Video and all those other companies who thought "We're not going anywhere..." and let their competition get the better of them. Again, this is just all my humble opinion and your more than welcome to take it with a grain of salt. I'll loan you my shaker;)

I thought it was great. I'll definitely be going out of my way to see it, even fp+ it if needed.
I do agree they need more dancers between the floats because it felt a little empty, clearly Peter Pan was having issues because in one video it seemed that towards the end of main street the cannon effect was only working on one side and the anchor was clearly not swinging. The Pinocchio floats also had some issues because I noticed that the girls were no longer swinging around. But IT'S THE FIRST DAY! We have to give them time to get it together. I was very impressed.
